Its not really a double standard of Akshay, more like stating the norm in the film industry, all over India. For eg, Aamir plays a college student at 50yrs, but no actress of even 35 years will even be considered for a role like that.

Color discrimination is a sad reality of our society. It happens everytime. So much educated but still we face it. Not only in Bollywood in TV shows also we see fair actresses. If we leave entertainment industry, in other section also same thing happing. This is really very sad .
What a shame that Akshay commented on her skin color!!! This is what needs to change in our society! Commenting on people's height, color, weight is very standard conversation in our society.

She can be a heroine depending on the story of the movie. Akshay should never comment like he knows it all...even if she was dark she was more experienced than Akshay in acting as she said and he should respect her as co-star.
There is no hero or heroine without flaws including Akshay. If a lady jokes about him I bet his ego wouldn't let him work with her again. He knows she is his first co-star and she still looks great and is talented...he couldn't find one role for her after she met him and followed up professionally? Knowing how she lead her life with integrity and strength anyone will admire her and could he not reply or text her back or call her once in a while as a friend..this shows his nature and character. He might have been even jealous of her as her dancing skills were better than him and she was more experienced than him in his first film and so wanted to put her down some way. Akshay's fans should think deeper. Talent should be encouraged irrespective of color and gender.

I think Akshay should have treated her much better when she approached him for work. For all her smiles, you don’t know the hardships she has suffered with being a single mother of two children and trying to give them the best life. He has so many connections he could have got her work. If he can get Lara Dutta to play a stupid role in Singh is Blingh when she was clearly struggling to find work he could have got her a good supporting role.

For those who are finding Akshay's fault here : If she is saying she was v young at that time, so was Akshay , He might have said this as a joke ( which is of course wrong ) n might not have realised. She also never spoke about it to him after that. Akshay telling her that she cant play a heroine now - thats the fact and its not something made by Akshay. She was never such a big star that someone would write an author backed role for her. Only v few actresses from the 90s ( Madhuri, Tabu, Kajol , Karisma , Raveena ) are getting such roles coz they had a certain name and brand value . Shantipriya cant expect the same.

When I saw her the first time in chandra mohan's movie 'naku pellam kavali', I was totally smitten.. then I saw her in the movie 'maharshi' which was a super hit cult movie in telugu.. she rocked in both the movies.. became a big fan of her, but didn't get to see her much in telugu movies later.. she was really good.. one bad decision she made that is marriage.. married to the wrong person and that was the end of her career.. sad.. it's clear that she wanted to continue her career but didn't get any support or love from the partner..

Not defending akshay kumar but he knows how Bollywood industry works usne isse liye kaha hoga kyu ki woh bhi phele se iss time se gya hai in 90's one of the director said that "acting Karwana hai amir khan ko lo"."agar action karwana hai toh Akshay lo". And even some said Akshay kumar acting aur furniture dono same hai. He went through this in 90's yes used keep joking on others stars in set but to keep comfortable till Now he does this kind of jokes to his co-actors he though that they will be comfortable but sometimes it won't....

1) At one point of time - Shashi Kapoor had refused to act with Rekha becoz of her skin colour. His wife - Jennifer Kendall had to intervene to sort out the issue.
2) On his show - Kapil Sharma also commented negatively on Tanushree Dutta's skin colour - she walked out of his show!!!
3) In his early days - Mithun Chakraborty was always kept aside among actors due to his skin colour.
4) Bipasha Basu/ Kajol/ Ajay Devgan/ Rajnikant/ Sadashiv Amrapurkar/ Ashish Vidyarthi etc. are also dark skinned. They are all excellent actors.
When the South Indian people/ the Bengalis/ Odia/ Maharashtrains etc. are comfortable with their god given skin colour - what's the problem with the North Indian men???
BTW - a large percentage of North Indian people are also dark skinned!

In the olden days people in India would say - When god gave colour, he started from the North & by the time he reached the South - his hands were empty. So that's why South people are dark skinned. But when god gave brains, he started from the South & by the time he reached up North - his hands were empty!
This way, all of India was created equal by god!
5) No need to feel embarrassed - Madhuri Dixit/ Raveena Tandon/ Juhi Chawla etc. all had lots of pimples in their early films. Despite their caked up make up - everything was visible to the audience.
