Jackie chan... the legend in our times

  • @SaikeeKonosukeLuc
    @SaikeeKonosukeLuc Год назад +26

For me there are 6 legends of Asian martial artists movies:
Bruce Lee- He brought to America the culture of Chinese martial art. Very serious in his acting and a proficient fighter.
He opens the eyes of the world to how amazing martial art is.
Jackie Chan - He brought something new to martial art movies. He brought a unique sense of comedy and has the most incredible stunts in any videography history.
I will always appreciate how funny and serious he got in Drunken Master 1 & 2.
Jet Li - He had something very mythical in his acting. He has this amazing silent look in Danny the Dog. The profile of a pro martial artist almost looks like a monk.
Having portrayed some of the most iconic martial artists such as Huo Yuanjia in Fearless.
Donnie Yen - While many thought the idea of 'Americanizing' every Chinese movie was the only way back in the golden age to broaden the audience.
With the mindset of people changing with age, Donnie gave us a vision of how Chinese movies can truly be appreciated internationally in Ip Man.
Tonnie Jaa - Chinese movies became popular, but was it the most brutal? Tonnie Jaa brought to the screen how incredibly brutal and exciting Muay Thai is.
He brought something fresh to martial art movies as well as being an amazing stuntman.
Michael Jai White - This guy is a multiple black belt 3rd Degree Karate Jiu Jitsu. So he is not just acting. Movies such as Never back down shows underground fight,
even so, he remains true to his Karate style high posture kicks and punches and lethal submission moves.

My favourite Jackie Chan movie.... that's a hard question. I don't really have a favorite, just some that I like more than others. The first Jackie Chan movie I ever saw was "Project A" when it was on Dutch tv in 1997 or 1998. I loved all the fight scenes but specifically the first bar fight (macaroni!). The next week they were showing "First Strike". I almost spat out my drink at the Koala underwear. The ladder fight at the funeral home, when you look at it closely, many hand (and finger) prints can be seen on the top floor which shows that he had done that scene many times over. I also LOVE the fight with all the blue doors in "Mr. Nice Guy". And on "Accidental Spy" when the woman asks him "what do you see?" And he replies "Watermelon" because they had just driven through a market and there where watermelons on the front window of the car/truck. Btw the name of Yuen Biao is pronounced as Yuen Bioo (the "ioo" pronounced as "you"). When Jackie was making "Project A" and was thinking of including a bycicle chase he was told that Steven Spielberg was also using a bycicle or bycicles in "ET" so he was about to skip the bycicle chase. So, when "ET" was released he and his team went to watch it. They were of course very happy that "ET"'s bycicle part was nothing like what they had in mind for their movie, so they were very happy to include it into their movie.
About the making of "Police Story" (and especially the scene where Jackie slides down the pole with all the lights on it) the electricity on the lights was supposed to be of low power so that it would look good but Jackie would not get hurt. But the light technician did something wrong so the lights on the pole were on full power. So Jackie got real electricity shocks and burns.
On "Who Am I?" where he was fighting Ron Smoorenburg, Ron Smoorenburg had so much trouble fighting like the Jackie Chan Stunt Team, that they eventually replaced him with Brad Allen who was a member of the stunt team. Brad was wearing the same outfit that Ron had been wearing, and they managed to make the fight look like Jackie was still fighting Ron Smoorenburg. Which I think is a huge effort. Because Ron Smoorenburg was 6'2" (1.88m) and Brad Allen was 5' 1/4" (1.63m) Sadly Brad Allen died on August 7th 2021 at the young age of 48.
I know of many more trivia and references, but it's 3.45 AM here in Holland. So if you want to read more, let me know!

Also encouraged his acting partners to do their own stunts and showed them how. It's great he just doesn't show up for a pay check or credit. Humble man with amazing talent. I learned about him when I was young (born in 1971) before Rush Hour and all his more main stream films. Always loved his action scenes/stunts. I also like his comedic work better than his serious stuff. Funny seeing a guy you know can do the trick perfect, but purposely feints an error and makes faces and body motions of pain. He is a legend to me.

Kung Fu. Parkour. Comedy. Acting. The four nations lived together in harmony, but everything changed when the Parkour Nation attacked. Only the Avatar, master of all four elements, can stop them, but when the world needed him the most, he vanished. A decade later, a new Avatar has been discovered, a kung fu master named Jackie Chan. Although his death-defying martial arts skills are great, he has a lot to learn before he’s ready to save anyone, but we believe Jackie can save the world.

Please stop perpetuating the myth he does his own stunts, he doesn't honestly, there's another video on youtube exposing this pretty much.

I want him to act as an grandpa of chinese family living in US... I want to see a vulnerable side of him in acting, something heartfelt, warm, kinda slice of life movie... He is a great actor, but I want to see him in a "mainstream" kinda story.

I would run around mimicking the moves and noise mis movie and he would be there supporting the antics 😂 will always be a memory I’ll never forget and hopefully make it a tradition with my own kids

Most of us grew up watching Jackie Chan movies. As they rightly say, not every Chinese is Jackie Chan.. so true. There is ONLY one Jackie Chan. Legend. My fav movie is Police Story and Who am I.

Here's one not movie related: Dragon Ball creator Akira Toriyama was an admirer of Jackie Chan (and viceversa, Chan was a fan of the Dr. Slump and Dragon Ball mangas) and Toriyama based the "Jackie Chun" identity Muten Roshi adopts to participate in the martial arts tournaments on Chan (they have met in person too)

I am beyond amazed at his accomplishments. And I am very curious as to whether my eyes & memory are tricking me or not, his stunts loo familiar to those of Tom Cruise. And since his movies where before Tom Cruise, does it mean, Tom has been copying & never given credit, or even spoken to be inspired by Jackie? Wow!...Really would love someone else take on this, because I see a lot of similarities

Almost any action film that tries to improvise like that is a direct link to Jackie Chan's work. That's why he's such a historical icon.
