Nice to see so many of these handsome locos in preservation. I was at school in Poole when they were in service with BR, I saw them every day passing Poole gasworks, and I can remember being really annoyed when a start was made of stripping them of their streamlining. I can now appreciate that whichever coats they wear, these are some of the best looking locos in service anywhere. It’s also good to see them working on so many different railways.

Only ever saw one in BR service.....the last built 35030. Came screaming through Clapham Junction in October 1966. It also worked the 14.07 from Weymouth on the last day of Southern steam on 9th July 1967....the very last BR steam loco into Waterloo, deputising for a diesel i believe. Shame it wasn't preserved😢

If you can't have a duchess, its no hardship to make do with a Packet.
