    Thanks for condensing these. I missed all of this as I was on annual vacation camping/hiking in TN/NC. I arrived at my home Tuesday @11pm with barely enough time prep my house. Strange that it took the same path as Charley.

    A storm to remember

    Mesmerizing. It looks like the track took kind of a hard right northeast when it neared Cape Coral as it was moving mostly northward for a while.

      @EarthtoSpaceScience  Год назад +2

      Yeah, a sharper turn was expected as it became more influence by the trough. However some of that was I think because of land interaction. As one side of the circulation feels more friction it can induce a turn as well, at least with the lower level circulation.

      @@EarthtoSpaceScience Seems to be the case for many west coast FL hurricane landfalls. I used to live in Tampa, we were supposed to take a direct hit from Charley and Irma, and they both took a hard right turn into SWFL. Just moved to Cape Coral last year, and sure enough it happened again. It seems like they only discuss atmospheric influences while tracking incoming hurricanes. Do the various forecast models take into account land interaction? Having spent a good deal of time on FL's west coast, it seems like it's time they started discussing that land interaction and the possibility of hard easterly turns while riding up the coast regardless of what the models are saying. My parents are still in the tampa area and were evacuated 2 days out, but SWFL was caught way off guard (though no one was surprised when all was said and done)

      Having just moved from tampa area to Cape Coral, agreed. It was surreal waking up each day and seeing the track shift further south every time a new model came out. Originally they had Ian making landfall north of tampa in the big bend area. Charley, Irma, and now Ian were all supposed to hit the tampa area, all shifted towards the east once they started interacting with land and hit SWFL. I hope they communicate that tendency next time a hurricane is riding up the west coast, it's not a coincidence.

    Great video! I’m in Polk County and even here Ian was pretty intense. Some roof damage and fence damage. Lots of leaf litter in my yard afterwards.
    Also random question, but would you happen to remember what song you used at 4:05 ? It’s been stuck in my head since I saw this video lol.
