FYI guys, some of the viewers has asked where to buy this adapter for diopter lenses, as of now, there's no stores selling it as of yet. I've designed my own using a 43mm +4 diopter lens, I haven't got the lens yet, so I've printed out the prototype. It's the smallest profile lens for this camera and I don't think it will show on the footage even at Sports Video but I'll find out once I get the lens. If it works then that's the one I will use. If you know anyone or can get your hands on a 3D Printer for 15 minutes, I can send you the print ready file, it takes about 10 minutes to print and I can also redesign it for larger lens sizes if you have one kicking around already. So right now I have the adapter for a 43mm and a 72mm lens, the one use in this video was the 72mm which was designed by Make.Art.Now. The 43mm I designed is much smaller and I think looks better.
Hello, I'm currently looking into this issue for my Ace Pro. I found a 52mm adapter for One R on thingiverse. It pretty much fits on the camera but it's not perfect. If you still offer your files, I'm willing to try. I haven't ordered any filters yet, I don't know if 52 will be the best size or not.
I'm so relieved to see someone say honest things. Ive watched so many videos now looking at people saying that this camera is so bad but when I look at the footage they took with it I see something different to what they're saying and its frustrating me. The long and short of it is if you're doing vlogging with the need to have a camera directly in front of your face then you don't want this camera. But if you're taking videos in FPV the footage looks amazing. Im sure with an NDfilter this camera will take some amazing footage. The exposure is fully manually adjustable on this camera which gives it a lot of potential for some crystal clear footage
Let's be honest, if you're micro vlogging, then yah, this camera won't focus as nice as the competitor and it can be remedied with a simple and cheap DIY method. But if this is the only thing the fanboys can pick on then I'll take it hands down, 1 or 2 cons and 10 pros is always a good thing ;) Plus the 'out of focus' is not life threatening issue as these ppl want to call it lol focus distance is 18" to infinity. I find it really funny when GoPro and DJI users will chirp about this very miniscule issue when both of those cameras fail in low light shooting to the point that it's completely unusable but that's ok because people don't apparently use their action cameras when the sun goes down lol But, hey, close focus not great, crappy camera LOL
@@MiyagisRant This camera is going to shine with detail and sharpness like no other action camera in 2024 with the use of exposure settings and nd pl filters. The features and hardware it has is already there. A dedicated cinematic camera will cost a lot more in the end. Its the camera choice for me 🤗
I dont really vlog but when I need to get up close with a subject I haven't run onto problems yet. There's also CLARITY ZOOM if you need to make it bigger. So no problem for me.
I love your take on this! I think the reviewer used a diopter/Close focus filter for DJI action 4 in that review to trash the Ace pro. Thank you for this insight, Sir!
which he called out in the first 20 SECONDS of the review and then demonstrates holding up the diopter close focus filter to the Ace Pro later in the video. he is very clear that it isn't to make one camera look better than another but to demonstrate what proper focus looks like vs. what the Ace Pro's blurry mess is showing. the Ace Pro is unusable if you want to film things within 6 feet of the lens IMHO.
Thank you.. finally someone said it, the others were reviewing it not based on how an action camera should be used. You're so right i also noticed they had most of their faces so close to the camera.
You have made me feel better, I just got my ace pro yesterday and got nervous when I watched a few vids that where talking about the closeup issue. When I’m out metal detecting, I like getting close ups on some of the old coins I find. But I’m sure the ace pro is still better than my old GP8
So far it's been good for me, as for the close up, if you're within 2 feet you will start to see lack of focusing, I would try it out and if it's not what you want then return it, I still have 10 days but this part of the camera is not a dealbreaker for me it maybe for some. The other thing is, if you look at the hike video I did, I zoomed in and it was quite clear.
Your knowledge is very helpful for viewers, a dedicated and professional support for Insta360 Ace Pro. You do provide the information that Insta 360 even doesn't provide.
Never an issue, after I realized the minimum focus distance I just kept that distance for filming and taking photos and just used the zoom-in function for close-up shots.
For some reason, we as consumers get a bias about products. Creators will purpousely find a flaw about a product. Then favour their own product as though their favoured product has no flaws. Or has less flaws than the choosen product. The ace pro does have a a negligible amount of focus issues up close. But if you know it. You can put yourself at a distances where thats not an issue. Regular cameras have that same issue with minimum focusing distance. But for the price, getting a 35 mm distance wide angle lens from leicia with picture taking, usable profiles, for example, lecia natural and leicia vivid, 4k 60. Slowmotion, time lapse and much more. If you had a camera for vlogging with all these features we would be paying much more for all these camera offers.
@@uncleyap69 oh hell, as I've mention in my video since day one of the ace pro problems, this camera is not without flaws, NO camera is. Here's my argument, as a 1st gen action camera class, it has very little flaws compared to 4 or 12 generation competitors, and let's be honest, in some features it exceeds the competitors. It's funny ppl are so hard on new companies with 1st gen devices as opposed to companies that's had more than enough devices over the years to resolve chronic issues or are we so used to those problems that we simply just ignore and sweep them under the carpet hoping no one would notice anymore, let's discuss about the term 'bias' 😉 NO camera is without flaws, I take a device that gives ME a good overall experience with innovative features, don't care what brand it is and right now it's the Ace Pro, A4 is a strong second. GoPro is a joke and looks like 13 is even a bigger joke from what I've seen with other users on here, creators AND none career content creators.Sad, because I was a big fan of them since the first GoPro camera.
Well said. Subbed due to this video alone. Absolutely spot on. I really don’t see issues with the focusing unless you’re basically eating the camera whilst filming. As long as you hold it out in front of you at a normal distance (which everyone should do if vlogging), it looks crystal clear.
We are loving this DETAILED information from someone with ‘old school’ experience. Your videos on this camera is a breath of fresh air. Keep up the good work! 🫶
Facts!! Thank you. Mine is arriving next week. Have no clue about action cameras? After watching that video you were talking about, I got so confused. Now all makes sense to me how you explained it in that sense. 👍Well done!!
It depends on what you're going to do with yours and if you're not tech savvy, this will be a good alternative, turn it on, set the mode and shoot, get home download and send. If you're not a colorist or want to do a lot of post grading, yah I would recommend this. I am but sometimes I just want something that's easy to use, fun and just take good videos. My logic is, everything is returnable, you have two weeks, put it to the test and then decide, so far I'm happy with mine and the way it's performing.
Thanks for the great video - all good points. I’ve have come to the same conclusions. Why do a blog if all you see is a face 1 ft. away and no spatial context? To me, the choice Insta360 & Leica made is definitely (and wisely) deliberate. BTW, I think the non-removable lens cover is also deliberate as it prevents foggying-up that can happen with DJI and GoPro, especially after underwater shots. This is the only action camera that produces useable low-light and zoom footage in my opinion so, along with all of the other unique features, the Ace Pro is the best choice for me. All the best to you, Bob
Yah, I agree, that was mentioned in Jake's review, he said his DJI was fogging up with his prone to removeable lens guards. At least that's a separate piece so if it does break, only that part needs to be replaced. I'm sure we'll see aftermarket replacement kits soon, they have them for the GoPro 8 which is even harder to repair if broken as it's part of the frame.
I am dropping a video at noon of me using the Ace Pro doing kayak fishing only issue was I accidentally turned off stabilization 😮 but I thought the image quality was really good 👍
Well spoken, I was torn after being a long term GoPro user since the first release Hero 1 silver. Although I have nothing bad to say about GoPro, I can tell you everything I have wanted from their cameras have still not been resolved on their hero 12black. Number 1 for me is better lowlight. 2.) A bigger screen 3.) faster startup, and push of button capture times. This all found on the Ace pro. I just purchased the Ace pro today and did not even notice the short distance clarity. I would go as far as not even considering it a flaw, issue or problem seeing how this can easily be improved with a firmware update with (Autofocus) or external close up filters.. I agree with you 💯 the negative feedback for the Ace pro is an attempt to keep the GoPro in the number 1 spot for best action cameras, however the truth of the matter is they have some really good competition. So far I am really enjoying the Ace pro, and only time will tell if I will ditch the GoPro ecosystem or simply add to it with the Ace Pro.
I just got my camera yesterday , Wednesday 12/13/2023. I took it out tonight Thursday, 12/14 and the problem I have with it is it suck ion low light and I have it set to pure video mode. Another issue I have with it is the magnetic mount. The camera came off the magnetic mount while filming it it fell to my floor board in my car. I;ve bought many of cameras, including the 5DMK3m C100, EOS R, EOS R8, XC10 and I don't expect this camera to outshine those in low light, however if I try to slightly lighten the image in Resolve, the image falls apart. I will be sending this thing back and not listen to the RUclips reviews that receive products for free.
Sorry if you're having issues and yes, in low light you have to set it to PureVideo mode for optimal low light recording, you also have to set the low light stabilizer. this is explained in several videos. I have yet to have any issues with magnetic mount, this is also covered as to how to "properly" engage the lock, it's also in the manual. I have shot multiple low light footage and has had amazing results, not sure what problems you're having. Please remember this is an "actioncam" not an DSLR. The GoPro doesn't even compare in low light and the DJI is better in low light but you still have to activate a low light shooting mode like PureVideo on the DJI's as well. I'm not paid, nor sponsored and I bought my own Ace Pro out of my pocket. We are passed that now with so called "sponsored" or "bias" reviews as we are seeing more and more users posting their results and these aren't career content creators, neither am I lol
This is a issue with many of the action cameras, the min focus they quote is often inaccurate, My DJI distance is tack sharp, as i would expect, the issue is as you get closer the image object start to go soft. I have to put a diopter on the front, especially for putting action camera in one of those cheap underwater dome housings. I use a +1 diopter, get a larger diameter diopter to get better corner sharpness.
Biggest issue I have had is as you say the background on my Osmo 3 and Osmo 4 being out of focus in the corners. It gets even worse when stabilisation is on. However I also have the Ace Pro to try and I don't believe the lens is the issue that is causing the soft face focus. It looks to me to be more like AI smoothing or beautify enhancement baked into the camera, the same as on mobile phones and maybe the reason for the face recognition box when you are vlogging yourself. Maybe a way to test is to set up some text or non human image at different distances from the lens and see if it is sharp. If it is then this face issue could actually down to software running within the camera. Need to test this out myself to see.
Sorry my bad, I think I've been around Leica for 50 years lol I get the odd brain fart as I get older. And we were both actually wrong, Leica is actually ~175 years old, started in 1849 ;)
Great video and thank you for your honesty! Do you use something to mount the camera to front face on your backpack strap? Insta360 doesn't have that for the ace pro.
You can buy them anywhere, Amazon has tons or AliExpress, just do a search for Backpack camera mounts. The Ace Pro's mount is the same as the GoPro mount, it's pretty universal using the thumbscrews. I have several types, I have the ones that look like potato bag clips lol and I have ones that mount on using screws and clips to the mount.
Iv'e watched many dozens of videos of people using the Ace Pro as a blogging camera and focal length is a NON issue! Even as a bloging camera it works GREAT! I use it as a hiking/landscape camera and it's fantastic, especially at sunrise and sunset!!!
But how does this camera 📷 Focus Underwater? How are the minimum focus distance Underwater compared to normal? I am Diving in Green Water with mostly Bad visibility, and I need to be able to make closeups of small creatures but also make wide angle video closeup, so that the amount of water between the Camera lens and the object is as small as possible, in order to to minimize the amounts of small particles in front of the lens.. On my old film dslr I can choose to use a dedicated macro lens on a particular Dive, but if i need to make Wide angle shots I use a 16 mm and still go very close, with very little water between the object and the lens/ dome, port and that will give me improved picture quality..
Min focus won't change underwater for the camera. Yes, unfortunately the min focus for some it's not acceptable, doesn't affect me as I don't use my action cameras for macro shooting or even close up shooting. I have a dedicated camera for close up stuff. that said, min focus on this camera is about 18 inches, which for underwater shooting is more then sufficient. If I'm shooting that distance and need a closer view, I compensate by cropping in, at 4K it's still excellent. unlike back in the 1080p days where zooming/cropping is pretty much not usable footage. As for your other concerns, I've already done diving samples with the Ace Pro, search on my channel, there's plenty of footage for snorkeling and scuba diving. Funny you said that about bad visibility. We just got back from DR and the two dives we did in Punta Cana wasn't great, water was rough top and bottom, we had serious push and pull currents as you can see from one of the videos. The last dive was even worse for viz, stuff was pushing up from the floor and we actually lost visibility a few times but look at how the Ace Pro handled all the settlements and look how good the exposure/color was, those were right out of the camera, un-graded. I also had my DJI A4 strapped on my BCD, and I did a side by side with the Ace Pro in another video, huge difference. ;)
@@MiyagisRant Thank you very much for your quick and thorough reply! I really appreciate it 😄👍 I just found your channel because I was searching for reviews of the Ace Pro Camera, but most of them is above water ! I live in Denmark 🇩🇰 and the conditions can sometimes be very rough especially in the North Sea 🌊
Hey brother have you had any issues with using the acepro footage on GYROFLOW ? I use free frame for FPV and gyroflow . Insta said it works but gyrflow crashes. Any insight ?
When the DJI Action 3 didn't focus up close they said it was a BIG FAILURE, now that Insta needs 65cm of distance to focus correctly is it a human error? Let's come to an agreement please. From my humble point of view that distance is huge for a camera with such a small sensor, in fact it is a rumor that Insta is going to correct that ERROR in its next model. I was going to buy that camera and it was precisely because of that FAILURE that I didn't buy it and decided to wait for the next model.
Actually, the DJI Osmo 3 wasn't just a close focus issue, it was center focus issue. It was more prominent close up but the video if you looked closer, the center was off focus even at a distance. I know, I had the Osmo 3 and returned it when they issued a recall. The Ace Pro has a longer min focus range which they stated in their camera spec, no one bothered to read it. Once it surpasses the min focus, everything is crystal clear unlike the AO3.
ruclips.net/video/LQrk2yfDUKU/видео.html, here's a video of a strip down of the lens in the Osmo Action 3. DJI tried to pass it through via 'calibration' but it was hardware related why the recall, it was only the first batch that had this issue. Look at his video sample, that's not a "close up" only issue lol
Would it be possible for you to post a video that shows the full focal depth with the diopter using a measuring tape? ideally it would be great if you can do this in the narrowest field of view in order to illuminate distortions. I don't vlog. I make instructional videos and many people are asking me for close up shots. ideally I should use an ILC, but I work with a significant amount of grease, oils as well as fluids that can damage materials very quickly. hence why I use action cameras. Easy to clean and relatively cheap to replace. I've tried the gopro macro diopters but the focal lengths are way to short. The ace pro with a diopter might be a great solution for my purposes. thanks
@@kayjet64 I think the specs says min focus is like 5 to 6 feet, I think it's much shorter then that, my video was between 2 to 3 feet and looks pretty focus to me at least. I even showed it to my wife and she agrees so it's not just me lol
Hi. Just found you! I don’t think there is anything wrong with the focus, your vid looks great! I saw the Make Art guy, I wonder if he had a 52mm diopter would that work because I saw the edges were really distorted/blurry. I’m having trouble getting the file over to the UK but hoping I can find someone locally with a 3D printer to help! :) Editing because I made this comment before watching the whole vid!!! I think a 52mm will help like Camera Conspiracies has on his DJI action 4. :)
Of course you can, I just designed a new adapter for mine, just waiting on the lens I ordered, I bought a +4 43 mm Dioptre/Close up lens, I already have the adapter printed and ready to go. The 72mm was good but I found it bit too big lol I think he has even made a smaller on his comment section. The 43mm is probably the smallest I would go without effecting it's line of view, I'll find out soon enough, the next step up if it does would be the 49mm. I can get the +4 Dioptre for cheap so no biggie, and tbh, I will likely never use the thing but good to have in my bad just in case.
@@MiyagisRant I love how everyone is adapting with ideas rather sending it back. I contacted insta today to see if they were going to release a close focus lens or a black pro mist and they said no. I’m a decorator and didn’t want to get a big Sony or Canon for closeups of my detail work - I’d be too worried about breaking them (I’ll still probably get one but after a fujifilm as a daily shooter as well as film), and the Pocket 3 is out of the question!! When this came out it was perfect cos I can stick it in a corner, or off a door and still frame the shot with the flip up. I’ll be very interested seeing how you get on with your smaller diopter, but yeah - it’s not a deal breaker. Can I ask What do you use for your editing? I’m so new to this, I’m just looking at Davinci but wondered if it was necessary to upgrade from the free version. Thank you! 🙌
@@TakemesomewhereniceMCR Yah, tbh at the end of the day, this is really a great all around action cam. Unless this thing blows in the next 4 days before my return period ends, I honestly really enjoy this camera. It's not perfect by any means but the fact that all these "experts" are picking on these issues tells me that this is indeed a worthy camera and we are only 2 weeks into it's 'birth'. As with any camera, I always see it's potential in it's infancy, and like all the cameras, they usually just get better instead of being worse lol. I use various software for editing ranging from Davinci, Adobe Premiere, PowerDirector when I'm really lazy lol There's tons out there but if you're color grading, then yah, Davinci is the way to go and probably the least expensive if you invest.
Oh thank god, I just ordered one of these and then saw a bunch of bad reviews and was like 🥲🙃 But I want it for a trip to Japan, where I will be filming scenery and stuff, not my own boring face hahah. I considered the pocket 3 because a lot of people were like “oh that’s better picture quality” butttt I wanted something more rugged. I wanna be able to chuck it about a bit, if I’m using it for travel, y’know? Hopefully it works for me. Thanks for your review dude, made me feel better ❤
You can use this camera all around, you will always find "negative" reviews with ANY camera, GoPro and DJI has their share but if you do the comparisons, there's actually less negative reviews with the Ace Pro. There's not perfect camera and everyone uses their camera differently and each camera has their strengths and weaknesses. As for your use, this camera has been proving to be very rugged, tons of videos of it being dropped, kicked etc. If you're filming scenery, I would recommend the Ace Pro especially if you don't want to or know how to post color grade, this camera does a good job processing color. Glad I could help :)
Even at the distance you are sitting in the chair you are soft and your entire background is sharp. Perhaps its good enough for you, perhaps no one would care or notice in a RUclips vlog, but its fair to point out that fixed aperture, fixed focus cameras with larger sensors suffer from this issue and buyers should know it going in to decide if it is the right camera for them.
I agree but to discredit a camera because of this for everyone is hardly productive. Every camera suffers with something. GoPro has serious serious heating issues for the past 4 generations and users seem to think that's ok. I've lost footage due to that. The focus issue is only at close proximity, and you're right, everyone SHOULD know this and they do now. But beyond that range, this camera performs very well.
Just wondering, can you turn the HDR off or does it have to be on all the time? If it wouldn't be too much trouble maybe you could do a outdoor vlog comparison with and without the diopter just for fun Have a nice day!
No you cannot unfortunately but using it I prefer it on tbh, if you prefer not to use it, you can just go up the frame rates and it will turn it off in 48, 60, 120. Would be nice to have the option but maybe we'll see that in the next firmware update.
i want to say its more of "what is the subject being filmed" rather than "how are you using your camera." if you want everything to be completely clear, that's fine but, its definitely a style. when you are in a one on one environment, which is from a vloggers perspective, what do you want your focus on? i know the guy you're referring to and he is a vlogger. so he's griping about things from that kind of perspective. but for most videos from the dawn of filmography there has almost always been a blurry background when presented with a specific subject front and center. the viewer typically doesn't care about your mess in the background; they're simply more focused on you the presenter. if its obvious that the intended frame is scenic then yes i would say let everything be sharp and clear and focused beyond bounds.
But if you watch his video he also dives into other features of the camera, not just in a vlogging perspective. Also, not sure about you, I don't Macro Vlog that close. Let's be honest, action cameras were never designed to be vloggers, there are multitudes of cameras even your cell phones can do that and some even better. I disagree with background and your idea of how you use it, I would like to see the subject as well as the backdrop. I come from the photography/35 mm background and back in the days you HAD to change your settings or use a special lens to blur background, I see blurred backgrounds as an "effect" or used in "portrait" photography to accentuate the subject, but that's not in most cases in photography. If I'm vlogging on top of the Alps or areas where the background is JUST as important as the foreground (which for me is important) I would like a camera that gives me both options rather then one. And let's be honest, it's not as bad as he puts it out to be, like it's slightly off focus, not blurry to the point where you're going to vomit lol. Not to mention, on his video comparison with the DJI A4, why would you deceive people and bash the Ace Pro for having this focus issue and NOT the DJI, which he later admits in another video he used a close up lens on the DJI, interesting that he never bashed the DJI for having the same focus length? No, not bias at all lol
I personally don't film people. I film putting Legos and other crafts together and having a close range focus is really, REALLY important and I am having a very hard time finding the answer to this particular question.
As we already know that the Ace Pro has the least min focus range of the 3 big players. That said, if close range is what you shoot mainly in then I wouldn't suggest it at all, go with either the GP or A4, I have the A4 and close range is decent on it. I don't shoot close range much at all but that's just me and when I do want to, I have dioptres ready in my bag.
For that you can use the 2x zoom option which uses the 8k sensor to film 4k. Though if you use it for filming Legos you do not really need to waste money on an action camera. Get the latest iPhone or Galaxy and you'll have great image and macro camera available.
@@teabaggins3517 exactly, I don't use mine to vlog, my phone does a good job at it and there are other better options if vlogging is your thing. And if you really want to use this camera to do this job, there are solutions to do so, they aren't expensive solutions and will do the job.
@@stephanelarocque77Yah, there seems to be a lot of mix info on this, but as I tested, focus is good at the ~2 foot mark. If I need it closer, I already have the +2 close up dioptre ready to go for it, I don't typically shoot that close but thats me.
Is it possible for future firmware updates to fix this? Incase we also wanted close ups? Mainly not of my face but of items on a trip like a beer or something lol@@MiyagisRant
Lets go brother! Are you on all auto? Dude the filter is danK! Real talk. I respect you so much for you technical review! I am going to challenge you that I can use DJI and other more controlled AI software to produce a better image. End of day you point out the exact reason why it works for some style of shooters and not others. Respect!
Yah, all auto, 4K/30fps hdr, std stab, low light enhance wasn't even on, if it was it probably would be a tad better lol. Oh I have no doubt through post edit and tweaking you could with the DJI but I'll be brutally honest, the small handful of people like you would are tech savvy colorist doesn't outweigh the majority of people who just want to hit the record button and get excellent results, that's just a fact bro in my years of selling cameras. I've had more people ask me for better low light and better zoom without heating issues then 10 bit color lol, the numbers aren't even close. Now see yourself as a company who designing a new camera, what audience would you target? 85% of the market or the 15% ? Remember, 10 bit wasn't introduced until GoPro 11, we ALL seem to manage and got perfectly fine professional video out our cameras before then lol. If this camera had a serious hardware issue and the image was Akaso quality, then yah, legit argument but some of these "wannabe professionals" can only come with this to argue then that just proves this is a worthy camera to look at. Because IF Insta360 pushes a 10 bit upgrade to the Ace Pro, I will bet you my left nut 'these' same people will find some other thing to pick at this camera. Remember that most people who use actioncams at the end of the day just want to shoot, download and watch without pissing around, sometimes even the pros and that they don't have a nice studio or the equipment or the skill / knowledge to go and color grade. Does this feature makes this a bad camera??? Watch those "wannabes" most will say this camera is garbage because it doesn't have 10 bit, now watch some of the reviews by professionals in the VFX or design industry, two very different comments ;) Let me know how you like the P3, that's a nice camera man, wish i had the money to get that also.
Most of the hate video I saw on the ace pro only hated on the focus distance, flip-up screen and the non-removeable lens cover and immediately says “its a deal breaker”. I mean, cmon. I don’t think its that bad of an issue, at least for me
Typical of any new camera launch but this one has some pretty groundbreaking features I have to say. The low light shooting although not perfect is hands down a leap against it's competitors. Now, let's see who follows suit in their next model, this will prove that Ace Pro was the first :)
@@maxwellsvader2573 Well there's a couple of links, one is to another youtuber if you want to buy the 72mm adapter from him, the only at the bottom is a 3D printer file so if you have a 3D printer you can print it yourself. You can now buy aluminum adapters that go to 52mm lenses on Amazon and Aliexpress now.
All lenses even for DSLR.cameras wll state their closest focus range and to infinity. The definition of a fixed focus lens means FIXED focus range!! Get with the program people!
Yup and why I wonder all these people bitching about this issue. Not like these things have autofocusing in them, if it did and it still did this then yah, this would be a big problem lol
I'm fine with the ACE Pro focus. Most people don't give a crap about seeing your face super close, and I certainly don't. Some of these people need to worry more about their content.
Tell me about it, I can barely look at myself from afar let this damn close lol Yup, at the end of the day it's what comes out of that camera that suits your needs. These "experts" need to knock that chip off their shoulders.
We were looking for a minimum focus distance review for a while and so far yours is the only one we found. So do you recommend we get this camera for vloggin? On a selfie stick? Google said the minimum focus distance is 0.4 meters, and it said that the dji action 4 is also 0.4 meters. And I heard a lot of channels say that the cameras actually use the exact same sensor. Do you think that is true? If so the minimum focus distance would probably need to be the exact same also.
.4 meters / 1.5 feet sounds about right, I would say anything before that you'll start to see the focus go off a bit, it's not like it's unusable by any means. My video was mostly done within that range, avg 2 feet which for most, that's vlogging distance unlike that guy who was trying to film a Tim Burton movie apparently lol. Both cameras have the exact size sensor but the Ace Pro is still better with low light due to 5 nm processor, 8K sensor and Leica lens, this has been proven time and time again with other reviews with side by side comparisons with the DJI A4, once it's gets darker, the DJI falls short because it's current cpu can't keep up with the stabilization, not the case with the Ace pro. If my video was acceptable to you then you have your answer in that respect. I'll ask you a couple of qualifying questions as I do with my customers when I was selling cameras. Will you be using this camera other than vloggin? ie. sports, snorkelling, diving, on the beach anything near water or in a 'active' environment? Second, is background clarity an important factor when you vlog? for me, absolutely. If you answer yes to both of those questions then yes, this camera would be a good choice, not to mention the multitude of features this camera has compared to it's competition. With today's phone tech, you can really vlog with your phone and get amazing results and most people do, once you step beyond that usage, that's where an action camera comes in. If you're sole purpose is just to vlog, then save yourself 500 bucks and stick with your phone. Look at the latest Iphones and Samsungs now, they're video/photo qualities is insane. I hope that helps.
so far i've seen 3 youtube videos (including this one) that discussed this focusing issue. they (channel names: camera conspiracies and make art now) even mounted a diopter on the ace pro lens to adjust the focus. 😊
@@walkwithyanYup, and my review was based on those two reviews. The make.art.now guy was pretty good, did you see the interview with the vfx guy in it? and this video was to counter conspiracy guy one lol I got the dioptre print file from make.art.now guy, he's got a link that you can download to print on your own. I'm going to redesign it because the 72mm lens is a bit big, makes the Ace Pro look odd lol I've ordered a 43mm +4 close up, it was like $6 and I'll design a filter cap for that lens size once I get it, it will be much smaller and shouldn't get in the way of the focus.
@@MiyagisRantits good that you discussed this. other reviewers seem to be neglecting this or they do not know how to dicuss and solve this. thanks for your review. 😊
@@walkwithyan Yah, so far this camera has been a solid performer, I have not really encountered any weird glitches but don't forget it's only 2 weeks old, I'm sure I will find something but nothing critical yet.
I've got one thing to say, DIOPTER! And yes, 2ft, 60cm is the TRUE focus, not 40cm as it's claimed. Nobody records video up that close except for those of us recording Instructional videos and expect a closeup to be zoomed in....We buy lens for that. An action cam lens will have a fixed focal point as you pointed out. It will either be better for long ranges or close ranges. As human eyes, you have near sighted and you have far sighted.
even at 60cm it's still a bit out of focus, that's the length of my arm, so for me that's a design flaw or production error or a marketing lie. Remember: the model without "Pro" supposedly has the focus distance of 60cm!
Are you able to use freeframe mode and have the pure low light setting on at the same time? Some owners are saying no but insta360 says you can. Who to believe ? lol
As far as I can see, the FreeVideo only shoots in 4K up to 60 frames and not in PureVideo, you can adjust the view mode and horizontal lock degrees and activate the secondary low light stabilizer though, I did a test last night, I'll post it tonight, it's not PureVideo but still better then what GoPro and DJI put out at night in that mode, I don't even DJI has this kind of shooting mode, this is basically like GP's 5.3K mode that allows you to crop horizontally/vertically. PureVideo is an actual shoot mode, not a 'on top' of feature you can implement in any shooting mode. Makes sense as this mode moves to the 5nm cpu specifically to achieve that crazy low light clarity.
@@MiyagisRant thank you for this very helpful write up. Yeah, DJI does not do it, which is my choice is either GoPro or ace pro. Since you're saying you can still adjust some lighting and still better than GoPro, that's enough for me. Plus, the editing in the app seems the easiest and pause record setting will be so helpful. Thank you again, really appreciate it.
@@craigshandworld If you're worried about low light, GP is a bad choice, GoPro just can't do low light period. That 5.3k is great on the GoPro, but once it hits that low light mark, the video is just unsable. I would go DJI if not the Ace, imo.
@@MiyagisRant yeah, I've been mostly leaning towards picking ace pro. It makes things far easier to create content for people that hate editing like me
@@MiyagisRant action 4 doesn't have the ability to film in full mode where you can easily switch between vertical and wide angle. Which is one of the biggest selling points for what camera I buy
I have 100 subscribers? LOL Yah, I think that guy who originally made these sells them now, if you know someone who has one, I can send you the print file, takes like 6 minutes to print it lol
Straight out of the camera at 4K 30fps HDR Standard Stabilization, I didn't even activate the low light enhancement mode which probably would have been a tad better lol
@@walkwithyanThere's slight different but no, no HDR in 60 or 120 but I suspect that will change in future firmware. A lot are comparing this apples to apples, but not realizing the hardware in this thing and why this shooting at 4k/30fps with hdr doesn't have banding which is prone with 8bit color devices. the reason for was explained in one of the other reviews, the Ace Pro uses the 5 nm cpu combined with a high bitrate recording, it has the highest bitrate recording then any camera out there, the 8k sensor and the leica to achieve near 10 bit quality. That's impressive alone.
I get your point but there are some people that do a lot of POV videos like street photography that need put their cameras close to the recording cam and it needs to be in focus. I guess the Ace pro is only good if you are a blogger and nothing else.
"blogger and nothing else", because it doesn't have as good as close focusing as it's competitors? There's lots of videos out that people are using for street photography and this is an "action camera". If you're that concerned about this one small issue, then use the dioptre fix and if you would rather not, then there are other alternative cameras. Remember, DJI Action and earlier GoPro's also had a limited close range focusing but they seem to do just fine. As I keep saying, everyone uses their camera differently but to simply say this is a blogger and "nothing" else is a bit unfair considering it's other many features that are hands down better then it's competitors in it's class.
@@Pirate_Off the top of my head, this one but I've seen many more and they are a mix of video and photography. Do a search and you'll have to go through all the videos for the Ace Pro, I've pretty much seen them all since it's launched. ruclips.net/video/13S8pU_YVrw/видео.html

@@MiyagisRant Sadly none of these videos back up your point that you were trying to make. Both videos are just other influencers showing the good things about the camera but never do they disclose the close up issue. Don't get me wrong I am considering on buying this camera but upon looking at that diopter filter fix it's not worth it at all. since it zooms in the picture by a lot which renders the whole point of the filter useless.
Actually the Ace Pro focuses at 18 inches, but if you micro vlog closer then that then yes, there are other better options. For that close, I'll just use my phone, does the job 😉
Think the 360 is just hype, it has some nice tech but it tried to be a vlog and action cam all in one and too many compromises means it failed at both for many reasons. I think the overhype is drving sales rather than just a great product.
Sorry I disagree, we are way passed the hype stage now and seeing more and more people who have purchased this and used it in live action. I for one has had this for a week and the low light shooting is light years ahead of it's competitor especially the GoPro, not to mention no over heating issues which both brands still face today. Literally every company "hypes" at launch to push their cameras, you're really going sit there and tell me that GoPro and DJI doesn't do that? That's a bit naive if you ask me. Let me ask you this, do you have the camera and have you used it? I'm going to say you don't by your reply. And what compromises are you talking about about? a longer min focusing range but a better longer range detail? I don't call that a compromise. A flip screen is a FEATURE you don't have to use it, drop it down and lock it, problem solved. I could care less about a front display, I never use it on my DJI but that's me. If we judge the entire camera based on a non removable lens cap, then we have serious priority issues when we seem to have survived generations and generations of camera that didn't have removable lens guards. Compromise? lol how about a 12th gen camera that continues to have serious heating issues, horrible touch screen and ZERO low light shooting capabilities, keep drinking the Kool Aid.
@@MiyagisRant I had one sent it back, the flappy screen with flex cable was not for me, from powered down I like to press one button and record not have to move screens about, I like front screens use them all the time for framing. The lens cover is an issue for me, the battery life was not great. The mag mount was just terrible, but I just prefer the old quick release mounts, on all cameras I don't use or care about there apps. The close focus is not a massive issue for me but when I need it for products and wildlife details etc then I need it to be sharp. It just seems lacking in many areas and pushes forward in a few niche areas that I just don't care about. It's just wasn't for me. The hype and paid adverts through reviewers that didn't declare it was over the top and way higher than I have ever seen on this product, it insta made me suspicious, great products speak for themselves.
@@TacBlades And I've said many times that this camera is not for everyone and everyone has different uses. But you said it's hype, explain? Hype usually means it's advertising something thats not true. Every feature they advertised is true, good low light then it's competitor, a flip up screen for vlogging use, better zoom, better interface and better in camera functions, gestures, all these were true and let's be honest, better then it's competitor. I won't mention 8K because they don't even mention but very usable. This camera is very sharp compared to the top two just not as good on within the 3 foot range to lens, tbh, I find this camera much sharper than the other two at long range. You're right, it's not the camera for you but it is for my shooting needs, we shouldn't simply accuse this camera as just hype and too many compromises, I don't see it that way, the advantages imo outweigh its competitors. Wildlife shooting with an actioncam would also be considered a niche area, hate to break it to you. How many countless users for both GP and DJI have been asking for better low light and why DJI is selling better then GoPro due to that exact reason, but when someone else comes out with it better, it's a niche area? wow funny how that works right?
Excellent points you've raised. I noticed now too on a second viewing of the review video in reference, that yes, the stores across the street were much sharper on the Ace Pro than the DJI. I don't vlog either and want to get as much detail in the distance as possible with POV driving in low light conditions. I had some doubts about my purchase, but this video reaffirms my decision. I think the irony is there is no 'perfect' camera and if there were, there would be a lot less review videos in circulation :D Thanks for your video @damench22
Yah, I confronted that reviewer about this and his response was "well, that's your problem, you're looking at the background not the foreground..." I was like... what? lol Yah, I've done tons of driving footage with this, the day videos are great but the night videos are where this thing shines.
"Leica lens" is the biggest brand prostitution lie ever... Leica will license their name to any Tom Dick and Harry company (cough Huawei cough Panasonic cough Xiaomi cough). There is nothing special about a small-sensor phone/action camera lens.
LOL I like that 'prostitution', think i'm going to use that from now on. That said, I come from the era of optics where glass, light, air is crucial to quality. When you try to do all that in a "1" inch format. ie. action cams, point and shoot and phones, it will never be the same. You forgot Sony/ Canon / Zeiss btw, yah, I grew up with this "prostitution" ring ;) The Ace Pro has been in partnership with Leica for a long time now and it actually uses a strip down version of their Summarit lense so it's actually using a lens by Leica, what does this mean, probably not much in this form factor other then maybe a slight quality advantage over the others. EVERY single one of these cameras including phones are heavily dependent on a combination of software and hardware to achieve the results, some do it quite well like this Ace Pro, hell, look at the Google Pixel phones, the images that come out of that ringky dinky thing is pretty impressive and it's mostly software doing that work. Yah Yah, I know you and I will say, well, it will never be like our old world $5000 monster glass optical lens but it's not meant to be lol. At the end of the day, it's what looks good to us and not what others tell us it should look like. p.s. every company whores their product to household names, it's just marketing. By your analogy, I would like to put the Ace Pro in the "escort" category rather then the "hooker" category ;) .. that is a good one though, Merry Christmas!
I agree 100% with everything you said. It is like all of the negative reviewer videos are PAID to do so. I was all set to buy the DJI Action 4 but then I watch a few honest side by side comparison reviews and Insta pro Ace was hands down the winner over the Go Pro and DJI. + with the flip up screen and pause button I was sold!
Have you guys seen this just released comparing the Ace Pro to the DJI Action 4, I watched a lot of Jake Rich videos, he does a lot of watersports stuff and action camera reviews, ruclips.net/video/8nPTVnfYssI/видео.html&ab_channel=JakeRichandAnnaChah Check it out, is it me or does the Ace Pro kill the DJI??? look at the detail and colors, he should have kept the Ace Pro on standard instead of Vivid tbh but yah, detail and exposure and he didn't even get into low light comparisons.
Guy who was complaining about the focus distance likes to see the hair up his nose and the black heads in the pores on his nose. If you keep the camera less than 2 feet away from your face the image will be totally distorted.
Now that's the truth! I knew the other review was very bias & unfair. There's a reason it's called Action Cam! Not Selfie Cam! Thanks damench22 for speaking out. I have been using this AP for 3 weeks for my motorcycle & loving it. Btw which wireless mic do you recommend for this AP? I got a BOYA BY-V20 and too bad it is not compatible. Most folks are waiting for DJI mic 2
Everyone has their own usage and not every person is the same when using these action cams. As for the mic, the best set up is the DJI Wireless mic setup from what I've seen and read. I just finally tested the bluetooth headset feature on this and I have to admit, it worked better then I expected. It does use the latest Bluetooth 5.2 which is quite clear. I hooked up my Bose Frames to it and the quality of the recorded is quite acceptable for me. I'm not an audiophile so it's not my forte but it's good enough for my use not to mention I don't have to spend another $300 on the DJI wireless kit. But if you want to go this route, those $50 Amazon wireless mics work really good, at least the quality comes out excellent my cell phone, you'll still need the Insta360 mic adapter attachment for that. I really like the bluetooth method as there's no stuff protruding out of my Ace Pro, yah, if you're a serious vlogger you can do that insane vlogging setup on your camera.

The Ace Pro and DJI A4 are very similar in focus when it comes to min and max, the GoPro is very good at close proximity focus, that was never an argument but where GoPro doesn't do as well is distance clarity and detail compared to the DJI and Ace Pro. I'm starting to think this is due to the sensor size because the DJI A4 and Ace Pro have the same sensor size and both seem to have very similar limitations. But yah, take a look at the footage further then 6 feet to infiniti, DJI and Ace beats GoPro hands down. So I guess buyers will have to determine what is important to them and their use, for me, it's distance clarity and color not to mention the main reason, low light where the GoPro can't even touch.
@@MiyagisRant you did not "under" my comment! You continued your video after you maid you point by moving extremely close to cam, and then you continued your "normal" video also out of focus!
@@sunlit777 Yes, I "maid" it that way because I'm trying to tell the audience the focus at that length is not so bad that you're going to vomit lol Yes, the Ace Pro does have a longer min focus range but compared to the other cameras, it's min to infinite focus is better. Also, just because it has a flip up screen doesn't mean this is a vlogging camera, they don't advertise it as a "vlogging" camera. If I can to use it as a vlogger, there are other better options, even my phone does better lol.
LOL, because average vlogging distance is between 2 to 3 feet at that distance you can see that 2.4" screen much better then you can see GoPro or DJI's puny little screen so you're argument is ridiculous. You're really going to sit there and tell me that with all the other BETTER features ie. low light, zoom etc etc you're going to decide on a camera that overheats and croaks when the sun goes down? Keep drinking that Kool Aid, have a good day.
Hello,
I'm currently looking into this issue for my Ace Pro. I found a 52mm adapter for One R on thingiverse. It pretty much fits on the camera but it's not perfect.

Yah, I know, I don't know what the fuss is all about, I guess the fanboys have to pick on something even when it's this trivial lol
Excellent non bias observation and review. I agree with you all the way. I bought one and will post samples in the future.
I am dropping a video at noon of me using the Ace Pro doing kayak fishing only issue was I accidentally turned off stabilization 😮 but I thought the image quality was really good 👍
Yah I did that the first night I took this out lol but it still actually looked good that's the scary part.
Well spoken, I was torn after being a long term GoPro user since the first release Hero 1 silver. Although I have nothing bad to say about GoPro, I can tell you everything I have wanted from their cameras have still not been resolved on their hero 12black. Number 1 for me is better lowlight. 2.) A bigger screen
3.) faster startup, and push of button capture times.
Leica Camera is 110 years old, not just 50 as you mentioned in the video :)
I also had my DJI A4 strapped on my BCD, and I did a side by side with the Ace Pro in another video, huge difference. ;)

Hey brother have you had any issues with using the acepro footage on GYROFLOW ? I use free frame for FPV and gyroflow . Insta said it works but gyrflow crashes. Any insight ?
You have to use it in FreeVideo mode, stabilizer off, otherwise it will crash Gyroflow.
The ace pro with a diopter might be a great solution for my purposes. thanks
Yah I'll try to do a video of samples of all 4 close up lenses, hopefully later this week. Crazy Christmas week for me ;)
How about keeping the 2 foot distance and tapping twice the screen to 2x zoom. Does it keep the focus?
I think you would lose image quality, it's still a zoom, I'll try it and see.
@@MiyagisRant not with the Ace pro in 8k. No image quality issue

Would you mind sharing the print file for the one you designed? Thank you
Yah, of course, once I test it for fit, I will release the files for everyone.
Editing because I made this comment before watching the whole vid!!!

Hello. I just wonder why Pocket 3 is out of the question. What makes you think so?@@TakemesomewhereniceMCR
The focus is fine and it's not 6 feet that's absurd 😂
Perhaps 6 short feet? 😂
@@MiyagisRantI’ve lost a ton of footage due to GoPros overheating.
Just wondering, can you turn the HDR off or does it have to be on all the time? If it wouldn't be too much trouble maybe you could do a outdoor vlog comparison with and without the diopter just for fun
Have a nice day!

What video are you referring to that we need to watch and dissect?
Remember: the model without "Pro" supposedly has the focus distance of 60cm!
even when you got super close it wasn't that blurry LOL
Yah, that ending footage there with the sunset is awesome! I can actually see your face in that low light.

I 100% agree 👍
You are absolutely correct 😁
I agree 100% with everything you said. It is like all of the negative reviewer videos are PAID to do so. I was all set to buy the DJI Action 4 but then I watch a few honest side by side comparison reviews and Insta pro Ace was hands down the winner over the Go Pro and DJI. + with the flip up screen and pause button I was sold!
Everything is crisp n focused except u
Yah, that was the point of this video lol, ace pro and dji a4 both have longer min focus ranges
Well it is a deal breaker because cameras are supposed to be able to focus.
And cameras that consistently overheat are deal breakers to me, they aren't suppose to be hand warmers.
@@MiyagisRant It's ridiculous how companies release these cameras with insufficiencies and people make content making excuses for it. Like, no bro, its a 💩 camera that the company deserve to take a loss on. Anybody can see that. Stop making these companies think it's OK and encouraging people to spend their hard earned money on clearly insufficient kit.
@@pros6359You're correct by your logic, GoPro should not be in circulation due to it's horrible screen interface and 'again' it's chronic overheating issues for the last 4 generation of cameras. You do realized that it's on it's 12th camera right? DJI also faces the same issues with consistent jitters in their video. Name one camera out in the market that doesn't have it's share of issues on launch? Please, and I'll give you a list of problems with that camera. No one is making it look like it's ok, in face, it's quite the opposite. We point out it's limitations and hopefully they will fix it which btw if you have been keeping up with what's going, Insta360 is addressing this issue but they already listed on the specs the minimum focus range which is more then DJI or GoPro, so you're argument is redundant as they did not lie on their specs but nice try, have a great day.
@@pros6359You do realized that GoPro users have gotten so use to the over heating issue after 4 gens that they don't even bring it up anymore lol so which do you think is worse?
@@MiyagisRant It's not a which is worse or better scenario for me. It's unacceptable across the board
Good video but you don't need to repeat the same things many times :P
Noted lol I'm new to the whole vlogging thing, use to be all typing and style back in the day when you could do back and edit easily. I don't have a script like those pro vloggers maybe I should lol
Don't listen to them. You were very authentic and drove the point home. Most these videos are too cookie cutter and not real. You didn't have any edits (that one pause for printing) I like it. Keep it real brother!@@MiyagisRant
For me deal breaker is flickering lights during the day and night,i did try all possible settings but nothing works. Its crap.and beside that cant replace lens, flip screen, waterproof is poor, fragile
I'm sure you'll be happier with your brand, it's not for everyone as I said.
You are out of focus in this video. If it were an autofocus camera you would say it isn’t focusing.
Yes, as explained, Ace Pro has a longer min focus range.
So I guess buyers will have to determine what is important to them and their use, for me, it's distance clarity and color not to mention the main reason, low light where the GoPro can't even touch.
who vlogs like that, he said, and then moved closer to camera and continued vlogging with face out of focus! =)
I guess you didn't under the purpose of my video LOL
If I can to use it as a vlogger, there are other better options, even my phone does better lol.
its got a flip screen for vlogging, so 1-2 feet should be in focus. why have a screen and hold the camera away 3-4 feet. Get a GoPro.
