- സൗത്ത് ഏഷ്യയിലെ തന്നെ ഏറ്റവും വലിയ ഏക്സോട്ടിക് പഴങ്ങളുടെ നഴ്സറി നമ്മുടെ കാഞ്ഞിരപ്പള്ളിയിൽ ആണ് എന്ന് നമ്മുടെ ചിങ്കു പറഞ്ഞാണ് അറിഞ്ഞത്. അപ്പൊ പിന്നെ കാഞ്ഞിരപ്പള്ളി വഴി പോവുമ്പോൾ നമുക്ക് അത് ഒന്ന് കേറി കാണണമല്ലോ. അങ്ങനെ ഞങ്ങൾ ഹോം ഗ്രോൺ എന്ന ഈ നഴ്സറിയിൽ പോയി. റംബൂട്ടാൻ, പലാസാൻ, ടൂറിയൻ, മംഗോസ്റ്റീൻ, അങ്ങനെ പലതരം പഴങ്ങളുടെ വൃക്ഷങ്ങൾ വിൽക്കുന്ന ഒരു നഴ്സറി. ഏറ്റവും വലുത് എന്ന് പറയുമ്പോൾ ഈ നഴ്സറിക്ക് 80 ഏക്കർ സ്ഥലവും അവിടെ പഴങ്ങളുടെ കൃഷിയും ഒക്കെയാണ് ഉള്ളത്. While travelling through Kanjirapally, I called up Chingu for his suggestions for a good food spot. During our conversation he mentioned about a nursery that sells exotic fruit plants in Kanjirappally. He also mentioned that it is the largest exotic fruit plant nursery in South Asia. Thus we decided to explore Home Grown Nursery that day. It has got 80 acres of land and several species of exotic fruit plants. Rambutan and several varieties of it including N18 Rambutan, E35 Rambutan, and several more. They also have Pulasan, Durian, Mangosteen, and several more. By the way, do you know which is the queen of fruits? Yeap, Mangosteen is considered as the queen of fruits and also the food of the Gods. This sweet and tangy fruit is grown in several parts of South-East Asia including Thailand, Malaysia, and Singapore.

Greetings from Malaysia. Mr. Sebastian very correctly translated & pronounced the names (in Malay) of rambutan, durian and pulasan. These fruits are from South East Asia. Durian is the KING of fruits. Foreigners generally hate the the smell of durian but loved by SE Asians. Not allowed in hotels, airplanes etc. Generally grown on foothills and jungle fringes. The fruit must fall down not plucked. Wild animals like tigers, bears love them, having long sharp claws to open the fruits. So collecting them near jungle fringes used to be risky. Now also grown on plantations/farms. A tip, after removing the outer skin of rambuatan, place the fruit (flesh) in a bowl and place it in the fridge before eating, emmmmmm. My Acha who was from Kannur district and migrated to Malaya (now Malaysia) on 1937 said there were no durian tress or rambuatan trees in Malabar.

From food tasting to fruitfarming (Pomology) this was a wild cross over ! Interesting there are such large yield Farms in those parts n people who understand the crop diligently. And yes Rambutan ( Hairy) n Pulasan (Twister) and the notorious Durian are Malay by birth. The latter is critically banned in Hotels n such other commercial bldgs for its strenuous n obnoxious odour.
