Not to mention that the change on his body happened DURING the shootings. On his first fight with Clubber Lang he showed pretty much the same body type he had in Rocky 2, but as the character trained harder and harder for the rematch, so did the actor, and the change is stunning.

You should do video of Dolph Lundgren. He changed physique quite a lot between movies. Sometimes looking like a huge bodybuilder, sometimes looking like a lean athlete. He usually preferred being slimmer for better stamina and quickness when training martial arts, then gain weight temporarily for the movies if needed to look bulky.

Stallone's autobiography is mostly focused on his workouts for the big movies. It reads like:
When I decided to make First Blood, Rambo was a new character who had been through a lot, so I wanted him to have a really unique body. So I began pushing myself hard in the gym, two workouts a day, 20 cups of espresso, and only one meal a day with a little bit of protein and veggies in the morning.
Then it was time for Rocky III, and I wanted Rocky to have a body like never before. So I decided to REALLY push myself hard, lifting weights, running, and sparring for eight rounds a day. I also drank 25 cups of espresso a day and ate nothing but fish and some greens.
Up next was Rambo: First Blood Part II, and Rambo had been in prison breaking rocks for years, so he needed a physique to match. So I began training REALLY REALLY hard, lifting weights, running, drinking 30 cups of espresso a day and I ate nothing but one piece of burnt toast and a can of tuna (low-sodium!) per day.
Rocky IV was my next film, and.....

Sorry but you're slightly wrong about the torn peck, it wasn't due to the amount he was training. It was due to a bench press accident with Franco columbo but was during filming of rocky 2, that's why they wrote into the script that he had to fight like a right handed fighter

I read Stallone's book _Sly_ _Moves_ a long time ago. He is open about using HGH in the book at the current time he wrote it, extolls its benefits, and laments the lack of availability to the common man who is getting older. I don't recall if he specified when he started using it, but he does say other than that he was natural. Regardless, he had a supernatural work ethic. During the post Rocky II / Rambo period all the way to Rocky IV, he was spending most of his time training, and as you noted, it was way too much. In the book he acknowledges that he was probably actually hindering himself, but that was just kind of what they thought worked at the time. His mom actually owned a gym so he had been lifting since he was a kid, longer than most people assume. Ultimately, I think if you've got the discipline to maintain essentially a starvation diet and work like he did over the course of several years, you can certainly _reach_ a physique like Rocky III, but not keep at that peak for long.
The book is actually quite good if you are interested in the details of how Stallone's career progressed and how he was training at any given point, and he has a solid long - term training and diet plan largely geared toward men who are getting older, which is based on his lessons learned over his career, so it isn't an insane grind like what he used to do. It also has some nice stuff like how to train for aesthetics that work well with a body that is getting a bit less compact with age. I recall the diet plan still being pretty hard for me to pull off, even though it was a far cry better than oatmeal and rice flour cookies and tuna. Overall, it has sort of provided a basis for my training for about 15 years, and if you are a Stallone fan and can find it cheap (I don't think it is in print anymore), it is worth a read. He even almost had me sold on the HGH, but not too long after reading the book I saw Rocky Balboa and the first new Rambo movie, and his massive head and giant mitts made me decide to hold off on that maybe until I am in nearing my 70s.

Stallone is lucky to be alive after what he put himself through. His diet with this level of workout was insanity. He must have a heart made of steel to be able to put himself through that and not be facing cardiac or other health problems. According the Franco Stallone was not on steroids when he trained him, but its pretty well known that he takes hgh.

It's safe to assume any Hollywood actor will be USING. Since they need size FAST. Don't have years to do it at a safe pace while on the "right diet". Lots of the PRO's were took over a decade to get where they were. Guys like Mike O'Hearn began lifting weights when he was I htink 9? Add great genetics....and I think some HELP along the way....He's not in his early 50's....looking better than most guys in their 20s...and put on even more mass weighing around 300 pounds...
Stallone. Having Columbo in his corner....HUGE advantage. Saves him time and prevents him from getting it wrong. Having a legendary bodybuilder help him. ANd He USED....you can see the difference in photos and video of him between shooting scenes for Rambo 2...one day he'd be jacked....in other potos he looks almost "plain"...someone who just began workout at hte gym. He had HELP. Why not admit it?
Lots of amateur bodybuilders don't even hide it. They ask questions on certain RUclips channels on how to dose. What to take. Some take it in the open.
For Stallone all this pain obviously paid off. Worth around 500M. :) Set for several lilfetimes are are his family.

3:40 no that’s incorrect. He injured his heart in Rocky for because he ordered Dolph Lundgren to rail him in the chest at full force, and he wanted them to actually do unscripted boxing Dolph Lundgren at the time being over 6 feet, and a martial arts expert almost killed him by hitting him like that, causing him to get a swollen heart and end up in the ICU for nine days 😮

Not sure where your info came from for the narration of this clip, but 1st up no way Stallone's body fat was 2.9% during that film, Helmut strebyl is around that and is absolutely shredded, Stallone wasn't anywhere near that,.
2nd point, chest & peck tears are usually occur because of steroid use , muscle grows way faster than the surrounding tendon strength and coincides with his heart issues, he was also busted in Sydney with a boat load of roids and was all over the media around that time, and lastly there is no way Franco would have ever put him on that diet whilst bodybuilding.

    • @ParisDemers

@@ParisDemers this whole I was 2.9 bodyfat BS is truthfully from everything I have ever studied scientifically close to an impossible fat level. 5-6 percent is more reasonable as the truth, and i myself always have nice abs at 10 percent, yes TEN percent bodyfat. That is all you need to look cut. 10 percent. (a 6 pack, a nice bicep vein, forearm veins, and lots of cuts all over.) LOL ...and most importantly... a healthy body at that level... a healthy 'vegan' body. But that is a story for another thread.

He never should’ve left the physique he had in the first two Rocky movies.
He looked like a real heavyweight boxer with power. In Rocky 3 and 4 he looks like a ripped middleweight with lots of oil to make his muscles shine.
I don’t think he juiced. I think he starved himself and lost lots of pure muscle.

His physique in the first two went along fine with his gritty looks in general. He lived in a worn down neighborhood, training in warn out clothes with holes and permanent sweat stains in the groin, he was an underdog compared to the bigger, leaner, better looking champ. So Rocky's physique was focused 100% on functional strength rather than looking pretty and ripped. He needed that extra layer of fat to survive the harsh weather conditions in his apartment.
