I watched the whole dinner. Trevor roasted everyone else first and then he destroyed the pompous right wing . He held nothing back and I loved it! Trevor, who knew?
When he was ushered in almost unceremoniously like that, with the guy before him being so big, respected, and well known --- with the format tailored by him, for him --- I thought a little known, young comedian from SA wasn't going to last more than a year or so... because the show is so iconic a through-and-through American show (roasting Americans, left and right and center... and he's NOT an American, as a recent arrived immigrant from SA).
I knew he's gifted at being funny; but I wasn't sure how he'd deliver jokes about Americans, when he's not one...
I am glad to have been proven totally wrong. Trevor turned out to be an exceptionally quick study. But more important, he's able to weave, seamlessly, his own immigrant angle into the show...as an immigrant, a quintessential part of what an "American" really is all about, from the first pilgrims at James Town to all of us who've arrived only in the last 1 tp 50 years...
