This series is the reason i’m studying law but I failed my class because apparently “channeling spirits of dead people” is not how you win a court case…. smh…
Funnily enough, I used the trilogy to prepare for a mock trial in Grade 12 where I was going to be the defense attorney. I even used some lines from the games against a witness (well... sort of). In the mock trial, I asked him how dark was it that night and he replied that it was pitch black. I asked him in response that if it was pitch black, how could he see anything? Another question was "How do you know it was the defendant?" to which the very same witness replied with, "Because he has short hair." My follow-up? "So? There are women with short hair. Are you saying they're men, too?" Irony abounds at the end. I got 100% on being the defense attorney. Lost to a prosecutor named "Wright"
Close but not quite, when Edgeworth cuts Gumshoe's salary he shreds banconotes in front of him and gives the pieces to the court. The fact that confetti are still a thing after Gumshoe stopped appearing in games gives us a clue about the sheer number of salary cuts he got
Its funny because the one time you actually had to flash your attorneys badge to progress in the game i was stuck on for like 15mins because at that point i just assumed it never did anything
To give some more context to the whole 'Edgeworth is dead to me' thing, that wasn't just Phoenix being dramatic. After the end of AA1, Edgeworth apparently left the country covertly, just disappearing without telling ANYONE. And all he left behind was a note that read, and I quote, "Prosecutor Edgeworth chooses death." Y'know, like a SUICIDE NOTE. So most of the tension between Phoenix and Edgeworth (and Fransiska, who blames Edgeworth's depression on Phoenix beating him so many times) is that for most of the game, Phoenix thinks Edgeworth is ACTUALLY DEAD, and when he comes back, he's really fucking smug and Phoenix is understandably pissed the Edgeworth made think he was ACTUALLY F*CKING DEAD!
I don’t think Phoenix ever thought Edgeworth was truly dead. That would be a really shitty move on Edgeworth’s part. Plus, in the games Phoenix straight up says “…that’s when I *decided*… the Edgeworth I knew was dead” If he really thought he was dead, this isn’t something Phoenix can just “decide” on. It’s a very deliberate word choice, and it does make Phoenix come off as a bit dramatic (and rightfully hurt). But it’s on brand for his character; he thought he could save Edgeworth and make him believe in the ideals he used to believe in as a kid. When Edgeworth didn’t accept his help the way Phoenix had hoped for, he felt betrayed and that “the Edgeworth he knew was dead.” Which then allows Edgeworth to come in and help Phoenix in turn- Phoenix who had been clinging to some noble, but unrealistic ideals about being able to save people. The Engarde case is Phoenix's low point because he struggles with the very thing Edgeworth is able to guide him through: he put his trust into the wrong client and feels powerless to save Maya, and is in a lose-lose dilemma where an innocent person will be killed regardless of if he gets Engarde acquitted or not. In other words, Phoenix, who wants to be someone who rescue innocents, will doom the very people he wants to save. Edgeworth is the one who reminds him that they are just humans, not heroes. He is the one who tells Phoenix he needs to be careful about who he trusts, and to pursue the truth. It is because of Edgeworth that Phoenix can face up to his feelings of powerlessness and find the truth. It's impactful because Phoenix's anger and feelings of betrayal at Edgeworth stem not from genuine grief, but rather an attachment to being the hero who can save people. It is this flaw that leads Phoenix to his low point, and makes it fitting that Edgeworth, the one who Phoenix "couldn't save," is the one who saves Phoenix from his misguided beliefs.
I don't think that is the case at all. Phoenix didn't think that Edgeworth was dead, but the way Edgeworth had abandoned everything and betrayed his own values hurt Phoenix so much that even when he comes back Phoenix is still mad and doesn't even forgive him. The Edgeworth he looked up to so much was "dead". Remember that Edgeworth was the reason Phoenix started studying law after all.
Ace Attorney is funny because the Phoenix Wright trilogy is an interconnected story that builds up to a climactic ending that ties the whole thing together, whereas the Apollo Justice trilogy is three games that have Apollo Justice in them.
I have only played a couple hours of the first Apollo Justice game but from what ive picked up it doesnt even look like Apollo remains the main playable character in later games which is funny and sad for his own Trilogy

Samuel Beckett stated that "GOD-oh" was the correct pronunciation for the character in his play. Despite this, the name is often pronounced "gə-DOH" in the United States, as is the case in the English dub of the anime adaptation. In Japanese, the name is pronounced "Godō" (ゴドー), which is also the case for the Ace Attorney character. In-universe it could be explained by the original name of the Eagle river/mountain - "Godou" (吾童), which can be read as "Godot", although Godot spells his name using katakana. Shu Takumi himself wrote that this "depends on your point of view". (From the characters wiki page)
Well I wanted to get it out in august but once i realize i wasn't going to make it my internal cope was that I can release it a day before the new game comes out for maximum relevancy
Ever wonder if Maya really DID commit all of those murders, and other people just confessed instead because they were so moved by how determined Phoenix was to reach a "Not Guilty"? All joking aside, 2-4 might be my favorite case. Best way to raise stakes and make a Guilty verdict a good thing!
15:58 it gets even weirder because for like 50% of the case we assume Iris is Iris but is actually Maya being possessed by Dahlia who as a backup wanted to have Maya freeze to death, and didn't realize Iris and Maya switched places so she wasn't possessing her twin sister but Maya all along?
I love the animation in this, and the way you explained it was the cherry on top, I’m saying this while I’m playing the investigations collection, so this is a breath of fresh air
You should cover Madou Monogatari/Puyo Puyo! From non canon books written by an ex-empolyee that the western fandom is convinced is canon but they suck and aren't canon (True Madou Monogatari or Shin Madou Monogatari by the way), remakes that add new plot elements so you can't tell which version is canon (the first three games, Arle's story of ARS), a game that is amazing in every way EXCEPT THEY GET THE PERSONALITY OF ONE OF THE MAIN CHARACTERS WRONG (Madou Monogatari (SegaSaturn)), Sega getting the rights and adding mysteries that they do not answer (Amitie's magic hat, is the Crimson Spirit a victim of a prank that sealed him or an evil warlord that deserved it, what is Ecolo) A multiverse... Its a wild ride! I'd love to see you cover it
Ema came first. She was introduced in the fifth case of the first game, and put into Apollo Justice later (because the DS version of AA1 came before AJ)
Never forget that most of the events in the story can be tied back to some dude failing in a cooking competition. (No I’m not joking if you know, you know)
If you want to understand the pun name Behind “Godot” It’s a cleverly taken apart name from DieGO ArmanDO! Also, I’d love to see you talk about the Apollo Justice Trilogy next if you want to continue the series.

Oooh, thank you so much for doing an overview of this series! The figures' heads are really tiny from time to time, is that a hommage to AA or your new style?
OBJECTION!!! At 13:31 the Phoenix head and the Maya head are in the wrong place! If it were as drawn on that diagram, Phoenix would have been trapped on the cliff, not Maya, and he would not have to “check on her” as the video claims! That deserves a penalty if I say so myself.

It's even funnier if you start to consider the lore from the Investigation games. Like, the whole reason Manfred Von Karma straight up murdered a man was over a failed episode of Master Chef.
You could make a video of each main MegaMan saga; the Classic saga, the X saga, and the Zero/ZX saga One of Battle Network would be fun too, that world is pretty wacky XD

6:38 Ah yes, the good ol' "Counter-Blackmail the Blackmailer from Beyond the Grave" technique!
Gets em' every time!
11:35 GODOT's pun/name comes from dieGO armanDO, the T is just cause funny reverse of what he loves (tea), at least, that's what I think
13:55 yes your honour, phoenix wright is way above human. He can be run over by a car and the only consequence is that he will have twisted his foot
You timed it so that the video gets uploaded a day before Ace Attorney Investigations collection gets released, didn't you?
Well I wanted to get it out in august but once i realize i wasn't going to make it my internal cope was that I can release it a day before the new game comes out for maximum relevancy
Ever wonder if Maya really DID commit all of those murders, and other people just confessed instead because they were so moved by how determined Phoenix was to reach a "Not Guilty"?
All joking aside, 2-4 might be my favorite case. Best way to raise stakes and make a Guilty verdict a good thing!
0:16 no,I don't think I will
My man would freak at the ace attorney chronicles series. They add fireworks when you win a court case
4:01 Love the detail of the coffee slowly draining. It's the little things.
It wasn't just ANY raging river! It was a river that only one person has ever survived jumping into before, at extremely cold temperature!
Omggg his art style changed so much since the last time I saw him😩🪙🌞😼😛
You should cover Madou Monogatari/Puyo Puyo!
From non canon books written by an ex-empolyee that the western fandom is convinced is canon but they suck and aren't canon (True Madou Monogatari or Shin Madou Monogatari by the way), remakes that add new plot elements so you can't tell which version is canon (the first three games, Arle's story of ARS), a game that is amazing in every way EXCEPT THEY GET THE PERSONALITY OF ONE OF THE MAIN CHARACTERS WRONG (Madou Monogatari (SegaSaturn)), Sega getting the rights and adding mysteries that they do not answer (Amitie's magic hat, is the Crimson Spirit a victim of a prank that sealed him or an evil warlord that deserved it, what is Ecolo)
A multiverse...
Its a wild ride! I'd love to see you cover it
The whole trilogy would not have existed if a single CCTV was installed in the elevator.
Or if Greggy decided to take the stairs.
Ema came first. She was introduced in the fifth case of the first game, and put into Apollo Justice later (because the DS version of AA1 came before AJ)
As someone who has never played the Ace Attorney games, I was not expecting a plot twist 10 seconds into the video.
Thumbnail goes unbelievably hard
Ty!
Never forget that most of the events in the story can be tied back to some dude failing in a cooking competition. (No I’m not joking if you know, you know)
9:40 Awkward Zombie's comic Guilty Until Proven Guilty.
YOUR HONOR, IT WAS UNNECESSARY FEELINGS I SWEAR
7:05 I need this as a sticker
If you want to understand the pun name Behind “Godot” It’s a cleverly taken apart name from DieGO ArmanDO! Also, I’d love to see you talk about the Apollo Justice Trilogy next if you want to continue the series.
Its funny because i just got a comment saying that Godot is a reference to the name of a play so I dont know what to believe anymore
@@ChaseKip it's both
Nice of you to release this conveniently timed recap right before the Ace Attorney Investigations collection comes out. Great work!
Thanks!
Great vid, m8. I love your content, and I would love to see you covering the lore of Soma, or maybe one of the DS MegaMans. Love u.
Thanks!
What a good way to start September
Hope you liked it and your September goes well!
Finally, someone documented the 1st Trilogy.
The video looks well-done. No wonder your past videos has millions of views.
Hes back!
I am!
About Godot name: Godot is pronouced Godo (though I can understand why you pronounced it like godot is written) and is probably a reference to the Play: "waiting for Godot"
YESSSS YOU FINALLY DROPPED A NEW VIDEO
Manfried his finger prints in the chemical plant
10:04 i was wondering what was wrong on my first playthrough lol
also, I'd really enjoy a devil may cry video, but that's mainly if you're into the gameplay
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!! *starts foaming at the mouth*
"And leaves the country of Ja-CALIFORNIA!"
You got me so hard with this one. XD. Great vid, mate. Love your stuff.
Edit: Also, dunno if you've played any of the "Tales Of" games, but they seem like they'd be up your alley. Vesperia and Symphonia are my favs.
Thanks, I've heard of the Tales of games but i haven't tried one yet, i gotta put it on my to due list for sure
It's even funnier if you start to consider the lore from the Investigation games. Like, the whole reason Manfred Von Karma straight up murdered a man was over a failed episode of Master Chef.
11:34: Don't worry, we'll all wait for him.
Yo-kai watch would honestly be a decent game to cover. Pretty good story across the trillogy.
oh hell yes.
I would LOVE love love for you to do Danganronpa tbh lol
You could make a video of each main MegaMan saga; the Classic saga, the X saga, and the Zero/ZX saga
One of Battle Network would be fun too, that world is pretty wacky XD
What a powerful thumbnail.
Yo my boi is back with another banger..
you know it's a good day when Chase Kip uploads! who needs upload schedules when you have pleasant surprises like this!!
10:41
"J- *C A L I F O R N I A* "
Since you already made videos on XC1 and XC2, and video on XC3 would be fire imo
You know... I sometimes forget it's a mystery solving funny Attorney game between all the Phoenix/Miles "complicated feelings". (those two love doves were my teenage years ngl)
Godot seems to be a reference to Waiting For Godot
Id love to see an explanation of FFX in your artstyle! Also i love how you improved over time, really impressive!
Appreciate it!
@@ChaseKip skibid bro I appreciate you Godbless
Did not expect this but appreciate it anyway
Glad you like it!
omfg you actually did it. THE MAD LAD MADE THE ACE ATTORNEY VIDEO. i love you chase and thank you so much for this
UNNECESSARY FEELINGS LMFAOOOO
