Good one boys It's interesting to note, that The Beatles kept on saying how these guys were such a major influence on both their songwriting and especially on their entire vocal approach. Over the years, they repeatedly mentioned how hard they worked on trying to sound just like them, with this really close two-part vocal harmony sound. If you think about it, that may be the very essence of the Beatle sound itself, that two-part vocal sound. Simon and Garfunkel said almost the same thing. So these dudes weren't just some flash in the pan. They were a very important foundational piece of what would come after in so many ways. I thought your comments on the lyrics and guitar work were spot on too! Keep up the great work gents!

The Everly Brothers were a HUGE influence on just about every band that came after them, including the Beatles, Beach Boys, and their contemporaries. It's a myth that it was banned in Boston. I grew up five miles north of Boston and it got tons of airplay on all the major radio stations. The city never banned the song. What actually happened was that the Cardinal Cushing, the Archbishop of Boston, did attempt to stop radio stations from playing the song, taking out full page ads in Boston newspapers condemning the song. His campaign against the song actually had little effect. I listened mostly to the four biggest stations that played top 40 hits and none stopped playing the song. I did learn later that there were less than a handful of smaller local stations in eastern Massachusetts that did actually stop playing it, and a few disc jockeys that refused to play it on their shows, but that was voluntary, the song was never banned anywhere in the Boston area or in Massachusetts.

The Everly Brothers' harmonies were a huge influence on the music of the 60s. The Beatles, Jan & Dean, The Byrds, and most obviously Simon & Garfunkel were heavily indebted to their sound. "Bye Bye Love" and "All I Have to Do is Dream" are two more Everlys classics. Late on in their career the Everlys toured with Simon and Garfunkel and appeared with them onstage... which given the history of squabbling between both duos must have been an interesting time! RIP Don and Phil Everly.

I first heard the Everly Brothers in 1957 when I was ten years old and I am now 77 and still listening to them. Listen to some '80s Everlys, including their cover of Mark Knopfler's "Why Worry." Or their great ballad from earlier, "Let It Be Me." Don and Phil were incredible singers and musicians and their influence can be heard in many acts that followed, like Simon & Garfunkel, Tom Petty and more.

So let me first say, I was a massive Everly Brothers fan from a baby. I’m that old. Born in 1955 and would sing this song on demand for anyone anywhere at the tender age of two/three years old. HAHA! You need to take a deep dive into their catalog because these guys influenced everyone. Their harmonies, as brothers, were unmatched. An example being Cathy’s Clown which still gives me chills to this day whenever I hear it. They were there from the beginning and their music still holds up today.

These brothers ( actual brothers) influenced so many later groups, including the Beatles, Simon and Garfunkel, plus their songs have been covered by The Who, Nazereth, The Rolling Stones, and others.
They split for about ten years, then got back together again in the early '80's and put out more albums.
Always Drive A Cadillac, is a beauty from that era.
My daughter was a professional singer and has always loved these guys..."Dad, no one harmonizes like The Everly Brothers!" I got to be a huge fan, back when I was around 10, at the start of their career. Yup, I am an old fart...lol!
By the way, I love your reactions better than others, because you are musicians and know what you are talking about, keep up the good work.
Other songs they did in the '50's and early '60's were Claudette, Bird Dog, That's Old Fashion, Lucille, Hey Doll Baby, Rip It Up, Temptation, So Sad, Til I Kissed Ya, Problems, and many others.

When I was little my dad was out to sea quite a bit (27 years USN), and my mom would always have music playing in the house. One of the albums she played was an Everly Brothers greatest hits album. Apparently after they broke up and spent several years apart, they got back together in the 60s and re-recorded all their hits -- and that's the album she played. While I'm a fan of original 50s songs, the re-recorded Everly Brothers songs are soooooo smooth, and their harmonies benefit from the updated equipment. It is one of the first albums I downloaded when digital downloads became mainstream, and I listen to it regularly. The whole album is so good. If you're feeling squirrely, check out Cathy's Clown. Thank you, Mom, for the gift of music!!!!!! And thank you, Andy and Alex for being open to reacting to something like this. That's what makes you guys the best! [cool story, bro, right?]

It wasn't that the kids were doing anything wrong. They were at a drive-in-movie theater on a date. The movie was exceptionally boring and they both fell asleep. He woke up in a panic. It was 4 in the morning and the theater was empty. How in the world was he going to explain that to her parents, not to mention the teasing they knew they were going to get from their friends. I grew up in the 50's-60's. Things like that happened. In fact it happened to my wife and I on our second date, although it was in a movie theater house not a drive in theater. The movie was so boring that we both fell asleep and woke up as the lights came up and people started getting up to leave the theater at the end of the movie. Anyway, this is a classic from the early years of rock and roll. Thanks for reacting to it.
