      Haha, if I didn't have a conscience I'd be recommending GM SUV's to every one of my customers, but...I do like most of their platforms, but for some reason their SUV's are troublesome.

    I got spray coolant leaking marks over the engine. The fan comes on intermin. No check engine light. No Onstar warning on my phone. The leak is near the coolant resevoir tank. Shoots toward the battery. Not sure where its coming from. Hearing hissing and small bubbling noise. The coolant was mid in the tank. Filled it up and leaks very slowly. Its 2020 chevy trax LT. Just can figure where the leaks at. At 50k miles. Bubbles on the resevoir tank. Checked the engine oil. Its clean. No murkey or milky look.

      @JimmyMakingitwork  3 месяца назад +1

      Often a small crack in the plastic coolant lines that run to the tank. Occasionally also the coolant housing by the cylinder head. A pressure tester might help, from Amazon or a parts store. Just do it with the engine cold.

    • @Hey_its_Koda
      @Hey_its_Koda 3 месяца назад

      Got it checked and fixed. It was a leaking hose to the coolant resevoir. The mechanic pulled out the resevoir with whole new one. Leak fixed. What sucks about the car is there is no temp gauge to say its overheating. Car runs smooth now.

      Check the connection at the top of the water outlet. It connects the reservoir to the water outlet. Right at the top of the water outlet. It is known to decay and break. Spraying coolant all over the battery and the interior of your hood top.

    I had one of these a while back,couldn’t get a leak on pressure test so I assumed the thing overheated from a thermostat,went to vacuum fill it and it sucked air in like crazy from the water pump seal,lesson learned.

    I guess i got lucky 2019 traxx at 104k and no major issues. Oil changes on time every time. New plugs, flush and fill coolant, new brakes, and new tires....you have got to do your maintenance.

    Multiple repairs on my 2016 Chevy Trax. The PCV went bad, and it's built into the valve cover. When the PCV went out there is a diaphragm in the intake manifold which pulled out. New intake manifold, new brakes and tires (Normal maintenance), HVAC hot and cold damper cable broke, several of the vacuum lines fell apart when removing the Intake manifold. Replaced the coil pack not long ago. Now I think my water pump is bad. It seems to be pumping intermittently. I replaced the thermostat and the temperature control unit. It worked for a few days and now its overheating again. The oil change light keeps coming on when the high temp light comes on. I changed the oil a few days ago so I know it's good.

      Works for me. A water pump was the first big job I ever did on my own car because I was a penniless student. Bought a socket set and a rebuilt pump on an early Opel, when engines had no chips and there was room in the engine bay. I admire your tenacity and resilience and ingenuity when it comes to fishing around in tight spaces and getting the job done. All my best

    How do or do u need to u purge the system

    • @JimmyMakingitwork
      @JimmyMakingitwork  2 года назад +1

      These are usually good about air in the cooling system and it rises out fairly well. It's important to let it warm up watching the temp gauge, listen for the fan to turn on and then off again. If there is air it will not turn off and the gauge will continue to rise, then the fan will go to high speed. At that point turn it off, let it cool a bit and recheck the level, it should be good after topping it off again.
      Usually it doesn't happen though and is good to go.

      @JimmyMakingitwork so you are saying fan should come on. To cool it. Correct? And then shut off. And if the fan does not shut off. Then obviously it's overheating?

    I have a 2020 no leaks replaced thermostat . But only when I go over 80 mph it overheats how often can a cts give a hot reading ?

    • @JimmyMakingitwork
      @JimmyMakingitwork  2 года назад +1

      That sounds like some kind of airflow restriction, or a missing air guide or duct?
      Overheating is hard on any engine and there is no formula for how often it will get by. There are usually protection modes in most modern vehicles that limit speed and turn off cylinders trying to keep temps down. I would definitely stay under overheating temp until it is repaired.
      2020 should have a warranty?
