Hi Justin. You hit the nail on the head several times...make the client happy, keep things simple, work on lighting. You do those things you’ll go a long way. It’ll be fun to watch your progression. Love your videos! Keep it up...please.
Hey Justin, awesome video. Does the BM monitor allow access to Komodo menu? I saw where you did a video on the Portkeys BM5 and that offered it. Which do you prefer the BM5 or the Black Magic assist?
Well I finally got my tilta v-mount and now this... but, "luckily" I bought an ST while I wait for my black version and I decided not to put the tilta on my ST. So then, I'm off to the Wooden Camera site, brb lol. Justin thanks for the practical, honest and simple info and experience.
@@JustinPhillip for real, that's just 175 bucks?? So check it out, I'll use the tilta v mount on the black (assuming I ever get it) and pop the Wooden Camera on the ST. And I got 2 nanos with my tilta bundle. The stoke is real.
Good video, man! Thanks! And I agree with the "impress instagram" thing... If you do your job right and get some cool shots, that's the important stuff! :)
Hey justin, can you please mention the tool your using in order to mount the monitor on the Red's outrigger? i bought the production kit and im figuring out how ill be able to mount my monitor on it! thanks
Hey Justin, just looking at the Black Magic monitor and the website say you get support for recording up to 2160p60. Does that affect your filming in 6K at all? Or is that just strictly its recording limit for things like creating proxies?
Since I have canon speed booster on my komodo what is the best ways to minimize ghosting? Also what type of shots should I avoid (example : avoid shooting with sun as backround etc) ?
That's a common issue with speedboosters and even some dummy adapters. I would recommend getting a good lightweight mattebox with top flag, this Misfit atom is an excellent choice: bhpho.to/3stPXZ1
@@JustinPhillip with the misfit which filter should I put right in front of the lens first the black magic pro mist or the firecrest ND ? Or does it matter ?
Hey Justin! Good stuff. Question for you. I just purchased the Red Komodo and wonder what you think is a better accessory to buy if budgeting. The Red handle that has record button or the wooden camera v mount adapter? I am thinking of getting one and then go with a cheaper option for the other. Just wanted your opinion if you could only buy one. Thank!
I would like to know if you can control your settings ( like iso, aperture, shutter angle) in camera via external monitor. If not, what external monitor on the market supports this function. Thanks!
hey Justin.. I just got my Komodo and I am still trying to figure it out . I am new to RED Ecosystem. I want to ask you how can I get the guide lines for rule of thirds in Red Komodo. I searched everywhere and could not find it. Could you please let me know if you know it.
@@JustinPhillip got it. hey thinking to get the Blackmagic 12g hdr 5 inch monitor. Do you still recommend it ? P.s . Also watched your short film “Daring” and I love it .
@@vaikuntafilms4511 Thank you! Yes i love that monitor, however now i have the 7” version and i have it for my 1st AC. On camera i use the PortKeys BM5-WR. Still get proxies on the video assist wirelessly!
Awesome Video! I am getting a commercial gig from a company and I finally made up my mind to get my hands on Komodo!! I love how you rigged your RED! What do you use to attach your phone as your Monitor?
Neither of those. Firecrest are the standard for best IR filtration, IMO. Their new super slim filters are the bees knees: bhpho.to/3JXxYQX * and the fact that they are so slim, if you needed to go really on the ND, you can stack two of them in one tray because of their new superslim design. and it brings the cost WAY down as well.
@@creativegreats6924 yes they work. Industry Standard. Just a term. But pretty spot on. Most high level DPs have their choice. and the top preferred ones are usually Firecrest.
Thanks so much for the great content Justin! Quick question. How do you output 4K SDI from the Komodo to the 5" Video Assist? 1080p and 2K DCI work for me, but when I switch over to UHD or 4KDCI, the monitor shows no signal and black. I am using a 12G SDI Canare cable.
@@JustinPhillip Thanks! Just tried changing the frame rates and updated to the latest firmware for both... but no dice. I may have to try a different cable?
The ProGrade unapproved media warning happened with me as well. But only with my 1TB one. The 512GB one got no warning. Asked ProGrade and they said they submitted it for Red Approval and that the 1TB should be included in next Komodo firmware update. Maybe it’s the same with the 256GB?
When did The battery mount plate become Red approved? I just checked their website and Red does not list the wooden camera Vmount plate as Red approved. Can your V mount batteries communicate with the camera? Like show battery percentage?
@@TheBoardMovie No it does not. Because the wooden camera battery slide connects via the Komodo's DC Port, therefore the camera just interprets it as being plugged into AC power. But, i dont see the need for battery percentage when using a V mount, because most V mount batteries have an LED status indicator on the battery themselves, and if you're worried about the camera dying, that's the whole point of this video, keep a canon battery on board, and you will always have continous power.
@@JustinPhillip awesome! Thanks Justin! Always wondered what you could really use them for if they weren’t truly safe. Am I okay to be powering my monitor and camera off the same v mount battery, or should I be powering those separately?
@@adamkoepke1366 best bet is to be using something with surge protection, like the wooden camera battery slide, its the only thing i've ever used with it, because it allows for hotswapping, so there is always an onboard camera battery
@@JustinPhillip gotcha. That’ll definitely be a future purchase. Thanks for your help! May reach out in the future with further questions if that’s alright?
