@dreamc38 I'd go with bigger diametre, if you a) intend to not use the cameras' zoom function and/or b) might ever move/walk while filming. I like the most blurry background I can get, so I opted for a +3 diopter. +2 is fine though.
In theory, I believe a +2 close up lens will move infinity to 0.5 m away (the far focus point, everything beyond that will be blurry) and a +3 close up lens will move infinity to 0.33 cm. And a +5 lens will move infinity to 20 cm. The higher the diopter, the narrower the usable intervall between near focus point and far focus point. Correct me if you believe I'm wrong about this, thanks.
@@SuperZardo Thanks for detail explanation. I had opt out of this idea, as too much of hassle to get holder & diopter. Instead, my solution is get a longer/ extended selfie stick, this also ensure not to degrade the original Leica lens.
What's the edge-to-edge outside dimension of that UV-filter casing? Why not use a bigger step-up ring which fits to the outside of the casing? For the insta360 ND filters, I found a description stating they are 44 x 44 x 5.1 mm, so that would mean a step-up ring with an inner diameter of 44 mm should fit on the outside, no? Or use a 40.5 mm step up ring (to, for example, 58 mm) and grind away the 4 corners?
It depends, 52mm is fine if you do not put more than one filter on it and/or do not use stabilisation (flow state). 62mm is bigger of course, but if that does not disturb in your use case, it leaves more room for more filters or some camera shake, before the edges of the filter will show up in your film ;)
the original glass from the cheapo square UV cover, is it easily removed? what is the technique? i am have a 39-52 adapter with quick shipping, it will work? do you recommend dremel to the 39mm thread. @@luminodotcity
Easily removed, wear protection for your eyes and hands, press out (back to front), dont cut yourself. Scrape out rest of glue and glass with a flat screwdriver. If you dremel a 39mm, there might not be much inner circumference left to glue onto, but you can estimate this when all parts are in front of you.
That is an excellent question, Sir. But I am afraid a highly subjective one. I believe if you want the best picture quality and stabilization in this form factor AND love sharp close focus (which no action cam has out of the box, cuz, physics), then yes, totally worth it. You can also wait a couple of weeks, as I am sure some brands will come up with a product that has no diy elements to it :-)
@@luminodotcity yeah, i bit the bullet and bought a kit of diopters, and stepup ring to build the thing... Close focus is important to me, in some situations. Keep it up!
Threads being printed as well? If so, it does not compare, because printed threads are not up there yet in smoothness and durability, compared to cut ones in metal. But hey, I am all for more and easy ideas to improve the heck out of small, capable tools!
There will be better solutions, I am pretty sure. Third party brands are seeing the stir this camera makes, and will offer something soon :) Maybe a cage with threads. What filters do you plan on using, and in what situations? I have a 49mm adapterhere I am not using anymore ;)
GoPro-accessories do not work for you? Also, if you go out in direct sun light, a fitting ND filter can really tie the footage together ;) @Cameraflyer
Hi, understand you tested 49mm vs 52mm, if for vlog usage, holding one half arm length, which size more suitable? Adding a +2 close-up filter?

Is the Ace pro really worth all the hassle?

Well done, Sir, for stepping up ;)
I think in combo with a nice ND, sunny vlog shots will look incredibly smooth with this adapter.
Someone is making and selling a 3D printed adapter for the Ace Pro on Etsy. No need for all this work.

@@luminodotcity yes, the etsy adapter has no threads, and in my case, he wont ship to Portugal.

@@luminodotcity I don’t plan on using any filters. I’m still waiting for a reliable way to mount the camera to my helmet.
