Longest Down & Distance in Modern NFL History (3rd & 48)

- This is, to my knowledge, the longest down and distance that any team has faced in modern NFL history. Apparently the Patriots had a 4th & 61 in 1971, but I have no idea where that clip is.

The punt didn’t even get a first down 😂
In his defense, he was about 15 yards behind the line of scrimmage
Lmao
Yes normally its 17 yards
Nice find
I never knew they left the line to gain graphic on the field for punts lol, but I’d also never seen 4th and 48 before
3rd and 48 sounds like something you would only see in Madden
Fr
In madden 13 cause it’s so broken they are intercepting everything
One time, my friend got 4th and 96 in Madden, lol.
This only happened to me when I forgot to pause the game on offense and got multiple delay of game penalties.
@@SomeGuyWhoPlaysGames333 did... did he convert?
nice
Nice ding
Hey I watch u
Tomorrow is the day after halloween. You know wat that means..
The sleigh bells ring ding a ling a ling ling. That Christmas vibe
Nice ding
Not only was this 3rd & 48, the Raiders only had 7 minutes left in the game. How bad can you mess something like this up? Just ask the Raiders.
Nah I usually ask the Jets
Nah I normally just ask the Falcons
Nah I typically ask the Lions
They have 3 SV rings. What more do you want? I’m a Chiefs fan btw
It's just fascinating how a team can get "3rd and 48th".
And that Kansas City could probably convert one😂
I used to be able to convert on that on Madden 08 on my Ds just to annoy the AI
@Brian Bedlam wow ok but we’re super bowl champions when’s the last time they even been to the ship
@@ombbloodbathfanpage22 but we talking now and te raiders beat y'all this season lmao 😭😭😭😭
What I can’t seem to figure out is why in the hell the Raiders attempted a little screen pass on 3rd and 48….. A screen???
Then I remember, it’s the Raiders.
They clearly should have punted on first down.
Hindsight is always 20/20.
Brilliant commenet
In the early days of football it wasn't uncommon to punt on first down if you were backed up near your goal line. The idea being that a safety or a fumble was more likely than a 90-ish yard scoring drive, best to let your defense try and accomplish something.
That was very nearly a 4th and 58 😂
Nearly a safety! A safety on a set of downs that started at midfield 🤣
Lining up in shotgun and throwing the ball on 3rd and 48 is wild
Why? Yards are yards
@@elijahfoster2 Yards aren't yards when the next down you'll be 4th and 30 at max, best to do a hail mary to avoid the punt
The Raiders' drives from this game:
Punt
Punt
Missed FG
Touchdown
Punt

End of Game.
The Raiders outgained the Chiefs 274-216, had more first downs (18 vs. 16) and held the ball for 34 minutes vs. 26 but those three turnovers and losing 63 yards on nine sacks (vs. 23 on three) and 11 penalties for 68 yards (vs. four for 20) just straight up killed them.
I wonder who has the longest down and distance conversion!!
🤔
3rd and 37 Vikings I believe in the 1990s
Leroy Hoard yep
Understandable… Leroy hoard was known as a game breaker with breakaway speed lol
Terrell Pryor had no business being an NFL quarterback.
I've never even heard of this guy.
@@Sean-wp7st 😅😅😅 what are you, 15??
@@Sean-wp7sthe went on to have a forgettable short career at wide receiver with his best season at the position being with the Browns.
The only reason I know he exists is Madden.
He was a pretty good WR though.
Even watching Terrelle Pryor taking bad sacks makes this moment so laughable
Even better, he threw two picks after this--one of which was a pick-six--and gave KC their last ten points
Wow, crazy. You have to have every single thing go wrong offensively to accomplish a 3rd and 48. (Tell the defense: just don't hold!...lol)
Remember when the Eagles converted a 4th and 26 vs. the Packers in the playoffs? That was crazy. This video just reminded me of that.
Or the Ravens 4th and 29 against the Chargers in 2012
As a Packers fan, yeah, I remember
Fun fact: that's no ordinary delay of game. That's 137.5 dB at field level, measured by calibrated meters from the Guinness Book of World Records, setting what was at the time the world record for outdoor sports crowd noise.
That's louder than a damn rock/metal concert, lmao.
1:11 three offensive linemen on one of the defense guys and they still couldn’t stop him
Number 20 turned around and was looking at Pryor instead of the Chiefs on second down! What were they doing?
Lol when the punt doesn't even make it to the first down marker...😅
Bro didn’t know about the 3rd & 50 the Vikings got in a 1999 game against the Packers
thank you!!
Imagine if they went for it on 4th down xD
Madden style lol
At least they'd have the element of surprise.
Would have been hilarious if the raiders got a 1st down on a defensive holding call or something 😂 when it’s 3rd and 48 why not just chuck it deep and hope for PI? If they pick it off it’s like a punt anyway.
Pryor did chuck it deep~ 7 yards into the back on a KC lineman🤣🤣
Also holds Longest touchdown run by a quarterback.
The funniest thing is that they didn't even get any yards on 3rd down. It actually went from 3rd and 48 to 4th and 48. You'd think the defense would let you have some yards back on a quick screen or a draw, and the Raiders couldn't even do that.
But hey, at least the incompletion stopped the clock 😆
I miss this defense, would be amazing if we had them while we had mahomes.
Dude, if we had this defense and today's offense we would literally go win five straight Super Bowls.
You’ve got a better defense now!
They should’ve went for it on 4th down, I’m certain with Pryor under center they would’ve converted
into a safety probably.
3rd and 93, but sadly it's not the NFL.
What's funnier than 3rd and 48, is they're only down 7, with 4 minutes on the clock.
What a barnburner that one was, huh?
And it ended up 24-7 cause TP threw two picks after this, one was a pick-six
That's the Alex Smith years for ya
I wish they started at the 1 yard line goal to goal and somehow lost 98 yards via holding and sacks making it 3rd and 99.
Ah yes, the play from the Jon Bois punting video.
"I watched this happen live, it's very near and dear to me!"
Link?
what about the louisiana tech vs miss st play it was like 4th and 93
Anyone remember this from chart party with Jon bois?
I was just watching that yesterday! 😅
Didn’t the browns have a 1st and 40 earlier this season? They’re lucky they didn’t end up in this video instead lol
Yeah that’s insane
No, that was the Bears vs the Packers. It was 1st and 10, then with three 10 yard penalties, it made it 1st and 40. Then two incompletions later, it's 3rd and 40 (similar to this video). Then the Bears gained 9 yards on this play to make it 4th and 31.
I'm curious....what year is the line between "modern NFL history" and NFL history that apparently doesn't count anymore?
Those OSU quarterbacks 😂
fUtUre hALl oF fAmE lOcK In
Somewhere in this clip, we should find a definition of "futility."
In 1977, the Chiefs had a 3rd and 56 against the Packers, both teams that year were miserable that year.
That O-line gave TP a very clear and open pocket to pass from. Poor guy was playing scared
I would go for it on 4th and 38 only on Tecmo Bowl!! 👍😆👍
IIRC the Packers allowed the Eagles to convert a 4th and 26
Loved it!
Chargers allow Ravens to convert a 4th and 29 in 2012, even worse it was the same screen pass the Raiders tried here and like eight guys can't bring Ray Rice down
Decades ago, the Boston Patriots had a 4th & 63 situation. But this is the worst 3rd down & distance of which I'm aware.
Dallas came close in a 1974 game in Saint Louis. A double reverse to Drew Pearson was blown up into a 21-yard loss and a 15-yard penalty was tacked on for clipping, giving them a 1st-and-46. I think applying an offensive penalty like that was outlawed the following year.
This is a backwards football game
They went from midfield to their own red zone.
That defense punished a lot of teams. 50 sack, Tamba, EB, DJ. It was absolutely stacked.
At 3rd and forever I'd think it would be optimal to attempt a quick kick so that the defense wouldn't have an opportunity to block a punt or set up a return.
I believe the eagles did that once with Randall Cunningham and he got a 73 yd punt on a crazy roll on that old astroturf
Leave it to the Raiders to find themselves needing to traverse HALF the football field to convert a 1st down
HAPPY HOLLOWEEN
You To
I love ridiculous down distances. My favorite has got to be the LA Tech (NCAA, I know) 3rd and goal...from the opposite 7 yard line...making it 3rd and 93.
This is what happens when you have a wide receiver playing QB, and the FB has to point out who the Mike linebacker is (:59).
The announcer said “We’re in Oakland.” No, no you’re not. Unless you’re broadcasting a game in KC from Oakland…
Imagine if the PR muffed the punt and the offense recovered it. It would still be the Chiefs ball because turnover on downs.
I remember watching this, and couldn't believe my eyes. And im a chiefs fan. Ive always joked about the "raiders gonna raider", but that was just a crazy implosion.
A Greek tragedy!!!!!This not Raider football as I know it!!!!!?!
That last play should have been intentional grounding... Kind of dumb that they just let that slide. Should have been 4th and 58.
It’d be one thing if this was like 40+ years ago. It was a different game back then. But this like what, maybe 10 years ago?
I would have gone for it. First down on fourth and 48 would have went into the. NFL history books. If they didn't get it, they wouldn't have looked any worse than they already did
Honestly given the time of game left, probably should’ve punted on 2nd or 3rd down
Richard Pryor, the comedian could have gotten the first down.
One of the rare series where it would've pushed the Chiefs two yards farther back if they'd just turned the ball over on 1st down. 😆
What's insane is how the Chiefs easily won this game despite the resilience of the Raiders. Final score was 24-7.
I remember a University of Houston game where they punted on fourth and goal snapping from mid field.
Who else played Techmo Bowl and purposely ran back to your own 1 yard line so you could use Payton or Jackson and run 99 yards for a TD?
Chiefs fans must still be laughing about this today. Especially since it was against the Raiders 😂
The dark days (yes these days were bleak even by Raiders standards) after Jason Campbell but before Derek Carr.
Just win baby~ Al Davis must be rolling in his grave with the way his matchstick son with the absolute worst haircut on earth has handled his team, ahahahahahahaha!!
It sounds like the Raiders should have applied for Section 8 assistance
Prior was horrible. Didn’t understand what he was seeing
I was so wrong about Terrell Pryor. To this very day one of my friends still never let's me forget that.
Why didn’t they go for it on 4th down. That would have been epic
I was hoping they'd convert!
3rd and 48 is super uncommon. Only the raiders man
They should have faked punt it on 4th down, that would have shown them
This doesn’t qualify as a positive drive.
The Pats had 4th & 63 (from their own 9), not 61.
Pryor had more grass stains on his back than any other player
Hard to believe they was even in the game playing like that
Mid field to be careful you don't get a safety.
Only the Raiders
Sponsored by Subway for no good reason 😂
Of course it had to be the Raiders! Haha
And i thought it was tough being a bears fan🤷
Mahomes would still win the game
Cincinatti - 24 Buffalo - 17 -- 2:00 -- 4th
What could be worse than 3rd and 48?
The other team is 3rd and 48, and convert.
Ravens 4th and 29 in 2012 vs the Chargers. They don't make that, they're still going to the playoffs but they'd have gone to Houston, who knows what happens if they don't get to have a Ray Ray launch party
Most raiders thing ever
Terrell Pryor!! 👌🏽💪🏽
Cudve Run a Jerry Rice quick SLanT or a Screen Pass
I think Pryor has one of the longest runs in history. He could've just ran it.
Time for a fake punt
Coaches calling the plays has always been a failed experiment. On any given day a team will win, and a team will lose. Saying that the coach calling the plays made the difference for the winner, the same could be said for the loser. The Dolphins coach is the perfect example. Too cute for his own good 80% of the time.
What year was this?
Refs gave them a gift for not giving them a flag for intentional grounding on 3rd down. That should have been like 4th and 53 or so.
This clip was pretty pointless - reminds me to ONLY watch NFL clips from the NFL
Thank you for your comment, totally-not-an-NFL-employee.
@@danthemankhan 😂😂 Is still a pointless video - and I’m a NBA employee
🙏🏾✝️
3rd & 48????? What's the big deal???? From an idiotic
Lions fan 🏈🏈
Raiders in Reverse
LA tech had 3rd and goal for 93 yards against Mississippi state. Not NFL but still hilarious
Aww, they punted? Lame. Go for it, coach.
lolz
Hell I remember the raiders having one further with Aaron brooks throwing a backwards pass
Anything with Aaron Brooks doesn't count for "futility purposes", it's like steroids.
Could you imagine if he came in clutch and tied the game tho
what year was this the steelers were 0-4
Wow
