I've been using Thunderbird for ages. Even since before making the change to Linux. Absolutely fantastic software made by great people, and they're working on splitting K-9 mail on Android into two different packages- K9 and Thunderbird, so people who don't want the rebrand/switch don't have to. I think that's pretty great.
The Thunderbird I installed was the ESR version from the Thunderbird website. Linux Mint and Debian use a different version. I think they package their own but I am not sure. While Ubuntu on has the Snap version. So the version installed direct from the Thunderbird website, is a good option for those who don't want Snap or Flatpack but want the stable version.
I'm planning on switchin my laptop to linux when Summer begins, and ill have to get an alternative to outlook for emails from my college. This video came just in time. Appreciate your work, Andrea.

Your video just popped up randomly on my feed, and I couldn't help but comment and let you know how wonderful I feel you are for making these tutorials and keeping yourself busy and us entertained. Age is just a number, wishing you many more healthy years to upload videos and for us to keep watching them! Good day.
Hi Andrea! Love your stuff. Have you thought about making a Discord Server? Would love to see you build a community that interacts with each other in the name of linux, and everything else. I would be honoured to help you get started.
Hi, Andrea, I am a new one, I join your channel sine May 2024. You are the best teacher in Linux. I like you most. I will watch all your youtube film. Thank you.
Thanks for your continued contribution Andrea! I've finally took the dive and made the switch to a Debian-based distro (Ubuntu) and have been enjoying it so far.
Mice video as always :) i do wonder how many people still use these programs these days over webmail, i know i don't bother to configure an email client much these days
wow, I have to do 2 hour tutorials to explain to my mother how to change her wallpaper and here is your mother Andrea explaining to you how Linux works
I'm a big fan of web mail. Well, not really, it's just that I never have the time or patience to setup a proper desktop client with my 3 email accounts. This video might change that. Thank you Andrea.
No Fedora and Arch are not the same as Ubuntu and Debian based Linux. They are different and not very stable. So I am sticking with Debian and Linux Mint.
Yes I am running Linux Mint with KDE as the only desktop on Linux Mint. It came with Xfce which I removed after I installed the KDE. But I still have all of the Mint tools and software as I only removed the desktop environment not the system.
@@AndreaBorman Actually it's pretty cool if you miss mint 18.3 but I want a stripped off mint tty server where i can install kde desktop wothout gtk packages
@@plutorocks1 That's one of the problems. Mint comes with a lot of things I don't use such as LibreOffice and other media players. When I just want VLC. So I have to uninstall all of that. It would be nice if we could just choose a minimal install with just the desktop then add the things we want ourselves. They have this option on Ubuntu but not on Mint. One of the good things about Debian is that you can choose what desktop environment you want. I wish Mint had this option as well. You still can change the desktop but you have to remove the default one afterwards. And many things from the old desktop get left behind.
I like Thunderbird but finally I give up and just use the Gmail web client, I realized that I don't need too many features, and the web version is always there on the browser without need to install anything.
I did try both Evolution and KMail. I think I mentioned it in the video. KMail would not connect to Gmail because KDE Wallet was disabled. Evolution did connect me to my email using IMAP. But when I tried POP it would not give me any confirmation if my account was connected or not. But it did work because I tested it by sending an email to myself and I got it. Also the problem with Mail programs like Evolution, Geary and KMail are that they are only made to work on the Gnome or KDE desktop. So they don't always work so well if you are not using those desktops. Where as Thunderbird and Betterbird which is a Thunderbird clone are designed to work on any desktop and any operating system. Not just Linux. The same with Seamonkey which is also made by Mozilla. So I think those are the best ones to use. The advantage is also that you can download them direct from the website. So you know you are getting the latest version. Some people don't like the changes of Thunderbird but I cannot see any difference from that or Betterbird. The versions of Thunderbird I got from the website was the ESR version which surprised me. But I guess that's what Thunderbird are supporting. The later versions that are in Mint and Debian must be a Beta version or ones they packaged themselves but I am not sure.
I used to use Outlook Express and Windows Mail when I was on Windows. So the layout of Seamonkey Mail and also of Betterbird and Thunderbird reminds me of that. They are easier to set up. as on Thunderbird and Betterbird the POP and Imap settings are configured automatically without you having to do anything. On Seamonky you have to configure it yourself but it's not difficult to do.

I’ve been on Manjaro for 5 years now, but watching you using Debian I am tempted to now to switch back to Debian after so many years.
Manjaro has a really bad reputation, at least you should be moving to arch, but debian is also great
