    I make bags but I cut out a square on each of the bottom pieces to box the corners . Makes it so easy then to sew the corners to box them. You should try making coasters with hexagon pieces. Takes 6 hexagons for the front and 1 for the back. Only need 1 seam all around and one to topstitch after turning. There are tutorials showing how to do it. Very easy and come out beautiful. Loved all your ideas though. Thanks.

      I do my tote bags with 1/2 yard for each side and nylon webbing for the handles. Since you're going to sew the top anyway, I save that part for last. I like my lining tacked to the bottom so it doesn't come apart when you wash it. Pretty sides together for the front of the bag, pretty sides together for the lining. Make your triangles in the front bag. Then sew the lining corners on the opposite side of where your edge is - so you don't have all of the bulk on one side - gets evenly distributed. So you're attached at the corners wrong sides to wrong sides. Now turn the outer bag around the lining. Fold tops in. Insert your handles where you want them. Fold in half to be sure the handles line up, adjust as needed (I pin my handles so only 4 pins to worry about). No need to birth the bag or wonder if the handles might be twisted because you can see them. I use a double needle for the top stitching in a up and down stitch (so not zig zag or you'll break your needles). Then I can do 3 different colors of thread if you want. This way I can line up about 20 bags at a time where all I need to do is the tops of the bags. Then you have 20 gifts rather than just one. Hope that helps.

    Thank you for taking the time and teaching us step by step. Binding has been a little scary for me, but after watching your video I feel brave enough to tackle it. I make up a box that I give our kiddos on Christmas Eve. Something they want, something they need, something to wear and something to read. I’m so making up the book marks, and sleeve to go with their new books. Going to also tuck in the chapstick holder, and a new charging cord and cord keeper. Thanks again, you are an amazing teacher! Great ideas! Are you up for a challenge? Not being a math person & a newer sewer, I can't 'cypher' the measurements for a boxed corner tote using thrifted pillowcases for lining. =) Any pattern suggestions? Thanks!

    • @sewbeitquilts
      @sewbeitquilts  15 дней назад

      You would measure and cut based on how wide you want the bottom of the bag to be. For example if you measure and cut at 1” the boxed area of the bag would be close to 2” (minus seam allowances). So, whatever measurement you choose to cut double it and that would be your end result. Cut at 2” the bag would be boxed at about 4”. There is no specific size you should use, it is really just dependent on how wide you want the bottom of the bag to be.
