As someone who's worked boring jobs like doing janitorial work and driving for 1 1/2 hours to work, I've found that RUclips tutorials on various interesting subjects, (or downloaded lectures/talks on things I'm interested in) really make time fly by! There's so much to learn and so much information out there! If it's safe for you to travel and do this, great! It also takes a good internet connection, or a device that can hold data. I hope you find a job you love!

Hey man, just wanted to let you know, i stumbled on your channel after searching for HTML tutorials. Programming used to be my major, didn't do it long enough to go past JAVA and into other languages, but the HTML video was very informative, thanks for that! the Vlogs are awesome, literally binge watched your videos, and they're great. Keep up the great content. The studying videos are motivating, made me want to get more work done outside of uni, and my current degree isn't nearly as difficult as Computer Science so I have no reason
to avoid buckling down for a few hours a day. All the best with the job hunt, i'm in that boat as well!

You obviously get higher chance when you're called for a second / final interview. Initial interviews are often just a way to screen applicants, see if you have the qualifications they are looking for. Good luck with your placement year!

Yess, exactly! I'm making a complete gamble... it's worth giving it a good go rather than not even trying at all. I've got plenty of other places I could also see myself going to, but obviously Cambridge would be ideal... I've wanted to go based on the course and the facilities for a few years now. I got 9 A*'s and 1 A at GCSE, and I know they only accept approximately 100 students per year, so it truly is a gamble. But hey, why not? :) Thanks though, I appreciate this comment!!

Don't you find that your computer get crazy hot running those monitors? I've got my 2014 MBP 15 running a single 4k display and the fans are constantly running. Just feels like it can't be good for the computer.
Hi Jake! What do you think about employers not contacting you for a few weeks after your final interview and making it to the top 3? (Even after sending a update email about the position)
Been there 3 times, twice they didnt even bother to reply. I think it is kind of rude when you go to multiple interviews, make it to the final phase and they don't even bother to tell you that you didnt make it.

My old flat was actually closer to Victoria but this one is nicer and does cost more. Rent is a huge chunk of my salary but it's doable.

In total I have a 90minute commute each day, and I hate it. I seriously considered offers with less money but only 30min commute.

what level roles are you applying for ? developers are in such high demand I'm surprised it's taking you so long to get snapped up. Would you think some employers don't like the youtube channel and think you might be sharing too much of work related stuff on public forum ?
It really doesn't matter what level you are applying for or your online activities. The problem is companies are searching for top of the line programmers but paying entry level salaries and many senior devs turn down those positions. Plus, the developer job market is over run with staffing agencies and "fake" job postings. I'm a developer and it took me a LONG while to find a job after I finished my master degree. I have done numerous projects on my own to build up a portfolio like mobile apps, games, websites, everything I can learn while I waited for a job. I kept getting hundreds of calls from staffing agencies telling me to fill out job applications on their web site and turned out most were fake and they just post them to get traffic to their site and so they can collect information. It's horrible. I finally got a job as a developer but it's pretty underpaying but I took it because it was all I got lol.
