they nerfed the amount of exp smelting gives in the full release my reconmendation is just killing heeps of deviations at poi's to get like 200 to 500 exp per minute depending on your gear and speed at killing and elites/bosses are also not bad exp hope this helped :)

If anyone is curious, they changed this upon full release you get about 89 xp for a full stack of steel now.
