    And do you build their website on a Squarespaces free trial? Or do you pay for the site at the beginning?

    Hi david, loved the video. That tip with loom was great! I have a question tho. Say im building a wordpress website for a client, for example a website for their coffeshop. Do you think is it better to show them few themes which i think would fit their needs and let them pick one(for some reason it feels unprofessional to me), or should i choose theme myself, risking they wont like it at all and loosing a lot of progress ? Thank you in advance for your insight !

    • @meetdavidalex
      @meetdavidalex  Год назад +1

      Great question Jakub! In my starter questionnaire - I'll ask the client 2 questions:
      1. Send me 1-3 websites for inspiration. Sites you want to emulate - and if there are speciific things you like about the site, let me know!
      2. Take a look at the Squarespace templates, send me 1-2 names that really stick out to you.
      These 2 questions can save you sooooo much time! First, it lets you really know what the client actually wants. If everything they send you is different, then they don't know. If everything they send you is similiar, you have a sure fire win. If they send you huge websites like Nike or Amazon, the expectations are unrealistic. These two questions will save you so much effort!

    You truly went above & beyond in this video and it is massively appreciated.
    I've unfortunately been giving my clients early access in order to build some items on the website. Like adding in product listings or subscriptions, I need their payment methods & an actual Squarespace subscription correct? I thought I had limited abilities on the free trial. Am I missing something? Are you adding in eCommerce/product listings during the (6 month) free trial somehow or covering their subscription until you are ready to transfer ownership?
    Thank you so much for your time & insight.

    Hey David, love your videos :D! You've helped me so much already. I am struggling a bit with the process of connecting the site to an already existing domain owned by my customers (btw I am a designer). The few times I had to do it I always had the client give me their login details to (for example) ionos and then connected the site to their domain. I always felt weird asking my clients for log in details. Do you know if there's another way to do this? Or is this okay and a good way to do it? Thank you son much for your amazing work!!!

  • @KimyPops95

    David, thanks so much for this in depth process explainer! It's super helpful!👏Quick Question! I've been using Wordpress to create websites however I've been wanting to switch over to SquareSpace, BUT I'm unsure of how to go about starting a website for a client on SS seeing as SS only offers a 14 day trail. Do I use the deposit I receive from the client to create an account / pay the first month of the plan while working on the SS site and then once the design is approved and I've received the final payment, I then transfer the ownership to the client and have them update the billing info so that all future payments are billed to them? I know you've mentioned the SS Circle Member in one of your videos, however I've never created a website on SS before so I don't think that option would work for me right now. OR do you have the client create a SS account which would then have their billing info and then you log in and design from there. Going this route, is it not risky? As they’d have access and could potentially not pay you at the end? Hope that makes sense!

    • @meetdavidalex
      @meetdavidalex  Год назад

      Makes complete sense. My recommendation is to become a circle member asap. It's too risky like you said to do it through their account. If you are getting paid well, it should only cost you around $50 to get started. Also you can email me and I can start the site for.you and you will get six months out the gate hello@launchhappy.co

    I've learned from others to absolutely have a signed agreement so the client can't try to chargeback later. I knew someone who did not have a signed contract/agreement and the day after the handoff, the client did a PP chargeback and the developer lost $5k in the dispute.

    I looked at your Discovery Call Questionnaire and wanted to know what you do in the situation of a client telling you they don’t have a logo, colors, or fonts. Do you create that yourself? If so, how and what program do you use? Or, do you outsource that to someone else? Do you charge the client for that? If so, how much? I want to design Squarespace sites and can only make very standard logos on Canva and I have limited experience with their colors and fonts. My concern is that if I decided to take care of these items myself that the client won’t like them or that I won’t know how to execute the type of logo they’re wanting on Canva since I’m not professionally trained in graphic design. Thanks for your help and for such an informative video for us newbies on the block!

      Hi Rosemary! I came across your comment and thought I'd answer what I do.
      This is a great opportunity to connect with a brand designer. Branding is not my jam, so I like to refer clients to brand designers I've worked with and trust (they pay for this on their own). This way, when they get website design inquiries, I'm top-of-mind and they'll likely refer them to me for their project. 😉
      I highly recommend building a network of referrals for this type of stuff (branding, copywriting, etc.). It will build great working relationships and not make you feel like you need to do it all.
      Good luck in your new design business!

      Hey! I'm going to make a video on this soon - but at the moment, I'd say: It depends. Each client is different and depends how much content you are writing. I would imagine it would be about 1/3 the price of the project. So if the website build is $3k, I'd charge around $1k for the content.
