  • Spider-Man No Way Home will be releasing soon. There have been many rumors of who will show up in the film. Sam Raimi's trilogy of films is already making it's presence known with Alfred Molina's Doc Oc. So Kristian, Coy and Winston decided to do a full rewatch of the Spider-Man films and they begin with the 2002 Raimi film. Does it hold up? Is it better, worse? Let us know what you think below!

I really don't like this "It doesn't hold up" argument because things aren't supposed to hold up. Everything is a product of their time. Saying certain things in the movie wouldn't work today is like saying the CD player is no longer relevant. Thank you Captain Obvious. Things that hold up are the exception to the rule.

I hear ya. But some movies are made to capitalize on the trends and tastes of the time they are in, and some are made where the feel and tone and themes of the film work in 1930, 1950, 1990 or 2020. You can enjoy them and they are “timeless” forever. Like the original Jurassic park or Back To the Future

@@TheKristianHarloff spiderman 1 and 2 can not be seen in today's view ..those films came out between late mid 1995-mid 2005 when the only real superhero film people loved in that decade era was blade(which was not a true one obviously being rated r) and maybe x men 2 at the time was well liked but like in 2002 x men 2 had not come out and x men's hype died down and blade was 4 years prior and seen as corny/campy dialogue and action wise so spiderman 1 deserves its due for being the best superhero film for an entire decade...x men 2 looking back is a worse film but has the big cast fighting acting off each other which makes up for it and makes people give it more credit then it deserves...blade vs spiderman is a toss up but blade is aiming for something different and is just a more vampire/exploitive gory horror type film because of its source material so it does not really count...blade 2 is not bad either but not on that level imo..a level below..blade trinity sucks

Just finished the episode. Truly freaking loved it. My favorite episodes so far are this and the one with your movie studio buddy with the Tom Hardy story. There a Napzok one that was super touching as well. Building up a solid catalogue. I love to see it. Been fiending for this content again for the last few years. This specific trio just HITS. I always come on here and joke about Campea's show being a smug stressful version of my movie fix 😂 and I say that with love. Campea is the man despite our heated comment debate about Wonder Woman 😂😂😂 we tend to trigger each other whenever we interact lol...but for real I find you and him to be two separate poles of the classic Movie talk genre. Equal in importance imo btw. This laid back joke filled shoot the shit excitement is what's been missing for me tho, which is what the schmoes side always had. Schnepp skrimple skamp soul lives on in episodes like this. I actually watch both you and Campea regularly again for the first time in years. That buzz is in the air. The older I got the more I found the cheese annoying and laughable in this movie...yet even though I still find much of it funny I now find it more charming than annoying. Great re-watch, guys! I won't lie, I still love this movie. I actually like the cheesiness (well, most of it, anyway), and I feel like it's a fantastically done origin story with a classic Danny Elfman score. Maybe not everything holds up well, but I love how this feels self-contained and not like you have to watch "said movie in cinematic universe" to understand certain things. Tobey Maguire is my sentimental favorite in the role; however, I actually think Garfield nailed both the Parker AND Spider-Man role the most (Peter initially has a huge chip on his shoulder and is kind of a jerk in the comics), and I really like the first Amazing Spider-Man and parts of the 2nd. Holland is a great actor, but he's my least favorite Spider-Man. To me, he plays more of a Miles Morales-type than Peter. I'm also not a fan of the Stark suit or Stark mentorship really. I still enjoy his movies and can enjoy him in the role, though. Spider-Man 2 is still a top 5 comic book movie for me, and I've actually been coming around on Spider-Man 3 in recent years.

At the end of Venom 1, before the 2nd post-credits scene (1:47:25) there is text that says "Meanwhile in another universe ..." and a scene from Into the Spiderverse plays. Therefore, Sony has established that in their continuity, the animated and live action universe characters can mix. How they execute that will be interesting to see.

Loving these rewatches and decided to watch it again myself. To me this movie is still incredible. I placed nostalgia aside and still THIS IS SPIDER-MAN. Goes to show how much I have missed the origin, Uncle Ben, a hero's responsibility, and the city of New York.
I realize that they wanted to change up MCU Spider-Man but it only harms the character IMO. Don't get me wrong, I like Tom Holland but they destroyed the essence. Not a fan of the Tony Stark gadget suit and the AI. Yes he goes back to basics to learn the lesson but it's just too far gone from classic Spider-Man.
Another topic of discussion is the age of Tobey but I don't mind it. I relate it to the 1994 animated series where he is graduated and college aged already in the working world. With Aunt May properly cast as an older woman I really don't see Tobey, James & Kirsten being too old.
Keep it up guys. Love that SEN is about the movies again!

To me the most iconic spiderman is the very old animation, and to me Tobey Maguire is the closest to that by far. Andrew Garfield was the worst Peter by far, and Tom Holland IMO has been misused because of the state of MCU when he was introduced. He seems great but I haven't enjoyed his movies as much as the originals. I think I could get into him if they tone down his movies and make them smaller scale.

I think one of the biggest strong points of the Raimi trilogy is the emotional aspect of the relationships. The MJ-Peter relationship with the brilliant Danny Elfman score really makes it worthwhile.
I think Tobey did an excellent job as Peter Parker/Spiderman. Especially in Spiderman 2 where the real life struggles kicks in.
To me I like Tom Holland but I don't like his incarnation of Spiderman. Yes Spiderman is a tech savvy hero but he relies too much Stark tech for me to really believe that he is independently tech savvy. They do show the balance of normal life and hero life in both Tom and Andrew Garfield's movies but to me I can never relate to Tom's Spiderman because he always has that Stark tech backing while Tobey had to figure everything out and make adjustments by his knowledge and instincts

Coy is correct on his take regarding Big Bang Theory (and this was put forward by a couple of folks, not just Coy).
I don't think you guys are correct regarding Tobey Maguire. I've read so many interviews where people talked to him about his preparation for the role. And that he supposedly had tears in his eyes the first time he put the suit on (although I think I read the same thing about Garfield... AND about Holland, too ^^).
I guess I'll have to rewatch the movie... I did think of Tobey very fondly and while I'd agree that Garfield's Spider-Man was more on point and that Holland is the best Spidey overall and that his Peter is also better... I felt like Tobey certainly did the role justice. And sometimes it doesn't sound like you guys are thinking the same way.

The best toby film. I agree #2 is vastly overrated. As well is into the spider verse in my opinion. I actually find it did make sense that if he got bite by a spider that gave him all the other powers, why wouldn't he have organic webs? But I also do see the massive flaw in his lack of science smarts etc. I grew up with toby. But my list is 1. Holland 2. Garfield 3. Toby. (I watched it out of order lol so I'm going backwards on the episodes.)

Why don’t more reviews talk about how physically strong SpiderMan is? One of my favorite lines is from Civil War. SpiderMan stop the Winter Solider’s metal hand and says “ Dude you have a metal arm”. That shows he as strong or stronger than a super solider. He stopped a speed train. Put some respect on one of the strongest Marvel heroes.

I have watched these movies countless times since they first released. The second is still one of my favorite superhero films. Just the amount of play the practical spidey suit gets and how good it looks compared to the overused CG in the MCU. With Holland you don't have the quiet moments of Peter sitting with his thoughts, contemplating his shitty life like in the Raimi films. There is definitely some nostalgia having watched them as a teenager, but there isnt a hint of rose on these glasses.

  • @doomraven0
    @doomraven0 2 года назад

I still enjoy Raimi's Spiderman movies at about the same level as the first 2 X-men movies. Solid C+, maybe B-. I have to disagree as far as the chemistry between Dunst and Maguire. You guys must have watched a different set of films because there is not a single scene in three films that can be pointed to that explains why they would be together or even attracted to each other. Granted this problem only became more glaring after the TASM films because Peter and Gwen's relationship is not only believable but is the central focus. Even when i first watched Raimi's films though, there is zero chemistry on screen except between Peter and the villains. I hated Maguire and still do watching these movies today (he constantly looks like he is actively crapping himself and his voiceover sounds like he just took an Ambien) but i liked the villains and the overall campy feel Raimi shot for. It's just not how i prefer my Spider-Man. Andrew Garfield will always be my ideal film version of the web-slinger and i really feel like TASMs' and MCUs' also do a great job of capturing NYC.
SPOILER WARNING FOR NO WAY HOME:
However, i loved Tobey in NWH. His performance was nuanced and perfect as the older Parker. As Coy said there, this was the Tobey Maguire other fans must have seen in the Raimi films. This made me wish Raimi hadn't made Peter such an unlovable doofus and that Tobey got a chance to be in a solo 'real' Spidey film.
