    This kid's a little genius (I realize he is about 16 now). At age 10 he's not just playing accurately, but with sensitivity and flawless rhythm, something I wish I could say about many pianists who are much older.

    It is incredible how a ten-year-old knows that music is much more than striking the correct keys in tempo. I heard expression balance and sensitivity, which would have impressed the composer.

    The choice to add a mordant at 1:40 signaling the upcoming harmonic shift is brilliant!

      Yeah, without signaling a "harmonic shift" some of the audience might not hear it, or worse, have a stroke if it comes unexpectedly.

      Public performances are often pre- or post-recorded for noise (audience), tuning (harpsichord) and inaccuracies (performance). Sometimes they (have to) mix the images of both recording sessions, but be assured that they always involve the same players!

    • @andrewgraham9593
      @andrewgraham9593 4 года назад +6

      I have watched the mordant played a few times, and I believe that he rolls the notes so quickly that the camera just doesn't catch the motion. If you see his left hand at 1:00 - 1:10 his mordants are more visible.

      Hi, V.Duskren! It’s my playing. They shot twice of my playing, rehearsal and concert on the same day, and edited them. The sound is from the concert, and the movie is from both the rehearsal and the concert. I always change the way I play a bit as a baroque music player;-) I continue playing the harpsichord, please check my account!

    wish i had a harpischord, i can play almost every Bach invention, but i play it on a normal flat yamaha. So, the sound doesn't exactly sound like what Bach used to compose this.

      I suggest looking into the Roland C-30 Digital Harpsichord, which I think is the closest you can get to an acoustic harpsichord (and no, Roland isn't paying me for word-of-mouth advertising, lol.

    • @herrickinman9303
      @herrickinman9303 2 года назад

      Bach didn't compose sitting at an instrument. And he most likely played it on clavichord rather than harpsichord, as did most of the intended audience for this music.

    dumb question from a pianist -- what is the difference between the two keyboards? i was trying to figure out from watching the parts where he switches from one keyboard to another, but couldn't tell. thank you!

    • @BassoDeckeur
      @BassoDeckeur 7 лет назад +35

      Nino Rodriguez The upper keyboard has strings plucked on a different place than the lower one. It gives a different sound, due to the strings plucked much more near the pinblock. You should try a harpsichord as it has a lovely sound if you listen to it. :)

    • @bach

      @Phuky actually that is true.
      Rubato (free in rhitmic whithin the tactus) comes whith historic fingering and the use of non legato- legato- and over-legato ....
      Bach playing like a metronome is
      a 1950 construct so to speak .....

    • @danawinsor1380
      @danawinsor1380 3 года назад +3

      @@jsb7975 I agree. Bach mentions playing in a "cantabile" style, which I think Kanji Daito demonstrates beautifully.

    • @pinkfloydhomer
      @pinkfloydhomer 2 года назад +1

      This is not Bach as Chopin, this is probably very close to an authentic performance. Bach is not metronomic, it is cantabile. And baroque performance in general had a lot of leeway in terms of improving, adding ornaments, using rubato especially if the instrument itself did not have a dynamic range etc. Bach played as a robot is a mistaken concept from later in musical history. It is also unmusical, Bach is everything but.
