This is a great introductory resource. Thanks for putting this out.
Been smashing your videos over the past few days as i prepare for my first foray into home assistant 😂
Glad you're finding them useful!
Thanks for the overview. That several companies are developing Zigbee was new to me.
A well presented and very clear guidance video. Thanks
amazing video, thank you!!
Thanks for enlightening us.
You are most welcome!
Thanks! you can benefit more from this video than its length 👍
I have a Home Assistant install that is communicating with a Phillips Hue bridge. Can that bridge communicate with non-Hue Zigbee devices? If so, are there any benefits to switching to a USB Zigbee dongle?
Can the Wiser Schneider Electric Zigbee Hub be connected to Zigbee Tuya, Zigbee Bardi, etc.?
I haven't been able to finish the vid, so this may well be explained:
Do the manufacturers of all of the smart devices need to be the same? For example, if I purchase an Aqara hub to control my Aqara blinds, can I run other Zigbee devices from other manufacturers using the Aqara hub?
Thank you
Nice vids.
I have a question, when product says/advertises "Zigbee 3.0", but within app the latest update says 2.4, is that considered still Zigbee 3.0?
Excellent primer. I feel like less of a luddite after just a few minutes
Great video, very informative thanks. My first home automation was a Hue hub and Hue lampswhich I still use. I am about to install a Conbee 2 USB device in my Home Assistant, should I remove my Hue lights from the Hue hub, set them up with the Conbee device and then disconnect the Hue hub or is it OK to have 2 Zigbee coordinators running? Thanks.
If you're going to move permanently to the Conbee I'd remove them from Home Assistant and re add them. It's fine to run two whilst you're testing, but the two Zigbee networks might interfere with each other longer term
If you have a device paired with hue is there a benefit to deleting from the hue bridge or can you have it connected to HA through the hue bridge? Thanks
You can definitely have it connected to HA through the Hue bridge.
The benefit for me from connecting it directly is that Hue no longer gets told every time I turn on and off the light and I can remove myself from their online ecosystem.
But functionality wise it's basically the same. I had my Hue bridge connected to HA for months before I took the plunge and paired my lights directly, nothing wrong with it at all!
Great video. Quick question, does the Zibee dongle need to be connect directly to the pi's USB port running HA or can the dongle be connected to any USB device?
It needs to be connected to the Pi running HA
Thank you bud
Thanks
Thank you so much!
I wonder, what plug-in / add-on are you using for showing the zigbee network map? And where to find it. Thanks in advance
You can find it in the Map section of both Zigbee2MQTT and ZHA
I have two Sonoff 3.0 Zigbee Dongle plus'...one I am using, and one is still in its box and never been touched. I have reached 25 devices on the current SZD+ and notice that I'm not able to add more devices. I'm trying avoid flashing the current SZD+ to give it the ability to add more devices because it seems like quite a pain.....is it possible for me to plug in the 2nd (unused) SZD+ and use it in conjunction with the currently installed one?....or will it not be able to work with 2 dongles? (btw...I use RPi 3b currently). Thanks :)
Sadly a Zigbee network will only work with one coordinator at a time
@@HomeAutomationGuy do you have a video which explains the flashing process with an iMac?….most of the videos I see are PC based
Can I use the Aqara M1S hub as a router and the Conbee II as the controller?
I don't think so. Both the Conbee II and the M1S are Zigbee Coordinators, rather than routers.
Is ZIGBEE much better than wifi internet?? I use wifi and wanted to see if this is a better internet to use.
Take a look at my smart home protocols video on my channel, it shows the difference between all the protocols in a bit more detail.
Hi. Is it will communicate Zigbee hub to home devices without internet connection?
Yes you can!
How?? what I understood devices (like switches & others...) will communicate and send command through cloud server of the manufacturer.
@@ismaelrenato2309 it's locally connected through your ZigBee coordinator
Thank for your quick feed back. Zigbee coordinator can be assign automatic IP address??? because devices have fixed unique address set by manufacturer.
fyi: Trådfri = free from wire, so wireless :)
I did not know that. Thanks for educating me!
