i love live music, I love openers,, I have been known to go to a concert and leave like 10 minutes into the main artist bc I was only there for the opener😭a lot of my favorite artists just happen to be smaller artists and if not for the bigger touring musicians i probably never would've gotten to hear them live bc of how expensive and laborious touring is !!! it really is what you said, you have to at least give them a chance to TRY
i like inadvertantly saw mal blum for three years in a row because they opened for mary lambert and then were the weather for two night vale tours i'm a theatre person and i feel like this is also so so so prominent in theatre spaces (especially broadway) nowadays. people are so fucking entitled at stage door, ive heard of people *singing along*, especially with movie musicals making a comeback, because people are treating live theatre like a movie a nice note is that there's definitely respectful fanbases out there! the starkid fandom at both the shows and the tours are so respectful, and the night vale tours have always been super polite

When security wasn’t quick enough he replied back with, “I’ll take it god dammit!” And did a full nose dive into the crowd. He emerged back onto the stage sometime later, grabbed the mic and said, “Well. Thanks to the lame ass security, I’m going home.” Then he throws the mic down, and storms off the stage, and just like that, the show was over.
i love openers so much like i love when they are unknown i have seen half alive, peter mcpoland, and balu brigada , gamesweplay , misterwives i have seen more but i cant remember all of the ones i have seen and all of them i went in maybe knowing one song but i still had a blast
I saw Hayley Kiyoko back in 2018/19 (I cant remember) as an opener for a Panic! Concert and it was my reintroduction to her post disney. Now she's one of my favorite artists and ive since seen her on her own headlining tour. Openers matter.
i'm a certified hag (33) and it genuinely makes me sad seeing how younger people (roughly 25 and under) experience concerts. it's so obvious how much it's about having a main character moment and not enjoying a show for the show itself. furthermore, opening acts are amazing and show you so much new music you'd never have heard otherwise, and approach these acts in such entitled ways is so entitled. also, it's just unbelievably narrow-minded, empty, self-absorbed and low energy. it's depressing man
I saw Chappelle Roan as an opener for Declan McKenna back in 2018 or 2019 at a small venue in my college town. I don't remember much other than the fact that she pretended for be British as a bit at the beginning. not really a huge fan of her now but I did remember her name enough to recognize it as she blew up.
What makes me the maddest about this is the way everyone is discrediting how good Dora Jar's music is!!!!! Been a fan since 2021 with the releases of digital meadow and comfortably in pain (both killer eps with bleepy bloopy and syrupy electronic pop) and the way no one wants to give smaller/medium sized artists a chance makes me so mad
my brag was always seeing Justin Bieber open up for Taylor Swift(im not a swifty for the record) in like 2010. also a really awesome band called snack time when i saw portugal the man last year so everyone should check them out! super funky band, highly recomend!
