@@HomeAutomationGuy Awesome, doesn’t have to to a switch. But was thinking might be more reliable. Looking forward to your video on how to do on docker. Thank you!
Ok understood, but what did you do with your old device (hub/gateway)? it will no more be used? I'm asking because I have a great Zigbee gateway called X5 that improved a lot the strenght of my Zigbee network, and now I'm understanding that with that dongle I'll no more use X5.
I am new to HA and right now I only use it to switch my light bulbs on and off. I like the idea to create one Ziggbee controller for all my devices but I have a couple of questions: I guess with this you won’t be able to do firmware updates on your lights or sensors? Second, my HA runs in a VM without USB ports. Can we use this dongle connected to another computer and then share it to HA? Thanks for the great video
Hello Telmo - welcome to the HA Community! You can do firmware updates on a lot of devices. Check out my video on ZHA vs Zigbee2MQTT which will show you this in more detail. If you're using the VM, you can pass through the USB port from the host to the VM/Container. Otherwise you could run something like Zigbee2MQTT on another computer and send the MQTT data to the HA VM over IP. The scond option would be more complicated.
I'm using conbee II on raspberry and docker. How can I configure home assistant container to make the raspberry port /dev/ttyACM0 available to the HA container?
I'm looking for cheap good zigbee hub for my first automation, including shown this mod in this video that the data don't go to the cloud or leven I don't have to use the Internet for controlling stuff.
Thanks for the video mate! What is the response time for Philips Hue motion sensors true this setup? I have noticed that connecting these sensors directly to HA there is much more delay in the re awakening time then true the Hue bridge. And furthermore, is it possible to activate scene's made in HA via Google Home? I have a monthly subscription at Nabu Casa. Thanks again!
I use Aqara Motion sensors in my house with HA and they respond instantly. Check out my Motion Sensor automation video on my channel for more information
Sorry, but I don't know what the Zigbee Bridge Pro is. A Zigbee Dongle is a USB coordinator device that gives whatever you plug it in to the capabilities to create and manage a Zigbee network. I am sure you can find information online about whether or not the Bridge works with HA and how.
@@HomeAutomationGuy Thank you ! And won't it mess up things having two hubs ? A video about a set up with both would be great. You know, without the hub i think one might loose the entertainment options of Hue (Hue Sync for exemple) and also features like last state to keep lights off After power outage, and finally easy updates and Dynamic scenes.

Is there a hub that runs on 12v or 5v USB i can use in my RV/Motorhome/Campervan? So i can have automation in my offgrid system without having to run a power hungry 240v inverter. All i need is a temperature sensor and a switch to turn on a 12v fan in my camper van. Plus a send an alert to my phone from my inbuilt internet connection in my van. I could also set up a security alarm sensors to do a similar alert to my phone, from my campervan.
As raspberry pi running Home Assistant with a ZigBee stick plugged into it would easily run off a 12v camper connection using a 12v -> 5v USB adapter. Just make sure it can push enough current to keep the Pi happy
Yes you can. Take a look at this community forum post, someone has been able to achieve this to a CSV file community.home-assistant.io/t/export-sensor-data-to-text-file/46804
I have HA + ConBee II (a.k.a. ConBee 2) USB adapter from dresden elektronik(for motion sensors) now i need brighter lights, i was planning to get =Philips Hue WHITE E67 E27/15,5W/230V would these work with zigbee module? i dont want to buy additional hue hub. thanks!
I really like this one slae.sh/projects/cc2652/ But there are a lot more listed here if you are unable to get that where you are: www.zigbee2mqtt.io/information/supported_adapters
I am using a ConBee II and I followed your instructions explicitly. The device is set up but I can't get it to discover any device. I have tried a hue bulb (like your instructions) and some Aqara devices (water detector, Door/window Sensor).
Interesting - does it detect the ConBee device when you configure ZHA? Make sure that you put the Zigbee device close to the ConBee stick when you try to pair it.
Is there suppose to be a delay when using zigbee? i have a sonoff zigbee window switch, and it would takes 1-2 seconds to register the status. using ZHA integration with sonoff zigbee bridge
There will be a slight delay, but 12 seconds sounds high. Mine registers within about a second. Is the switch far away from the coordinator? Does it work better when it's closer? The ZigBee signal could be hopping through another device that is acting as a router and behaving slowly. Or if all your sensors are showing a long delay it might be the hardware that your Home Assistant is running on?
Can a Zigbee hub be located remotely (via Internet) to an HA installation? Am in the process of setting up a HA installation at home, but would also like to put some Zigbee motion detectors/door sensors in a remote location (our 2nd home), just to keep an eye on the place when we are not there. Just wondering if I can avoid a 2nd HA installation.
I unfortunately don't know the answer to that, but I would think not. I would personally put another HA installation in and create a VPN between the two houses (Or use Home Assistant Cloud by Nabu Casa)
@@HomeAutomationGuy OK; thanks for taking the time to reply. I will get my main system working first and then decide the way forward for the 2nd site. Unfortunately they are 10K km apart (UK/SE Asia), so I cannot just pop in to try things :) Keep up the good work.
@@killickr just an idea, I’m sure it may have already been done. If you used Unifi for your home network in your main house, then used a point to point link to the second house (only if there’s a clear line of sight) that will link the 2 houses together as one network. This means devices connect at the 2nd house will be discoverable at the main house via the p2p link.
Any ideas on why my LQI shows "unknown?" also my switch doesn't change states, when I toggle it it flashes (it's connected to a light) several times until it gets the propper state :/

My ZigBee dongle does NOTHING, it's in Home Assistant, it says it's working, but does nothing. I have govee motion sensor, it can't find, I have ring binary switches that are NO GO. I'm ready to throw all of this in the trash. I spend most of my life trying to keep it all working. I've spent weeks watch videos and reading Latin, or it might as well be. I still don't know how to use a yaml or how to install one. It may be my age, or the assumptions of the content creators, they seem to skip the VERY BASICS. I'm old, tried and completely and totally frustrated
The problem with this setup is that we can't use the much better Hue app, and we rely on HA's notorious stability for something as important as lighting. I like the concept but not the experience.
I personally haven't missed the Hue App and haven't had any stability issues. But then again I didn't do anything fancy other than turn the lights on and off, adjust the brightness or set simple scenes. How are you using the Hue app?

@@HomeAutomationGuy Awesome, doesn’t have to to a switch. But was thinking might be more reliable. Looking forward to your video on how to do on docker. Thank you!
Ok understood, but what did you do with your old device (hub/gateway)? it will no more be used? I'm asking because I have a great Zigbee gateway called X5 that improved a lot the strenght of my Zigbee network, and now I'm understanding that with that dongle I'll no more use X5.
I put it into my Tech Graveyard drawer with the hope I'll find a use for it one day 😬😔
Awesome video. Ill be killing off deconz and moving to this now. By the way whats that light bar / led behind the lamp in this video?
It's a Philips Hue LED strip mounted inside an aluminium LED diffuser channel
Nice video, I'm using a sonoff zigbee bridge with ZHA. Works like a charm :)
Interesting, thanks for sharing! I've heard other people have trouble with them but I've never used them myself.
Do non sonoff devices work with it?
are you using a docker container? my usb port keeps dropping out, leaving my zigbee network unavailable. :(
I am new to HA and right now I only use it to switch my light bulbs on and off. I like the idea to create one Ziggbee controller for all my devices but I have a couple of questions:
I guess with this you won’t be able to do firmware updates on your lights or sensors?
I cover this in my docker video series which you should be able to find on my channel
I'm looking for cheap good zigbee hub for my first automation, including shown this mod in this video that the data don't go to the cloud or leven I don't have to use the Internet for controlling stuff.
This was very useful!
Great info and detail… thanks!
What the difference between Zigbee dongle and Zigbee bridge pro.
Can i use zigbee bridge with HA server without the dongle?
Sorry, but I don't know what the Zigbee Bridge Pro is. A Zigbee Dongle is a USB coordinator device that gives whatever you plug it in to the capabilities to create and manage a Zigbee network. I am sure you can find information online about whether or not the Bridge works with HA and how.
What about hue software updates? Can I still update my hue lights firmware via the usb dongle?
Yes. You sure can!
What are the numbers in the visualization tab between the ZigBee devices and the antenna?
The "link quality". Basically the signal strength. Bigger numbers are better
Thank you@@HomeAutomationGuy
Is it possible to keep hue hub and add home assistant on top of it ? How would all the three work together ?
Yep, it's very possible. The Hue hub should be automatically detected by Home Assistant and import all of your lights that are already set up
@@HomeAutomationGuy Thank you ! And won't it mess up things having two hubs ? A video about a set up with both would be great. You know, without the hub i think one might loose the entertainment options of Hue (Hue Sync for exemple) and also features like last state to keep lights off After power outage, and finally easy updates and Dynamic scenes.
Hi, Thanks for the video. I have installed Sonoff Zigbee 3.0 dongle plus & have configured it with ZHA. Sonoff Temperature sensor & Motion Sensor gets added instantly. But I can't integrate Philips Wiz smart bulb with this. Any thoughts?. Thanks in advance
I think the WiZ bulbs are WiFi and not Zigbee. You should be able to add them using the Wiz Home Assistant integration
@@HomeAutomationGuy Really Appreciate. Thank You!
Great video man. Could you tell me where you purchased your particular dongle or drop an affiliate link please? I like that yours has an external antenna. My current one is all built in.
Thx
These are the ones I have used

I then use a USB extender cable so I can move it around
@@HomeAutomationGuy Thank you for the detailed reply. I really appreciate it. Im new to all these automation gadgets but im sure i will pick it up.
Good luck with it all and have fun!
So if I add a zigbee device to HA I will no longer be able to control it with the original hub/app?
Correct, but you can control it with the HA app then
these small sensor devices are all self contained and powered by batteries?
How long do they last?
Yep, they last a year or more on a single battery
Can you get Aqara devices and hub to get excel of the data collected? I am working on a project that we are looking extrapolate the data collected.
Yes you can. Take a look at this community forum post, someone has been able to achieve this to a CSV file
community.home-assistant.io/t/export-sensor-data-to-text-file/46804
I have HA + ConBee II (a.k.a. ConBee 2) USB adapter from dresden elektronik(for motion sensors)
now i need brighter lights, i was planning to get =Philips Hue WHITE E67 E27/15,5W/230V
would these work with zigbee module? i dont want to buy additional hue hub.
thanks!
Yes, I use these bulbs myself and they work great!
@@HomeAutomationGuy i can confirm. Takes time to get them into pairing but once paired works great
What dongle that u r using? How it is working ?
I’m using sonoff zigbee bridge (tasmota) I’m facing some problem.
I really like this one slae.sh/projects/cc2652/
But there are a lot more listed here if you are unable to get that where you are: www.zigbee2mqtt.io/information/supported_adapters
Which usb dongle use? And it will work any laptop? Without hub these zigbee product can i use?
I use a CC2652RB USB stick. You can buy them online here: slae.sh/projects/cc2652/
@roger the Sonoff ZigBee Bridge is WiFi, so if you connected the networks using Tailscale or another way of accessing, you only need 1 HA box
Any ideas on why my LQI shows "unknown?" also my switch doesn't change states, when I toggle it it flashes (it's connected to a light) several times until it gets the propper state :/
I'm not sure sorry! Perhaps it's a faulty device or too far away from the coordinator or other router devices?
@@HomeAutomationGuy Faulty extension cable man!! :3 Scratched my head a lot with this :P
@@AlonsoVPR Oh man! Congratulations on solving it!
Which dongle do you recommend?
The Slaesh or Sonoff 3.0 dongles are working well for me
It works with tuya sensors as well?
I believe so! I've not personally tested any, but they appear to be supported:
zigbee.blakadder.com/zha.html
great tutorial!!
PS you should NOT use plastic enclosures for Raspbery... it's hot in there :) Also people DO NOT BUY CC2531 dongle! It's absolute! Buy CC2652P it's newer, better, faster, longer range and everything is better. And don't buy SonOff products -they SUCK! Dies within year or two..
We can see what happening if you don't have total control over your smart devices, like the govermant blocks your heating Temperatur at home ect.
painting our windows black helps further protect our privacy.
Yeh, but then you can't see out of them. It's all about balancing risk and privacy against convenience.
@@HomeAutomationGuy but then your privacy is secure. Lol
I'm sorry that you're having a frustrating time. Unfortunately home automation like this is still maturing and not as accessible as we'd like it to be
It seems you aren't capable (any more?) to do this yourself
I have a problem with ziggbee dongle range….
My video about ZigBee has some tips on how to use ZigBee Routers to extend range ruclips.net/video/Yrp4LU5n7mc/видео.html
I wonder if it works with Hue Sync box tool. Anyone here?
It doesn't unfortunately
werkt voor geen meter !!!
Why so much work for having a smart home..
Its not for normal people..
It must be more simple to connect any product to a smart home, with out be a high tech man..
Hopefully one day it will be easier
