@@Headstoneman Yeah they definitely had something caked onto them, but the fact that you scrubbed with soap, then left D2 to soak on it over a span of time, & rescrubbed I think that helped a lot!
What kind of brush do you use? I've been cleaning stones for quite a few years but I'm trying to find a larger one to cover more area. I use Dawn dish soap and water, plastic putty knives to scrape the lichen off, then brush the stones and rinse. I found a plastic pick set on Amazon to get into the lettering. I was able to do 3 small rows in a local cemetery before I ran out of water. Some of the older ones don't have water sources.
I use Tampico fiber brushes fender brushes. You can also get Tampico fiber brushes from Home Depot or Menards… they are called acid brushes and come with a hole to put a broom handle on them. If you want hand brushes you can order them from Atlaspreservation.com and use code PAST48 for a 12% discount on anything from their website.
@@Headstoneman Awesome. I've got to hit Home Depot to get some weed eater string. I've been working with the caretaker at a local cemetery, he's 82 and I'm 70...between the two of us we're 150 years old :) I invested in a new Ryobi weed eater with dual speeds with the .80 string and it's so much faster. As I'm only 5' tall I use a Bungee holder on it so make it easier on me. The pick set is 18 pieces and amazing to get into the lettering. One In worked on today had a beautiful flower pattern on it but groves about 1/2" deep in places and they worked great. My grandson is helping me now and I'm trying to teach him a lot of the local history too. It's great to see another person who does this. I just do it because I grew up next to a cemetery and spent a lot of years playing in it. Some day that will be me and hope someone will care enough to take care of my stone.

I have recently started cleaning headstones. I get a sense of satisfaction from it, maybe one get paid for it...maybe. So far I have only used Wet and Forget It...but not long enough to establish a track record. I will be getting some D/2 soon and do some comparing.
It's satisfying for me too. I just started cleaning some as well. I also wouldn't mind turning it into a paying gig. I put a little note on my find a grave page to let people know I am available to do the service
@@Headstoneman I've used Wet & Forget and have had great results. Wet & Forget works best when it's applied to dry surfaces and it's the weather conditions are not too hot and the material has a few hours to set into the stone. Depending on how bad it is it may take 2 or 3 coats but with enough persistence you'll get great results. I would use D2 but it's way more pricey and it's not as readily available like Wet & Forget is.
@@oOignignoktOo1 wet and forget works… but it has not been proven to be totally safe for historic monuments and stonework like D/2 has been…. Also the diluted nature of wet and forget makes it work slower than D/2. 1 gallon of D/2 will treat 40 stones and they will be totally void of biological growth afterward.

I appreciate that!
Thank you for covering the flowers. That was very thoughtful
Those stones look fantastic. Looks like they were quite the workout! Well done.
You should see them now! I’ll do an update!
You protected those flowers...so sweet🤗🙏🌼
Someone paid good money for those… and spent time planting them. I do what I can to make my customers happy
Great job! I enjoy watching somebody else do the work for a change :)
Lol! That can be oddly satisfying!
Y’all do some amazing work considering what you start with
You should see them now! They shine like diamonds!
Thank You for showing the finished stones! You are one of the few that shows the “after!” Well done you!👏👏👏
I try to! Sometimes I just don’t have that luxury but I’m going to try to do updates on some that I started last year.

Hahaha! I wish!
That confused me too when I first started watching him...LOL😂
What kind of soap? I can't understand what he's using.
Orvus paste

Love it!
How much do you charge for 4 stones like that?
You can send me an email at Pastpreservation1@gmail.com if you would like information
May I ask how you get your clients? Or do you just go around and do for free, random stones?

❤️❤️❤️👍👍👍👍👍
Thank you!
How much would you charge to clean a head stone like you did in this video?
Single headstones range anywhere from $25 to $50 depending on size and condition. I believe I charged $50 a piece on these
What price range for the old marble ones from from the 1800's to1900's? Big and small? For an example a modern woodsman one?
Can you share the D2 product you’re using?

@@WayneColley-b9n about 1 tablespoon to a gallon
What would you charge pre each headstone?
I charge $50 for larger single space and $25 for smaller ones. The price goes up from there
@@Headstoneman this is something I'd really enjoy doing. Cemeteries is where I find my peaceful place.
What do you charge to do that.
$25-$50 per stone for this size
Use a portable sandblaster.

Absolutely not
Is D2 diluted or used as is?
I use it straight
