@@Hybridog Bullshit. Petrol cars are hopelessly obsolete as they are expensive and complicated to fuel, maintain and service. All of the American, Japanese and European legacy car companies are in the midst of a death spiral they cannot ease itself from.
In China, the world’s largest and most important car market, EVs and PHEVs make up more than 50% of all new car sales and this will increase to 80% by December 2025. The rest of the world, America notwithstanding, will follow suit within a few years.
It goes without saying that 94% of the world’s population are _not_ American, Japanese nor German, so most consumers do not have an inherent loyalty with legacy car companies as the nationalistic aspect is not relevant. Simply put, most of the world could not care less if the entire legacy car factory workforce lost their jobs tomorrow.

2: If t-Rump gets elected the EV issues is the least of your worries.
    3. I get a kick out of VW. They are operating on the old model. Meaning they can't or will not bring out a new car model until 2028 or 2029. So your still looking at a 4 or 5 year development time. Yet the Tech has about a 9 month development time. While I realize this is a bit quick 5 year development time will spell death to VW as BYD only needs 18 months.
I really like the electric subsiding.

As a German I'm glad my government pulled the plug on national EV subsidies. Last year 524,000 new BEVs were registered in Germany, but the BEV fleet only grew by 400,000 (from 1.0 to 1.4 million BEVs). So where did 120,000 BEV go within one year? Setting national subsidies in an EU-wide car market doesn't make sense at all. Why should the German taxpayer pay for lower used car prices in the Netherlands or Denmark? Another argument against subsidies are fleet emission in the EU. Car groups like VW or Stellantis doesn't want to sell more EV, the are maximizing profits within EU and national regulation. If they have to sell more BEVs, they'll introduce lower priced variants (like VW did now with a new ID.3 Pure) or give discounts on certain models. And premium companies like BMW or Mercedes are still selling as much BEVs as last year in Germany. Highest decline in sales this year we see by Stellantis, Renault and Tesla. So especially in Germany one might ask, if BEV sales are really down because of lower subsidies or companies selling/leasing less cars to fleet operators because of the decline in resell values of used BEVs.

I asked ChatGPT and this is what it said:
Several vehicles sold in the United States are assembled in China. Here are some examples:
      1. **Buick Envision**: General Motors imports the Buick Envision SUV from China. It was one of the first mainstream vehicles to be sold in the U.S. that was manufactured in China.
      2. **Volvo S90**: The Volvo S90 sedan is assembled in China and sold in the U.S. This is part of Volvo's strategy after being acquired by Chinese automaker Geely.
      3. **Polestar 2**: The Polestar 2, an electric vehicle, is assembled in China. Polestar is a Volvo-owned brand that focuses on electric cars.
      4. **Cadillac CT6 Plug-in Hybrid**: This hybrid vehicle was assembled in China and sold in the U.S., though it was discontinued in 2018.
      5. **Certain Tesla Model 3 Units**: Some Tesla Model 3 vehicles that are assembled in China have been exported to the U.S., particularly during times of increased demand.
The trend of importing Chinese-assembled vehicles has been growing as automakers expand their global production capabilities.

Well the legacy auto makers can only blame themselves for failing. Other than Tesla, the rest are half hearted and not one of them has yet to present a 'compelling' EV, or produced any where near the numbers they said they would. But the fact is you have to produce a car people are willing to buy. Tesla is really the only one which qualifies.
