I believe they have spread themselves thin with the time frame they've given themselves to create new content for the seasons, but that sure as hell doesn't mean they don't see the criticism and take it into account. They have one of the best track records in the industry and that kind of thinking is just toxic negativity/nihilism. As far as seasonal events go, I have to say the meteors stand out to me for one specific reason: they spawn in during the mission rather than just be sort of sitting there to be found by players.
This little detail makes all the difference in terms of my enjoyment of them. There's nothing like the "oh shit!" factor of meteor about to pop a dreadnought egg while you're still trying to secure the surrounding area. It's this sort of surprise that makes me like them a lot more than the other events.

I would love if you could halt assignments and start a different one without losing progress on the former. This is incredibly annoying, especially if the assignment spans more than 3-4 missions.
Sometimes you're halfway deep in an assignment but you run out of matrix cores and the weekly core hunt is available. I hate having to choose between completing the final 3 missions and possibly not being able to reap the rewards from machine events I may encounter, or having to drop my current assignment, losing the progress, just so I can get cores from another one first, later having to redo the same missions I've already completed before.

Currently, I literally never look at the Season challenges, because they naturally happen as I play the game. I know for a fact that one of them will be class based, and one of them will be biome based, so as long as I just play the game and have variety in which class I play as and which biome I play on, they will automatically complete themselves.
I think your idea of implementing TF2’s contract system would be an amazing thing to see in DRG, especially because it would add so much more for any player to do. Some ideas for class-specific contract challenges could be:
Scout - The Gardener: After 3 seconds of airtime, successfully kill an enemy using a power attack mid-air
Gunner - Air Support: Kill at least 20 enemies while suspended from a zip line.
Engineer - Bombardier: Kill at least 10 enemies using a single bullet from the Deepcore 40mm PGL.
Driller - Bring the Heat: During a single mission, overheat your drills a total of 10 times.
So many ideas could come from the contract system.

      Other ideas for contracts:
      Scout: Electrician: Deploy 20 lights.
Gunner: Suppressive Fire: Fire any primary weapon for 10 seconds straight.
Engineer: Sentry Goin' Up: Deploy and build 20 Sentries.
Driller: Anarchist: Burn or Freeze 50 mobs.

Hopoo also did this pretty well with the implementation of Void Seeds in Risk of Rain 2's Survivors of the Void DLC, and they are generally a welcome addition.

I think this Season the spawn rate of the Lithophage Corrupter and the Jet Boots should been swapped. Make the Corrupeter more rare, and Jet Boots more common, at least for this Season. Or better yet, *make the Jet Boots Event related.* Have an Event where you need to call down Jet Boots to complete it, like a Lithophage spreader that runs all over the ceilings, and you need to fly up to clean it. Makes more sense than Management putting time, and money into the creation of Jet Boots, only to lock it behind a game of Flappy Bird, then shoot them all randomly all over Hoxxes for the Dwarves to find on 1/10 of their trips? Which is especially weird *when there are Jet Boots that you can equip on the Space Rig that don't carry over to the Mission.*

Imagine exploring a cave and coming across the wreck of a crashed spaceship or spacerig and there's some unique loot in it but also its security systems attack you or impede progress. From things like turrets to locked doors that need a keycard to open or be blown up/dug through/around.

The Rival events, in my opinion, were a lot better, as most of them involved either fun puzzles where you have to use the environment to your advantage, or it’s a cool, epic battle, like the caretaker, (Rock Pox could really use a fight like that, the corrupter ain’t doin’ it for me) like imagine fighting a giant, living meteorite, that has giant kraken like tentacles that grab you and infect you, like the nemesis; and maybe it can infect and change the cave around you, like shift it around, like the cave is alive. Maybe it could use its tentacles to slam the ground near players. I feel like something like that, a big epic boss fight, could really help with the rock pox theme, and add something unique.

Imagine piercing into the heart of a cavern that's been fully rockpox'd, gradually getting worse and worse with each dive (presumably with some sort of hazmat protection) before cutting it off, or finding the Rival outpost and piercing its defences, before interrupting their orbital relay so they can no longer send down caretakers.

A significant amount of the issue of content being phased out is just down to people getting unlucky. Rival tech stuff being rare isn't a problem: it's that because it's entirely random some people are really unlucky and literally never get to see it. Some tweaks to the randomness can reign that in somewhat, making it something that occasionally shows up without becoming too frequent and repetitive to get old. It being rare is not a problem in my opinion.

Rival events have a chance to replace the hacking pods on Industrial Sabotage would go so far in terms of making that mission more enjoyable.
I've always thought that more randomized objectives during missions would add so much to this game. Different minerals to mine during Point Extraction, different egg types in Egg Hunt (IE Mactera eggs). Maybe even a rival event could be an alternative objective in salvage missions. Gotta grab a rival core instead of fixing mini mules, it's what the previous crew was going for. Different objective at the end of Drilldozer missions. Stuff like that.

TF2's contracts is the last thing I'd want to see in DRG, I absolutely hated them in TF2, they were easily the most unfun thing I experienced in my 12 years that I've been playing the game, and your idea sounds equally as painful as it was in TF2. "Do this highly specific random thing x times" is the least fun thing I can imagine for DRG, I don't mind the current challenge system but it just needs more variety. The problem with DRG is the lack of variety, not a lack of carrots on a stick to keep playing, DRG has an absolutely pitiful amount of weapons and main mission objectives, to me there should be at the very minimum double that amount, three primaries and secondaries per class is simply a pitiful amount of options for a co-op arsenal.

Mini meteor event, season challenges getting repetitive, getting tired of the season theming. I love rockpox and the rival tech, but a full year for each theme does get pretty old. I really liked your idea for the rival events being way more common on industrial sabotage. Antenna events and prospectors should spawn on those events way more. Plus I want to see way more nemesis encounters. The nemesis is my favorite enemy in the game and I almost never get the chance to see it. These past 4 seasons feel like they should've been 2 seasons with "half season" updates. It may be a big ask but since we're likely not getting anything as big as new weapons in the near future I think they could do this for future seasons where roughly halfway through we get a progression to the theme of the season like new events or whatnot. It could be a bit of a time crunch but I feel like it'd help with the feeling that seasons overstay their welcome.

To me the problem is obvious. Season events are the wrong way to go with new content. As much as i hate the industrial sabotage mission, it's absolutely the right way to go. Its permanent content that can be enjoyed when a player chooses and also offers more variety of game play.
The problem with the lithophage outbreak events is they are SECONDARY mission types. Compare contagion spikes to gunk seeds and youll realize they have no business being secondary mission types.
I think the whole lithophage outbreak season could have been 10x better if nuetralizing contagion spikes were made into their own mission entirely. The difficulty would have to be ramped up but that actually sounds fun. Perhaps you remove the spikes in stages and each stage spits harder infected enemies at you.
I think this fixes many issues. First, they arent random encounters that are annoying when in season and scarce post season. Secondly, they add more variety to gameplay experience without being tediously tacked onto current mission objectives. I cant think of more while at work. Thirdly i think this allows the devs to tell the story they want to tell which currently they arent able to do. It feels like there is a natural story progression to be had as rock pox takes over hoxes. But the problem is it feels liek its going to take 8 seasons and 4 years to tell it at this pace.

It has a good amount of different types of secondary missions like kill a certain enemy type which has some variety and difficulty like deep dives with their secondary variants. the contracts idea would honestly be amazing not just as a "go at your own pace / do what you want first" but it would help newer players a ton in learning the game better and each classes roles, how to use weapons, etc (and i know this since the tf2 contract system is what helped me actually learn other classes outside of my main; before i 100%'d my contracker i stuck to like 3 maps and played 2 maybe 3 classes. after doing the contracts i'm not only more comfortable playing on all sorts of maps but i also have a much bigger understanding of class roles and weapon selection)
not to mention it would encourage the use of things one wouldn't bother with. it'd go hand in hand as a companion to assignment missions and would fit the world perfectly honestly; there would just have to be a buffer to make sure contracts don't get repeated too often (perhaps something along the lines of a controlled randomizer similar to deep dives but a bit more loose - and everyone gets unique contracts from that since management probably has specific jobs for us specific workers)

Great video! Want to preface this saying I love this game to bits (that won't stop me criticising it though). I think my favourite thing about drg is the absolutely immense amount of variety in how you can make a loadout. Part of the reason i don't like the robots is because it kind of feels like you're bottlenecked into a fire build. It's the same with rockpox just with DOT builds feeling weak comparatively to wm1. Also they really need to fix fighting rockpox at the moment, it feels like you're supposed to get close to kill rockpox enemies, yet the game consistently punishes you for doing so. I love this game so much, but it just feels like I have to play a certain way during a season, or I feel like I'm actively screwing my team over. This is most true for driller imo, but I do think other classes face a similar issue. Not as big of a deal for dreadnoughts though, because those are designed to be huge tanky single targets which specific builds will do better against. It's just the season gimmick bottlenecking me that I hate. I personally think they need to give people more to stick around for, new weapons, grenades, maybe even rework perks, traversal tools or support tools. I want to see the kind of stuff that I can play around with for hundreds of hours, not a shiny new gimmick that costs me my sanity. I loved the two new enemies, even if stingtails are hugely overtuned. I want to see this game succeed but as it stands there just isn't enough motive to keep playing the game outside of seeing the new gimmick for the first time. Rock and stone!

Cargo Crates and Helmets should remain a chance to spawn, but also, add a positive modifier (or negative) with a "SOS" signal.
All it does is guarantee a Helmet or Crate spawn, and helps narrow down the pool. It also provides good mineral payout for those who are done with the crates, so there's always a reason for them to exist.
If they make it a negative modifier, it can be an "Elite" group of bugs that had killed the Dwarf, or bugs that find the crate's beeping interesting, so they just patrol the area.

That would help with the Seasonal in adding more challenge types... perhaps scrip could be used in other ways besides cosmetics. I do appreciate they added in a Randomzier beer, but they could do more than that in specific challenges with weapons under not-ideal conditions and modifiers for rewards.
Overclocks for each class' utility/support tools - this could potentially add more play styles and loadouts for each class if they get tinkered with. For example, Engineer's sentry can become a mobile gun that follows but loses range, or Gunner's zip lines become electrified and damage anything it comes in contact with, but also causes dwarves to take damage when touching/riding them.
Perks.... this needs to be addressed, it's an elephant in the room. With all the perk points that are not used leaves a lot of room for changes or additions, perhaps even class-specific.
Not sure what others think about Space-rig events right after a mission completion or failure... like a Rockpox containment breach, power outage, beer spillage/shipment, etc. Make them rare. Heck, a prime example could be an asteroid hit the rig and damaged where you're able to GO OUTSIDE THE SPACERIG to help the maintenance crew repair (instead of trying to prevent us from getting out into space 🤣) Modding probably helps with a few of these things, but would be funny to have a PropHunt mode on the rig, or laser tag. Adding in some actual PvP modes.

You know, for some reason I'm starting to get similar vibes between DRG and the Warframe that existed back in like, 2014 or so. I think it would be cool if there was more suit modification, aside from just the paltry number of mods available for them. Like, maybe overclocks for our dwarves' suits. Maybe all 4 classes get overclocks, maybe the driller and gunner share, since they're heavy classes and engi and scout share, or maybe just a common pool of overclocks. I really dislike how little customization there is for our suits (noncosmetic, at least). Also, maybe another page out of OG warframe's playbook could be missions that you have to craft keys for. Like the orokin void and derelict, you'd have to craft the keys. Maybe there could be used for the error cubes or the purple crystal chunks or maybe even special uses for the minerals to craft exclusive mission keys for unique mission areas and objectives, aside from just deep dives. Or maybe even super Keys for special versions of deep dives too. I really liked Warframe back in the day, and while deep rock isn't as sexy or elegant as og warframe's art design was, I still love the game. ROCK AND STONE!

Firstly, nice point about the challenge system, never thought about it before, but you are right, could be so much more. Contracts sound neat.
And yes holiday updates are not using their full potential, they could be used to push experimental stuff to see what sticks and live playtest ideas for some short time.
Now, I just wanna say that I don‘t think repurposing the season content into special missions is a good idea. I always think about Path of Exile when it comes to the stuff that can roll in a mission and how great DRG will be when it comes to that with a few more seasons. There needs to be a balance between sometimes reoccurring content and permanent content. It is so fun to do a „standard“ mission and have a boss or event spawn, because randomized missions are what keep everything fresh. We need more for the pool of possibilities and more variety, variety meaning not another „wait till bar is full“ type of thing. Antenna event for example is cool. The hacking is short and there is a lot of fighting and moving in between, but it is also fast paced overall and can be very hectic. Doesn‘t need to be seasonal content though. Could be giving each biome an even more distinct identity with more special enemies and world gen. Or reworking modifiers, so rival presence and lithophage outbreak are more pronounced after a season ends, like strongholds that survived the dwarfs initially. There is a lot of underutilized stuff for a fresh spin: perk system, a lot of the mission modifiers, some overclocks, more biomes, new crazy events, the mission length and complexity having more of an impact on map gen, like complexity 3 having different cave systems intertwined, drillers would go nuts.
I mean they have this fantasy-sci-fi setting and not everything has to be grounded. Ghost aliens and teleport beer? Why not add portals for a specific room of a mission because „magic stones“. Or coming across some kind of key event to once enter a special variation of a biome where you found it after the mission ends, like a hive or ancient temple or forgotten dwarf mine with dangerous special old wildlife and ancient plants and funny animals. Endless freedom for the devs.
In the end it probably comes down to us being too many people who play this game way too much for this small of a studio to keep everybody satisfied. Maybe GSG will expand to counteract this, who knows. Anyways, rock and stone!

I hard disagree on the suggestions to the season pass. I prefer objectives that are broad and don’t force me to play a specific way. I want to be able to progress by just playing; plain and simple.
Adding challenges like “kill a dreadnaught with only a boomstick,” or “kill 20 enemies while on a pipe,” forces you to play in a very specific way. While it adds a lot of variety to season challenges, it really sacrifices freedom/flexibility. It just seems like a tedium “grocery list” of menial challenges that every other battle pass does to pad out playtime. I’d prefer this be optional if implemented, with no exclusive rewards/skins for completing them.
I think the simplest solution is the best, and you hit on it early on in the video. Old events rarely show up while the current season even is too dominant. The best solution is the make old events more prominent. You can even take this a step further by taking past seasonal events/content and repurposing them for the current seasons. S4 for example: if you see the lithophase outbreak on the mission modifiers, then you could encounter enemies/events like a rockpox Dreadnaught cacoon / tyrant weed, or a corroded prospector carrying plaguehearts. Lore wise this would be incredibly fun as well, since we’d get to see how the inhabitants of hoxxes are affected by seasonal changes too.

Feels more like obligation to unlock everything more than a want, especially since most of it goes into the cargo crates which bloat out that loot pool.

I did get pretty sick of rivals and rockpox after a couple seasons of each. I think that's more a me having 1000 hours problem than them totally lacking variety in themselves though. I wouldn't mind waiting longer for a bigger, more fun to play kind of addition than the usual smaller events.
Doing the season events is kinda more a courtesy to the other players than really wanting to do them myself at this point
A caveat I'd have on the contracts thing is that it would really suck if you're having to compete with the other players to do things a certain way, or like have to beat them to the punch doing certain small objectives that are usually just a benefit to the whole team

drg is great for short, content dense bursts of fun. The base mechanics are good. The enemies are good. The weapons are good. So the game is good.
I feel like this game is becoming overcomplicated, and that's seriously taking away from the core experience. Having more incentives to engage with the game (like everything in the season terminal) only makes the player engage in the game in more boring and repetitive ways. Avoiding content you don't want to engage with makes you feel like you're missing out, so generally, you just do it anyway. And then you stop enjoying the game, and you build an addiction rather than a love. I know this because I grinded through all of season 3, getting to level 100 on the season terminal. When I realized I hated how I was playing the game, and hated the trajectory it was moving in, I stopped playing it. And I haven't touched it since.
Which fuckin sucks, because I like this game. I like it for what it is, but it feels like gsg keeps taping things onto the sides of it rather than growing the core. And at this point, I think seasonal content distracts from the game more than it adds to it.

@@FamelhautI'm fine with the battle passes, it's just a little bonus for me. But I'd really like the core to get focused on more than events. We have a bunch of side objectives from previous seasons, new primary missions, new (more challenging) biomes, and things like this would be a very welcome addition.

I'm in the minority, but I really hate tf2 contracts. I'm god awful at games so I just main medic, and many objectives feel unachievable due to my skill issue, so I feel like I'm missing out on a significant portion of the game until I "git gud". Some objectives aren't difficult, but still make you play in such a specific and repetitive way to finish them, I'd much rather just play the game how I enjoy it and miss out then. At least with tf2 it's cosmetic, with this proposed system I'd have to struggle even getting weapons and upgrades to make myself play better.

I think it's not the problem with the concept itself, but slipups from the devs. Season 3/4 didn't come with a new mission type, small meteors are boring, harold is tedious and dragging and otherwise with mission events I don't get people only caring about the rewards and the tíme,difficulty/reward ratio. No really go play cookie clicker if you don't have any better points. With s1/s2 they could make a chance one of one of the "out of range" biomes be active but under rival presence , this would mean 1-4 rival presence mutators and boosted event chances. Same with lithophage in season 5. With daily challenges they could do some whacky and more specific ones and increase the amount at time but fully copying the contract system wouldn't suit drg well, (and yes, some tasks you concepted we're insane). They could also just make quests based on weapons and OCs you DO have-specific for each player

  • @LordZahe

The TF2 style contract system would work perfectly for DRG. If that gets implemented I would be so happy.

  • @Fourger14
    @Fourger14 Год назад +1

I would hate those contracts. I hate them in Darktide already. "Play in this very specific way" mechanics are dumb. The daily challenges are better now because you can just get enough done while doing your other progression: the weekly assignments. The assignments often roll mission types that progress a challenge, and you can pick between two different classes for the class one, etc. Easy to do the last couple missions after the assignments to wrap them right now.
However, I agree with the rest, and I'm definitely tired of seasonal grinding. I preferred just getting content over time from missions and resources felt significant before seasons. Now you just get free resource injections for playtime constantly. Minerals used to feel special based on how they generate in caves and how difficult or easy the biomes they appear in were to play on. Now I never have to go to a specific biome for minerals, despite how expensive my endgame forge cosmetics are, because I'll have enough resources to promote just from playing Haz3 4 or 5 with the lads, depending on how many greenbeards we have. The season performance pass is so chock full of filler minerals and phazy for the shop that the original, unique system of MINING for MINERALS has been destroyed. It's not like you'd pass up a mineral you see, but you don't have to think about which minerals you need, because you just kinda NEED to play AT ALL. And the "play specific biomes" daily challenges don't help with this because like I said above, just do them during assignments, and in the old system you'd consider the difficulty of the biome before jumping in. Most of the time now one of the two on the challenge will be an easy one, so if you don't care about assignments you can focus that one and ignore hard biomes.
Game just feels too much like other games instead of its unique formula these days.

Yeah I wasn't a fan of season 4 even before it came out because I don't like rock pox.
A lot of this game can be quite frankly repetitive.
This game is WAY too reliant on rng for so many things not just if a season event or a meteor or cargo crate.
Speaking of cargo crates basically there is so much shit in them and they spawn so fucking rarely that it's going to take you for fucking ever to get everything from them.
Seriously since I started playing season 4 I have encountered them at least 20 times at most..
They honestly need to address this somehow maybe a new assignment mission for each class were upon completion or as you play it you get the Cosmetics from the previous season the assignment is tied to just for that class.
Also the sting tail is way over tuned its armor is ridiculous it's one weak spot is behind praetorian armor basically and it's immune to heightened senses and it attacked way too frequently and sometimes it doesn't even give you a audio warning plus it disabling your midair controls is just another slap in the face.
So congratulations to ghost ship games for making an enemy that I hate more than Rock pox or fucking goo bombers.
The way how they handled Rockpox enemies leaves but to be desired.
But hey at least we have black people reading game now and it's a fucking hacking Mini-Game (WHY!?)

Played a lot less of Season 3 and 4 too. Season 1 had a lot of stuff, Season 2 had the big robots which was interesting for a while as it was very dangerous and secondary weapons, so there was a lot of content too even if the robots were starting to feel a bit stale. Season 3 had new grenades, not really that interesting all things considered, the rockpox thing was not very interesting either and the cleaning tool gimmick not that interesting. Kind of skipped Season 4 alltogether, played maybe 5-10h if not even that. (I have like 1100h in the game). Not really sure what the thing with season 4 was, is it just that I'm bored of the game generally or was the gimmick not adding much?
Season 4 had quite many enemy variations and 3 new enemies in total, so on paper there was a lot of content, Corruptor, 4 rockpox enemy variations, stingtail and septic spreader as two completely new types and the jetpack, but it just didn't grab me.

Am I the only one that just really hates all of the infection stuff? The enemies are just normal glyphids but reskinned and much more annoying to fight, the rockpox cleaning objective got really tedious really fast, the corruptor, while cool in concept, is absolutely torturous to deal with, the rockpox status effect is just infuriating, and this season’s rockpox weapon cosmetics are a huge letdown compared to the previous ones, no unique models just random rockpox bits glued on. The meteors are the only things I don’t really mind.

Its way too common and just felt like a waste if time + plus a hit unpolished considering there were only three rockpox enemies. Also i literally only got ONE rockpox swarm throughout the entire season. The modifier is entirely too common and tedious plus the reward is miniscule.
