What Beyoncé is doing is adding too many notes to a song about freedom. She's all over the place. It distracts from the song. It's not projection, it's not resonance, it's plain over singing. The entire performance was overdone. I didn't feel anything in the meaning of the song. Vocal acrobatics doesn't equal superiority. Mariah is the songbird supreme and the standard when it comes to runs. Her transitions are flawless and her tone is buttery.

It comes down to vocal agility for me, and that's more than just a few transitions and vibrato and runs, Beyonce I feel does too much with her vibrato, and excessive belts to sound powerful, and the tone wasn't as rich as we expect, but Mariah came to work with the supported low notes, subtle vibrato, run and melisma and beautifully supported belt and smooth transitions and the resonance was on point, and don't even get me started on the angelic whistle note, that's why Mariah wins

Mariah's version with the exception of two very unique parts was more mellow and traditional, and while no one cad the MC note (dude literally her note lol) overall I preferred Beyoncé 's rendition. If I count the number of chills and how moved I was I thoroughly enjoyed Beyoncé more. On a side note, both artist are incredible, is it really necessary to drag the one you least prefer? It seems so incredibly disrespectful to treat two divas who have so awesomely impacted music in such a poor way.
