Not many shows in the past couple years have really addressed the damage the pandemic did to the restaurant industry. So many of my favorite places to eat were forced to shut down due to the lockdown. I’m so glad they brought this up.

This comment got me harder than I expected. My favorite restaurant that had been around since my parents were kids closed down due to covid. My parents went there on their first date, I went there in the womb, and I went there for 25+ years - the pandemic hit it too hard and it couldn't recover. It was devastating.

Wilco's "Impossible Germany" playing at the end of this episode was honestly everything to me because that song always makes me feel good, and it's like the calm after the storm. They always have great song choices, which perfectly fit the vibe of the show 😭❤

Matty Matheson (Fak) is not just a real life chef, he's a real life chef who has never acted professionally before in his life before this show. He was hired by the show's producers to be a culinary consultant, and at some point he was asked if he would be interested in a supporting character role, and the only condition he gave was that he did not want to play a chef on the show. So ironically, one of the few characters on the show who never cooks anything is played by someone who cooks for a living.

I can attest to catering being a total nightmare. Worked for a place that boasted they could cater 10 to 10k. Hell on Earth. Also, there's a scene in an episode of Friends where Monica is catering a funeral and is done and ready to leave, but the host is lagging on paying her by feigning bereavement. That crap happens CONSTANTLY.

Relish is an ingredient on a chicago dog... often the fluorescent green stuff. A steamed poppy seed bun, steamed beef dog, mustard on the dog, chopped onion and tomato, RELISH, sport peppers, dill spear and a sprinkle of celery salt.

Knew a lot of people who worked in the catering business, really stressful due to how picky certain people are with catering. I remember my co workers making entrees the entire day for catering and customers would be upset over the smallest things like detailing. They’re nice people too which sucks because there would just get yelled at for nothing just because a customer is picky about presentation. I will always have respect for people in that business, be grateful for any meal someone makes for you because never know if it’ll be your last.

From "Jeppson's Malort" website: "Through the decades, Jeppson's Malört - a traditional wormwood-based digestif - has been thought of as a rite of passage or a hangover cure. For many Chicagoans, Malört is the drink that has defined the Chicago bar experience." Yeah "Wprmwood", the same thing as "Absinthe".

I literally gasped when you said go to chicago just to put ketchup on a hotdog LOL. But as a Chicagoan now living in So. Cal, I get it. I think the no ketchup rule prob stems from chicago-style hotdogs having tomato slices, yellow mustard, sweet pickle relish, white onion, dill pickle spear, sport peppers and celery salt. It's already A LOT. If you want to try a Chicago-style hotdog and beef sandwich (what they make at the shop on the show) then try Portillo's in Anaheim! It's a Chicago staple and my little taste of home when I go to Angels' games. Make sure to get the beef "dipped", with a side of cheese, and a chocolate cake shake!

Chicago pizza is Pizza. It was created by Italians.
The ketchup on a hot dog is because it’s an insult to the quality of the meat as ketchup was used to cover the taste and smell of bad rancid meat back in the day.
If you go to Chicago, the best “Chicago style” hot dog to me is the SuperDawg from SuperDawg. It’s hands down the best. (Bigger hot dog, tastier, and bigger bun. It’s also put in a box that helps warm the cold ingredients put in the Chicago dog, and it has a pickled green tomato).

By the way, go to Devil Dawgs. When you go to place like Devil Dawgs, you have like twelve options (not just Chicago style, which is hot peppers, whole pickle, chopped onion, mustard, and celery salt). I always get sauerkraut with mustard and another with creamy cole slaw. That shit is BOMB. You don't have to get Chicago style. It's just one of those things a Chicago dude will rail another dude over at a party or something.
Now the real arguments come with Chicago pizza. But before you can get into which pizza places are the best, you gotta know:
Deep dish is also (mainly) for tourists. Locals might get it once a year. Chicago pizza is THIN crust and cut in squares. It is vastly superior to greasy New York style. The crust is crispy, which is key. Cornmeal on the bottom. Sauce is tangy and chunky. You can easily eat an entire pizza (some call it snack pizza or bar pizza). Dip it in rach. Boom. Trust. I live in New Orleans where all the pizza is New York (but not as good in NY), and it depresses the shit out of me.
OMG Steven - soup, hot coffee, and tea are three of my top pleasures in life. Could live off of those three things.

Once again Nikki I’m going to turn you on to dill relish specifically! It’s not sweet because it’s made with dill pickles instead of bread and butter ones. It is important to me that you know this if you don’t already.

I’m from Philly and ketchup on a hot dog is not cool to a certain demographic. Until you said you put ketchup on your hot dog I thought that was just (no offense) “white people shit”. I grew up putting ketchup on my dog and I had the same reaction you did when I found out that was “taboo”. Until you mentioned it I thought white people don’t like ketchup….at least on meat. Don’t go to South Philly and tell them you want ketchup on your cheesesteak. They won’t put it on there but instead you get a few packets in your bag or directed to the condiments bar.

I’m not trying to start a war or anything in the comments but I just have to say: I don’t consider Chicago Deep Dish to be pizza. it’s really good, but it’s not pizza to me.

Okay, who's disgusted? lol Sydney is one of my favorite characters, she's so awesome! Sandwiches for dinner? Nah......maybe only pulled pork sandwiches but that's it.
