Thanks so much for watching and engaging with this video! Really means a lot to me. 🤙 You may be here also to point out the 2-3 glitches in this video. Appreciate your keen eyes and there is nothing wrong with your computer. I had an issue with the FCPX export likely related to a slow hard drive involved in this project that was bugging down my system. After 30 hours of trouble shooting I made piece that this video will have these mini glitches and I will never edit off a disk hard drive again. SSDs all the way. So there is that 😂
Thank God. Finally someone shoots dusk/night realistically. It looks like night, not the hyper-real LED glow that most DPs use where they bump up the ISO to unrealistic levels.
Joey! Your are going to be so huge on RUclips, I hope you understand that! I've remained a consumer of content since I've been 6(22 now); I rarely comment (maybe 15-20 comments in that time-frame?) but you've changed that. This video was so aesthetically pleasing to watch & extremely informative without really wasting time. Cannot believe you have 17k subscribers. Setup looks good, but I think it could look better without just being a backdrop. Something with greenery & colorful lighting. Keep being awesome man! You've earned a loyal subscriber :) Best, - Milan
Thanks so, so much for the very kind comment Milan! This means a lot to me! Really happy to hear you enjoy my videos and will try my best to keep you informed and entertained! Take care!
Brother! Much appreciated for the test footages! My Komodo is coming in 6 weeks here in Cambodia! This helps me getting ready and ahead of my dream camera! Subscribed!
Excellent! You guys got some really fantastic shots of Chicago. I'm sure it's frustrating that there were those little glitches here and there - part of the "fun" of working with a brand new camera. I always associated rolling shutter with the "tilted lines" and a bit of "jello" in the image, but the wiggly noodle guitar strings and bands of light with flashing lights were effects I never give much thought to. Those were great demos of how rolling shutter helps.
Keep killing it Joey.....I've gone on to watch quite a few channels testing and showing Komodo footage but I still rate your channel and footage as easily the best by far. At this rate if you keep it up, you could become an ambassador (unless you already are that is). I hope someday I make enough crown (money as we say down here in South Africa's east coast) to buy this thing one day. Love your work bro.
You are right - I had an issue with the FCPX export likely related to a slow hard drive bugging down my system. Never gonna edit off a WD disk hard drive again ;)
Great video. Every komodo owner has to take a backwards bike riding certification before red will sell you the camera. That’s why they are so hard to get!
I've never enjoyed watching youtube videos about gear but the way that you put your video together is extremely well done and I've enjoyed watching your last few videos so much that I actually subscribed 😅 ... also, I'm now having difficulty to decide between A7siii and Komodo. Thanks!
Hey Joey! Das war wirklich ein hammer gutes Video. Wow!! Ich habe bisher noch keinen RUclipsr gesehen der so viel Arbeit in seine Videos gesteckt hat wie du. Mach weiter so 🙂👊🏻
first off lets appreciate how you filmed Chicago I really wish they made Movies out there the Cities amazing skyline makes it real suitable for Movie production.. secondly this is by far the BEST VIDEO I've seen covering the RED Komodo 6K because of you I am buying this camera I start my 2 jobs next week gonna start saving up I can really careless that it doesn't have 120fps at 4K... i can careless that the camera may produce a little noise NOT EVERY CAMERA IS PERFECT i hate that about Filmmakers who really follow the traditional standards but I've watched so many Movies that have a bunch of noise in it tbh its my personal favorite it gives a more magical look Cinematic isn't meant to be CLEAR the fact that this is a RED camera and its basically within my budget as a low budget independent filmmaker only $5995 is beyond amazing that gives us low budgeters a chance to finally take that leap into the Cinema camera world I would basically consider the Komodo a entry level Cinema camera. and the global shutter is the biggest deal breaker for me that just shows it can compete with its older more expensive RED siblings thanks for this Video will update you when I get it... Subscribed as well showing love from Phoenix, AZ
thank u so mcuh. you got subcriber for putting raw footages. it really help to decide about the purchase and also play around with color to see what u can get out of it. thumbs up :)
Should be interesting to see how it compares to the zcam s6g since it will also have great wireless control/monitoring and global shutter in a 6k s35 camera...
Love it man! That Harley sequence was freaking awesome. I take it you shot all of the city shots with the 11-20 Tokina. Your footage may have just sold me on the Killshock though.
Thanks for sharing this amazing video. You really give this camera the credit it deserves. Your presentation and your footage is amazing. I’m also a Komodo ST owner by the way. So hi!😂
What a great video. That footage is really beautiful. I would love to know what setting you had on the camera for the motorbike stuff. And then what setting you had in Resolve... because it’s exactly right. Might be a good video to show your settings used for people new to RED.
Red needs to bring you on their Komodo team. You're producing images lightyears better than what their cinematographers have come up with. Very unimpressed with their results. VERY impressed with yours. Just shows that the camera you're using is only a small factor! Keep it up Joey!!
DZO Pictor Zoom 20-55 , Hi, Can you tell us about this zoom kit? I am confused about to get Fujinon MK or this DZOFILM Pictor. How is the image quality?
@@Joey_Helms Yeah, please do review the Pictors if you get your hands on them again. We need a good review since they seem to be almost too good to be true (for their price at least).
I would like to see a comparison between the Sony A7SIII vs the Komodo. Because they improved it a lot. I like the komodo, but there are so much negative things compare to the A7SIII. Oh and another question. Do you shoot with the sigma 18-35mm in 4k with the crop? Or can you shoot also in 6k without seeing the edges?
A: you remind me of the guy from “how to sell drugs online: fast” on Netflix B: will you be comparing this camera to cameras like the c300 mk2 or A7siii? C: I am a run in gun shooter that doesn’t have access to a focus puller, is the Autofocus good enough?
C: Autofocus is never good enough. Canon has VERY good AF yet its not reliable enough, dont think this will be much better. You can focus yourself manually tho, its not that hard ;)
A: Ha, had to look it up. B: Will likely do BMPCC6K first - there was a lot of noise around that comparison. Would love to try the SIII though! C: Good enough yeah, but agree with Tom. Unless on a gimbal I am someone who prefers pulling focus myself. It's more organic :)
thanks a ton for the footage! I was able to open and edit it directly in Premiere Pro CC 14.9!! Whats your favorite wide lens for full frame (EF mount)? Currently using the sig 18-35 for super35 stuff but looking for a full frame beast....
I'm so on the fence between the Komodo and A7S3. I already own a Dragon-X, and several Sony alpha bodies. I'm looking for a compact body to do slo mo gimbal work...my DSMC2 Dragon is definitely not compact, and my current alpha bodies max out at 30fps in 4K. l Totally appreciate what Sony is bringing with the S3 and that it's sensor stabilized and full frame score some big points, but every piece of Komodo footage I've seen looks better than every piece of A7S3 footage I've seen....could just be crap film makers vs good ones, but I doubt that's all of it.
Yeah tough choice! If you need a slowmo camera the S3 may be better but if image quality and easy match to your dsmc2 than Komodo flies quiet nicely on gimbals. Even on a Ronin-S it almost fully works (depending on lens)
epic video, some of the nicest shot I've seen on a komodo, impressed by the Tokina cine actually, might get one. Could you get focus peaking through the app? because that's one thing I'm missing as I believe using the app is definitely an option when I have no monitor in my bag
Hey thanks for taking the time to put all this info together! I am waiting my Komodo and I was wondering if you believe from your experience that the REDCONTROL app could work with the new Macbook Pro/Air M1 as they seem to have iOS app support?
Not sure about the app running on M1 (not familiar with that) BUT there is a desktop/IP control for the Komodo that allows you to control remotely from a laptop.
Was für ein krasses Intro! And what an amazing follow-up to your last Komodo video. I mean - come on. This was the first video I saw this early morning. Like a kick in the head. So good! And what a mean combination: Perfect music to the perfect Harley-soundtrack and far to good footage of one of my favorite cities ever. Colors, edit ... all great. 👍 And DJI will now kill you, because you showed their new gimbal bevor the official release ;). Global shutter - yes of course that's awesome. Footage looks much more natural and "filmic" - also in the not so typical situation for rollings-shutter problems.! App - Seems to be great, but I have to check it myself. If the Komodo had an electronic variable ND, I would instantly sell body parts to get it ;) Really great video!
Vielen Dank EMBE! :) Really really appreciate your wonderful comment!!! It's actually all the old DJI gimbals, curious what DJI is cooking, launch event has been postponed. ...and agreed on the internal ND, well the adapter is a neat alternative.
How would Red Control work if you have two Komodos on a shoot? Is there a quick way to switch between which you’re controlling, or, better yet, a way to control them simultaneously.
Hi Joey, Great video here. I have a question : can we put the RED Control App in "client mode" so that we can set it up on an iPad in the end of the client or director without him being able to "accidentaly" mess with the settings ?
Thanks a lot Bastien! This suggestion was already made and I wouldnt be surprised if it will be added. For now it has a 'lock' mode so that may do it, but obviously a client could unlock it easily ha
Just my thoughts... I really enjoyed it and actually am watching it 2x. I never have been able to afford Red except to Rent one maybe until now. I recently owned Fx9 and A7siii is en route. But seeing that global shutter in action. And the IQ. Typically GS means reducing DR. I think Red has something here if they can get that AF system going it will help sell more. Especially those run n gun and doc shooters. But komodo about to get serious competition from canon with its eos c70 rf mount. Amazing AF that's perfect. C300iii dgo 16+ stop s35 sensor with NDs and XLR but no Raw. Price $6299. That will be a komodo competition and also Fx6 from Sony is coming to compete in the $6k price segment and will offer FF. What are using for sound? Be nice if Red sold affordable XLR adapter add on or something for XLR input. Is there any audio inputs at all built onto camera? Also Red Komodo looks amazing but still no news on when it will be available to public. The other thing of note is that dzofilm pictor zoom lens. Parfocal huh? Is there any speedboosters yet for RF mount? The ND adapter is quite nice. Red raw code is amazing and IQ is on par with other Reds even with GS. Tbh this dont even need AF giving all cine lenses are MF. But if ppl buy it thinking the AF is going to be canon like or sony like then they will be disappointed. It takes years to make and develop a state of art AF system. I doubt canon will lease their algorithm to Red. Red will need to hire the right ppl or invest in a company that knows how to build a great pdaf. Once that gets done.. (in a few years) just wow. If you need AF this camera is not for you.. If you want IQ and GS.. this will deliver Red IQ at affordable price. I just hope Red can bring it to Market soon and keep up with demand. Would love to see review on dzofilm pictor zooms. They look sweet too.
the footage at 10:05 - 10:15 seems to have some glitching. Is that from the raw footage or from the exported video? Love the video and looking forward to more Komodo things!
Thanks! It's a FCPX issue I ran into and was likely related to an old school slow hard drive bugging down the rendering. No problem with the raw footage luckily :)

Looks great man. Well done video...
Thanks a million
@@Joey_Helms good to hear! thanks for the answer!
Pinned a comment calling it out ;)
The new iPad Mini might be a really nice size. Larger than mobile, smaller than the iPad.
Great Chicago footage!
Hi, I'm new to the RED

What’s happening with the weird image clipping in this video?is ti from the komodo , post editing software and or edition or version needs updating for better quality and support ect..?
