  • The Batman is coming out in March. We are doing a rewatch of all of The Batman movies and Batman Begins was the 2005 reboot of the franchise. The goofy cartoon is gone and the realistic darker version was given to Christopher Nolan. Christian Bale takes over as Bruce Wayne. Liam Neeson, Morgan Freeman, Katie Holmes, Michael Kane and more join the cast. Was this the start of one of the best trilogies of all time? This is just a bad, bad movie. The REWATCH series returns and so do Kristian Harloff, Winston A. Marshall and Coy Jandreau who break down the movie.

Batman Begins is the Batman film to finally get it right. An underrated entry of The Dark Knight Trilogy and a film that is strictly a Bruce Wayne/Batman film. This film really started something after the character was gone for many years on film. Even though a trilogy was not planned the Nolan films work so well together.

its my favourite one. and fav comic book movie, other than the animated The Dark Knight Return Deluxe Edition. when i first saw Batman Begins, i hated it because it not close to the comics at all with ra's training him and wanting to kill joe chill and all that, but all the liberties they take really work.

I love both Batman Begins and TDK equally. I really like how all movies in the Nolan Trilogy have their themes. In this one particularly the motif of fear, loss and intimidation, honoring the people he loved/loves the most by being the best version of himself. Hans Zimmer is truly great, but James Newton Howard deserves an equal amount of praise.

I think many people definitely loved the realism without camp, and the strong character focus on Bruce Wayne, which is a first for these films. The Burton ones focused more on the villains, and the Schumacher ones were fast-paced cartoons, going from scene to scene too quickly to provide any strong, weighty character focus. Previously, Roger Ebert thought Superman, Superman II, and Spider-Man 2 and The Incredibles were the only great superhero films. This was then added to the prestigious collection.

Batman Begins is underrated IMO. When I rewatch the Nolan movies one thing that strikes me is how little they have aged. This movie came out in 2005 and has barely aged a day.....

  • @Major98

This is the start of the greatest comicbook Trilogy. And despite it being a more grounded and realistic interpretation, I think it follows the comics. Throughout all three movies, Nolan clearly took inspiration and influence from various storylines like No Man's Land, Dark Victory, Knightfall, Long Halloween, etc.
I also love Liam Neeson as Ra's Al Ghul and Cillian Murphy as Scarecrow.

    • @tornadochaser2457
      @tornadochaser2457 2 года назад +1

So cool how the movie does a realistic version of The Lazarus Pit, with Ra's "death" and "resurrection" in the film! Then we get an actual, metaphorical, and realistic version in The Dark Knight Rises. The League of Shadows is also a far better name than The League of Assassins for any adaptation of the group, I'd say - A suitably subtle, elegant, and understatedly deadly name to encompass the conversely unsubtle name and power of, The League of Assassins.

Super happy that Winston immediately pointed out that the entire movie is based on a "theme" / that it's dealing with one big topic: Fear.
This gives a lot of context for the following movies as they are based around themes as well (chaos / anarchy). (This at least hints at the idea that there might be *some* connecting tissue in Dark Knight Rises :P )
Loved the episode as always. I totally agree that it was important they turned the city of Gotham into a character. I agree with all your assessments about the various actors and what they brought to their roles. So excellent breakdown and enjoyed the conversation a lot.

I always thought this movie was great but it took a little growing up to really appreciate it. Now I get emotional in certain parts where I didn't really before. It seriously gets better the more times you watch it. definitely my favorite comic book movie. I don't know what it is. Obviously the direction and all the other departments are great but I think it all comes down to Nolan's choice of how to tell the story, in his now typical non-linear narrative style. It allows the pace to be nonstop. The opening with the music just immediately sucks me in, no matter how many times I see the first few minutes.

Anyone who says Bale isn’t a good Bruce Wayne/Batman doesn’t really know the character. He’s the goat and it isn’t even close. I remember when Bale was first cast, I didn’t know who he was. Then I watched Equilibrium and I saw it immediately. Even more than everyone who came before. This guy is Bruce Wayne. Heading into the summer of 2005 I was so excited. It was senior year of HS, College was around the corner but it was Batman I was most excited for. And boy did the movie not disappoint. It was the first great Batman movie. It captured him perfectly. The voice was straight out the comics. “A hoarse whisper.” Fox. Alfred. Rhas. Ducard. His family having ties to abolitionists. Low key taking control of his company. The play boy antics. It was all comics with some cinematic changes. And there’s Gordon. They finally did him right. Alfred was given so much more to do. The Batmobile. The chase scene is fantastic. Batman with the sonar and the bats, straight out of Frank Millers Batman Year One. It’s blasphemy how this movie has gotten overlooked. It changed everything for Batman cinematically and really ushered in the era of great comic book films. Before Cap and Mjolnir, there was conversation between Batman and Gordon and a calling card. “I never got the chance to thank you.” “And you’ll never have to.” Glides off rooftop. Title Card. Goddamn EPIC.

Hey Kristian, have you noticed what Christian Bale does not just with the Batman voice but Bruce Wayne's voice in Batman Begins. I think in his performance, he made Bruce sound a little gruff and aggressive at times, as if he has yet to seperate his aggressive/animalistic Batman side from his playboy/carefree public Bruce Wayne side. And when you get to rewatching The Dark Knight and Rises, Bale makes Bruce's voice sound softer, to perhaps illustrate that he has now separated his two personas.
I dont think many people of have picked up on the subtle changes that Bale brought to Bruce's voice, I think it shows how great and thoughtful that Bale is as an actor.

I see the Rachel character as the love interest. Katie works better as the love interest. Begins has her doing a ton of DA work which plays a part in the plot. Maggie works better as the Assistant DA but the Dark Knight focus more on the love angle, so Katie not being there was jarring.

Jack Gleeson could've been treated as this hidden figure that looks nothing like Joffrey, and it's a somewhat mind-blowing revelation that it's him, even if this take is just to spare Winston's feelings - but Coy just laid down the really, obvious truth. He clearly has the face of a child version of Joffrey.
Obviously, he's a lot nicer, of course. If Batman knew the truth, things would've gone a lot differently in the third act.

This is by far and away my favorite Batman movie. Its 100% about Bruce Wayne and you learn that he is just as interesting in the suit as he is out of the suit. That character work continues throughout the trilogy. My only gripe with Batman Begins was the way the action sequences were filmed. They were filmed/edited too close and cut too quickly. Other than that, I love this movie and its my favorite out of The Dark Knight trilogy. Also, side note, when I saw this movie in the theater, my family and I thought this was supposed to be a prequel to the first Tim Burton / Michael Keaton movie. So when Joe Chill killed Bruce's parents, we all thought that was wrong, because we thought Jack Napier was supposed to killed them. All my brother and I knew was the old series of Batman movies. The term, "'reboot" wasn't a thing at the time, but Batman Begins and Casino Royale really showed audiences what you could do with established characters and do something new with them in new continuities.

This was a lot of fun hearing you guys talk about Batman Begins. Can’t wait to hear your thoughts on The Dark Knight! Hope you enjoy the “I Am Heath Ledger” documentary if you haven’t seen it yet. There’s so much insight to Heath in that documentary into The Dark Knight too.

I did a rewatch of this as well and I'm so glad to hear you three share my thoughts. As much as Dark Knight is my favorite movie, Begins is the best BATMAN movie actually about Bruce Wayne

Most successful directors eventually get too much creative control and get a little lost. This is peak Nolan. Even in TDK he's starting to lose his hold on the 3rd acts. This is such a tight, well executed peice of Batman lore. Setting Batman on fire was incredible. Saw it in the cinema 5 times.

This is it for me. The movie that made me a true fan. See, I always loved Batman. But as I grew up I started to feel I was growing out of it. I saw this, and never once looked back from that point on.

The only thing I wish they did in this trilogy is they explored the detective aspect of Batman. Hyped for The Batman in a couple weeks

These 3 films changed the way people look at comic book movies, and the way directors can film them... I think it was so simple and so genius the way nolan made these films more grounded in reality, because Batman has no superpowers... I love how he kinda says to you, oh you think its not possible for Batman to fly like that, or come out of nowhere like he does, well here's what he does... Smokescreen for stealth, while you're distracted, he using a grappling gun , or he is blowing out a window and a plane is pulling him into the air...far fetched? Well the CIA does it, its an clandestine maneuver to extract agents from a hostile environment.... I just loved everything about these 3 films...

Finally one we can all agree on. Great movie, and i can't imagine there will ever be a Batman origin story better. Amazing they built that Batmobile from scratch. After Batman and Robin and coming out the same summer as Revenge of the Sith it flew slightly under the radar. Perceptions are interesting. It made $200 million at the U.S. box office and was considering a success, while the next year Superman Returns made $200 million and was considered a disappointment.

Batman Begins is an absolute masterpiece. Sometimes I go back and forth between this one and Batman 1989 in trying to decide which is my most favorite Batman movie of all time. 1989 has the nostalgia whereas this is a better made film. One of the cool things about this one is that Nolan struck the right balance between making it a more believable world while retaining the comic book style. Unfortunately, the sequels were a letdown for me, but I'll save that for the next video.

Could you also do a review/watch for the animated two-part movie 'The Dark Knight Returns'? Because Nolan got a couple of ideas from that story for his trilogy.

This movie is #2 on my list of batman movies even tho I'm a huge marvel fan. This movie is the one that made superhero/comic book movies seriously good and without this movie we wouldn't have the MCU, WB realized that they needed to give batman a new start after that garbage batman and robin shit they pulled out of their asses. The way Nolan directed this movie was amazing he brought the darker side of batman which fans wanted from the comics and it delivered very well. They not only gave batman redemption they gave him a respectful trilogy and just a great movie. This is when WB, and DC made the character dark and not goofy they made batman very serious. The only thing I didn't like about this movie was the scarecrow they wasted that character in my opinion, Christain Bale was the great casting for batman, and Michael Cane as Alfred was also great casting the chemistry those two bring in this movie was fantastic. I really think they just threw in Morgan Freeman just to be in there because he's just a great actor Kaite Holmes was ok in this movie it didn't add much neither did Liam Neeson. The score is absolutely stunning it felt like being in different crime scenes and made the movie a suspense spy movie with lots of action. The way they did this movie felt like the true dark batman from the comics that fans have been asking for and they made batman a spy in the shadows. I have to say being a true marvel fan I really liked this movie I haven't watched this movie since I was a freshman in high school. I can't wait to hear what you guys think about this movie, hope you all have a great weekend🦇🦇✅✅ I wish I knew why it took WB & DC so long to make a good batman movie?

The Dark Knight ultimately won the summer of 2008 due to the hype over Ledger's performance and it coming out right in the peak of summer, but Iron Man generated a lot of buzz in its own right.
I remember seeing Iron Man and Kingdom of the Crystal Skull on the same day, and thinking that a major changing of the guard was occurring in the movie industry. Indy 4 felt tired and outdated, while Iron Man was bristling with modern energy.

Did any of you guys read or watch Batman Year One? Many of the beats of this movie are taken from that graphic novel. Batman and Gordon's relationship minus Gordon being there after Waynes are killed, Batman using bats to get away from the cops, Gordon going against corruption, Gordon's partner Flass and the ending with the hint at the Joker except that Batman hadn't showed up yet. He was ABOUT to show up. There's no Raj Al Ghul or love interest. Actually Harvey Dent is already D.A. in the comic.
