The military treats people of color poorly. There has been an active measure to trick most people of color into joining the reserves instead of active duty. You go through the same training, wear the same uniform, and get sent to fight during actual emergencies, but you get paid less and don't get anywhere near the same benefits as your white/active duty counterparts (who are just chilling in base most days and may even go through the whole war without firing their rifle).
The promotional system is also extremely biased. You can be have superior job knowledge, better skills, and seniority, but they'll still promote the white guy/girl over you anyways.
If you are one of the few people of color who make it into active duty, you will get treated horrendously because of the color of your skin.
If you have a darker skin tone and are thinking of serving your country, be very, very careful about what you are actually signing up for.

I think this is a problem with the army itself. By that I mean the fact that a majority of males lots either desperate or from poor income neighborhoods are being subjected to apathetic treatment for years on end without sexual contact on top adding toxic and ancient leadership is not a good environment. This is how the army is made since it's always old people in power with ancient work ethic and often backwards ideology so they'd rather keep quiet than raise alarms.

I figure if my soul is corrupted in the first two years then imagine what happens to other people. The military is a meat grinder for your soul. @@jamalwilburn228 I'd tell just about anybody to either not join the military at all, or if you do join the military, try to join the Air Force or the Coast Guard. YES, toxicity is STILL in those other branches too, but NOT QUITE THE SAME WAY as the Army.
As you said, leadership cares more about optempo, which for those who don't know, means more deployments and more times going to the field (which most people in the Air Force don't go to the field the same way as the Army. They DON'T). So that means the leadership wants more bodies there for numbers which makes their records look good for higher promotions. Combine this with the fact that while bad people exist in all branches of the military, the Army seems to have the least vetted people being allowed to serve as soldiers, so you're going to see a higher rate of Army soldiers who are literally criminals, gang members, drug dealers, etc. compared to other branches of the military. You got more likely chance bad stuff is going to happen with the Army, with the Army's "hoah" culture compared to another branches.
Then there's the area Fort Hood is, with Killeen Texas just being a terrible are with drugs and gangs, etc. Not a good situation.
So either just don't go in the military at all, or just join the Air Force or Coast Guard and stay the hell away from the Army and Marines. I bet you the Air Force isn't perfect, but doesn't have near the same problems the Army has, especially fort hood or fort bliss.

Also the Army is arguably the branch that lets just about anybody in, meaning you definitely will see more criminals (without too serious records) in the Army than the other branches. I'm sure there are bad people in the Air Force and Coast Guard and Navy too but they've been vetted more than so many people who join the Army.
