Oversteering on the runway, especially landing, especially especially with a cross wind, was driving me crazy, even playing around with sensitivity settings. I find this version significantly easier. Thanks for the great tuition... I think I might be getting there!
Thanks for the video capt! I took this baby out earlier there is a small bug with getting "too steep path ahead on FMC" but aside from that the landing was much better! :D That last crosswind landing was spectacular!
The gamechanger came with SU10. Asobo implemented some new variables that allow you to adjust the stickiness of the wheels at higher speeds. Before, the friction coefficient was static which is not what happens in the real world because as you accelerate the tyres lose some friction. As far as I know though, only the Fenix and FBW have gone ahead and made use of them. Hopefully PMDG will follow.
Moreover, once Asobo adds a 3d surface area to wheels, we'll get almost perfect ground handling. They are still modeled as points with no surface area, but that should be changed this year.
@@WestAirAviation Yes they mentioned that. However it'll be more like next year since it's not in SU11 which is the last SU for this year. I can wait that long though.
All I want is for the planes to track down the runway like real planes do and not move around so easily, and right now the Fenix is no different to any other plane. I was hoping the four new parameters Asobo added to the ground physics would change that but there’s been no change so far with any aircraft I’ve tried in the sim. Planes still feel too light with too little friction.
If I read the PMDG announcement right, they rework their fleet, too so that the advantages of all updates are included. They, like other studios, usually worked in rarely updated or even “dead” simulators (their own words!) regarding the further development. That is very now to them and not easy for little teams, but they adjusted to over time. Till SU11 all should work at those, too. I hope that the HeavyDivision one will surprise us too mid/end 2023 in that regard. Great time for simming at the moment.
Brillant video on highlighting the changes in the update Capt. Very cool how you showed a short video of the prior version ie flap 3 nose down to illustrate the improvement. Best to you and the 1st officer.
Thanks a lot for this great and helpful video and in general for your efforts bringing us flight simmers closer to reality. I'm really looking forward to your 'flare video' that you announced in another comment. Many greetings from close to EDLW 😉
Half deflection of the spoilers and then full is due to PLD(Phased lift damping ) which is there in Airbus aircraft’s …because of this there’s a slight delay in the deployment of the spoilers
Really interesting informed information that really does give you a greater understanding of what's actually happening rather just wondering, BZ. Two questions, what replay app do you use and.... would you consider recording a set of Captain and F/O voice sets for FS2 Crew app so we can imagine we are flying along side you and feel more competent! ✈
How do you get those buttery-smooth pans around the aircraft during flight, ex: 00:40-02:30? What are your camera settings for that? As always, brilliant video! Thank you for all your hard work!
Thanks a lot - do you use your rudders much will approaching or mostly just before landing. Trying to improve my technique but takes a lot of training :)
Really informative thank you. For a while I’ve had difficulties settling the A320 and controlling it laterally when rolling out - I though it my just be poor skills on my part... Am very interested to see if this has now improved.
Thanks for another brilliant tutorial. Did I miss something in the video? How much aileron are you using when you’re decrabbing with the rudder, during the flare? The wobbly wings suggested you’re using some stick?
Hello. I congratulate you for those masterful tutorial videos that inspire you to continue flying. I don't know if he could help me this way. With the FBW 320NX without problems. I bought the Fenix A320 and it is a bit Sui Generis with the configuration. I don't know if I don't follow the steps or if my peripheral configuration is missing something. When taking off on my ECAM in RED "AUTO FLT AP OFF" AND THERE IS NO WAY TO RE-ENGAGE THE AUTOPILOT. Could you guide me to correct this error? I have seen multiple options on the internet, but I have not been able to correct them.
Also curious on stick settings, update has helped a bunch, especially the autoland..which is back to being better than my landings 😅 im still having a really hard time timing my flair and not over doing it..I usually float too much or slam it at 300-400 fps lol
If the autopilot lands better than you, then why don't you learn from it? That's how I learned how to land smoothly. Here's how: First you watch how the autopilot lands, focus on the FPD and monitor what the FD(Flight Director) doing and RA(Radio Altimeter) call outs. Then try to land the aircraft manually and do not look outside but on the FD and follow its guidance. Once you're confident on landing by following exactly what the FD says, remember how you applies force on the side stick and practice landing on your own. You're welcome.
@@hotaruchiyuki7711 you cannot follow the FD for the flare. I don't know where this comes from but it's not in the training and A320 pilots don't do it
This might be the solution to my horrific problems with setting flaps full on approach and that causing the aircraft to pitch heavily up and cause the aircraft’s orange line speed to creep up and eventually cut off the autopilot. 95% of my ILS landings fail because of this.
Great video. Do you think the Fenix with the new patch has the correct momentum when "kicking it straight" during flare? Previously I found that the pre-patch Fenix doesn't have much momentum when de-crabbing, and the aircraft quickly got pushed to the side of the runway by the crosswind, and I have to revert to some wing-low technique. I asked BlackBox711 about the issue as well, and he preferred the XP12 FFA320U.
This is incredible. Performance looks much more realistic now. Would you say these changes bring the flight dynamics up to XPlane levels of realism or are there still areas to improve? Regarding your comment about lower surface wind, wouldn't that be realistic? Is there not friction with the ground and ground objects that would generally lower the wind speed at that level?
Thanks for watching Mark! The handling of the Fenix is very very good now across a wide range of situations which is great. I find it difficult to choose but with the improved ground/crosswind handling they are becoming comparable. As for the wind, if it's reported as 38kts across then although the wind higher up will be faster, that report will be from near to ground level, so it would be what you actually land with. Indeed as you go higher the wind speed does increase, on a day with 38kts on the ground you can expect 50/60kts at 4000 ft up often.
Change the global units (can't remember what its called) to US Imperial to get the WX window to display knots. For an annoying reason when you set it to Metric it uses MPS or KPH as a wind speed. Setting it to US imperial is the only way to show it in knots. I don't care too much that it displays all runway lengths in Feet. I can't get used to the new Fenix update. I find it becomes ground shy at about 300 ft and you have to really force it to go down. And it often gets quite unstable. I either start getting low or high and any attempt to correct it just results in a bit of a PIO. The final few hundred feet are nothing like the real aircraft and I'm struggling with it at the minute which is a great shame.
@@ogaibo1316 I transition to the PAPIs when I can and disregard the G/S after that (although this does set off spurious GPWS G/S warnings!) So long as the PAPIs are in the right place I'll concentrate on keeping two reds and two whites. But the aircraft seems quite unstable below about 500 ft and then gets ground shy. You should just be able to hold about 2.5° pitch (flap full) and tweak it half a degree or so to keep it on G/S (profile). I'm noticing I'm having to work very hard and push forward on the stick a lot more than I'd normally do in the real thing which is where I'm struggling as it's like a different aircraft. I need to have a play with my sensitivities as that maybe the root cause.
I feel with all these improvements both with the Fenix and Asobo with in sim flight dynamics. Is it getting to a point were Fenix can be certified for actual base flight simulator training?
Good grief. These planes sound so finicky, fragile and bordering on dangerous unless extreme levels of pilot compliance are present I doubt I will ever dare to fly in an Airbus ever again. If these planes require the pilot to be trained to a ridiculous degree they are unsafe.
And yet, thousands of Airbuses takeoff and land safely every day, sometimes in much more incremental conditions. It reminds me of a Western international airline which chose not to install an (optional) autopilot on one of its fleet types. Their reason was "That's what the second pilot is for". The pilots hand fly the whole trip, half a dozen flights a day or more. And everything went safely.
Well you should just stop travelling by planes then : / I mean airbus are more or less the most automated fly by wire planes on the market. Or cross your fingers to never fly with a MD-82 or a MD-11 landing (great planes, just slightly more rock and rolly in my experience).

Where do you set the control setting to "light", in the Fenix app?

I didn’t understand one thing! If the wind is coming from the right shouldn’t it be pushing the aircraft to the left? 😅
What is the meaning of "lighter" settings? I mean where can I make this change? Ingame?
You should multiply by 2 rather than 3 to convert m/s to kts should you not?
Yes this is an error! As you can tell I almost never do the conversion!
Do you use ailerons into the wind during a cross wind landing?
