    A couple extra points I should have made in the video - This is 100% made and Manufactured in Germany. The machine is also Hand Assembled and I did mention the ABS plastic - but - it also has a scratch resistant layer that is soft to the touch - and overall feels very premium - some folks have commented that it looks cheap - its def. NOT cheaply made. Also - it DOES fit in a typical Kallax shelf for storing when not using!

    If I could spend a grand for an ultrasound record cleaner I wouldn't have to reuse cleaning solution.
    That said, I've had great results with a manual Vinyl Styl (the Knosti record clamp looks very much like the Vinyl Styl) and the Spin Clean solution. I also like the tactile aspects of manual cleaning. But I'm also the guy that grinds my own coffee beans and brews the pour over and French press methods.
    I appreciate that you showed the unit flooding your table. It could be a design flaw or material shortcoming that can't withstand shipping. Maybe they could ship the units with the plugs not installed.
    Great review! Honesty is always king!

    Food for thought. If you have a vacuum cleaner with a turntable such as a ProJect to remove the excess water after running it through after cleaning.

  • @Madmart54
    @Madmart54 2 месяца назад

    I have the old manual Knosti DAS and am pleased with it after using my own choice of liquid-although I don’t believe it cleans right down into the pit of the groove. There was definitely a problem with Knosti’s first liquid brew.
    I started looking at Ultra Sonic cleaners a while ago and although wanting a Degritter I felt I couldn’t part with that much cash. It came down to a toss up between your unit shown and the relatively good priced Humming Guru. Lo and behold out came the Nova which swayed me. I like it that the Nova has a fitted tank with a simple filter for the liquid which can be reused-no need for a bottle. On the other hand the Knosti recycles the fluid whilst in use which I think is a great idea.
    With the HG you can just put an LP in without a clamp(adjustments for 7” etc). Upon using my HG yesterday for the first time, I was impressed to see opaque bubbles on the vinyl-telling myself how much better a cleaning job it was doing over my manual Knosti. My smile somewhat lowered when I saw similar bubbles continuing to go round and round getting ready for the internal fans to dry them 🤔. I think your machine with the brushes would have helped and what with the constant filtering. Mmm-so what’s the score so far? After my magnificent cleaning session of 3 cleanish LPs I believe they sounded cleaner (pardon the pun) and nothing untoward regarding those bubbles. If I can’t sleep at night I could always just use my manual Knosti now as a rinse bath(then I’d worry about how dirty the rinse water is-not wanting to change it all the time). The record could then go back in the HG for a dry. I need to find a really dirty album to fully test it but I’m pleased with my decision so far. I think if the features of the two machines could be combined it would be the ultimate machine 🙂.
    As a footnote to those who worry about wet labels I have only had a problem once with my machines. I think some people think the water sheets down the record from top to bottom but it tends to stay put in the grooves. I did have a problem once with my original Knosti DAS when the newer model came out with O rings in the clamp. I had some O rings and as the original clamp had grooves I put them in. How it happened exactly I’m not sure, but the label got wet and so I removed them and then all was well. A bit mind boggling as you think water will creep under the clamp but if you don’t overfill , it doesn’t 🙂.

    Question: while air drying, do you risk the solution dripping over the label?

    • @PiecesofVinyl
      @PiecesofVinyl  2 месяца назад +1

      No not if you set the water to the correct level. If you set it right - which is marked - the water doesn’t even get for the runout groove. And then when it dries, it runs along the grooves. I only had issues when I put too much water in the tub.

  • @laurabraniganforever-matty7613

    I think a more important comparison would be first cleaning the record with a basic method like a brush / spray and an antistatic brush and seeing how much this could improve upon that. When the record is visually coated in dust no matter how you clean it its going to sound better after. I'm more interested to know is it better than the way 99% of people clean a record.

    I used a 10L unit for years. I found certain fluids definitely needed a rinse, others don't. Tergikleen, Triton x100 definitely do. I found that Ilfotol and G-sonic by groovewasher do not require a rinse.
    Now I'm back to solely using my Pro-ject RCM with a three step process.
    Edit: commented before the price reveal. That price is STEEP. My record Doctor IV, Pro-ject VC-S2 ALU and Vinylstack 10L ultrasonic system didn't cost that much combined. It'd be really interesting how that one compares to the $500 Humminguru

    There might be other comments to this general effect, but @PiecesofVinyl does Knosti say there is a specific benefit to air drying the records with the cleaning fluid on them? Or if preferred, could you just wipe with a microfiber or even stick it on a vacuum RCM real quick to dry it? Thanks for your thorough reviews.

    • @l_f_berg
      @l_f_berg 3 месяца назад

      As an aside, the relentlessly thorough Paul Rigby (The Audiophile Man) apparently decided to remove the rubber rings from the clamps, with blessings from Knosti, to solve the suction problem that makes removing them a hassle.

    • @PiecesofVinyl
      @PiecesofVinyl  3 месяца назад

      You certainly could go to a vacuum after the cleaning however on my vacuum setup the record sits on a platter so one side would be totally wet when I put it down. I actually thought about doing this. I would not wipe with a microfiber as that would make it dirty again.

    Hey, once again, great video! So, if I understood correctly, you can’t clean a 7" single and then a 12" record afterward because of the difference in the height of the cleaning solution? Based on my experience with the Degritter, which also has a filter, I wouldn’t reuse the water, as many particles aren’t fully filtered out, making the rinse process essential every time. How many records did you clean with one tank filling-four? So, will you continue using the machine to clean your 7" records in the future? What about for your 12" records?

    • @PiecesofVinyl
      @PiecesofVinyl  3 месяца назад

      Hey! Thanks for watching and great to hear from you! I still have a record for you - will contact you outside of here. For clarification I could have probably cleaned both with the same level of water if I was a little more careful on getting it right for both. The most I have cleaned on one tank is 8 LPs but they were new records. I was able to do almost 25 45s on one tank - some new and some used. And it worked great. This will be how I clean most of my 7” records in the future. I have been using this for LPs too - and it’s much better than using the vacuum I was using - but that still works good too. Lots of options!

However - there is a level on RUclips of a "sponsored" video - go and watch many tech reviews - they will often say a company has sent them a product for review - but they are not a sponsor - but the video might indeed have a separate sponsor (usually square space). Those sponsorships are where the company involved actually PAYS anywhere from $500-$5000 for a video. There is obviously bias since the company has reached out with the product and I accepted it - but - I would not review products on my channel I would not stand behind or recommend.
