Jake: gets the 4 TB hard drive to be able to edit videos from the internal drive
Also Jake: doesn't release a video for the next 18 months
I hope you are not dead
either that he got covid or got wife and kids
Nah, he got twitter
Unfortunately...😭
I saw your iPhone unboxing as well and it's clear that you really take care of your items and make them last. I respect that.
Been watching you for a while now and your videos bring me such comfort and calmness
Glad Jake is back
Wow Jake! I thought you quit RUclips! Glad you're back!
Very good. I’d like to hear about your M1 dev tooling, such as Golang, Docker, etc. Please also give us a 3 month update!
Yes!! Likewise.
Omg a Jake unboxing review this is the content I subscribe for
I just upgraded from my mid-2012 13” i7 MacBook Pro! So far I’m LOVING it. I have the same specs as you but my SSD is 1TB as well as space grey. Congrats!
I was just thinking about your videos yesterday haha nice to see you uploaded!
I think you’re the only person I’ll watch an unboxing video from
I enjoyed this one as well keep making videos
Wow I can't believe I have been following you for this long. Glad to see you here. Congratulations on the upgrade, hope it treats you well!
me too, I remember watching that 2012 MBP unboxing.
I just unboxed the new 16" MacBook Pro with M1 Pro about an hour ago! I am so excited to check it on RUclips channel and your video just popped up! I am soooo happy! : )
My 2012 McBook Pro suffers from kernel panic too, what a coincidence. It's basically a brick now, and I'm kinda sad because I love everything about it when it works. Multimedia softwares are somehow more optimized than other laptops in its time, and it's just beautiful.
Enjoy your new Mac, Jake!
I miss you on RUclips. Nice to see your videos again. ☺️
Great to see you upload Jake! :)
He always unboxing something 😂
And your HTML beginner video help me alot as I have practical in school yesterday , do u remember it's 11 yrs ago .
Luv yaaaa 💛
Thank you Jake really appreciate this! Chrismas has come early for me.
Always good to see another vid Jake. I felt the emotion having been with you and the laptop throughout your Uni journey. Onwards!
He is a scammer pls don't reply and pls register a complaint in local police I have done to ...

Could you make another video after using the new MacBook for a couple days? Would be interesting to get your perspective as a Software Developer. I’d like to know about the pros just as much as the cons.
Glad to see a new video, from you. 😊
I just bought exactly the same laptop. Worth the wait! TEAM 4TB 4TW.
This video came up in my recommended videos and when I started watching, you reminded me of a British tech RUclipsr from 10 years ago. Turns out you’re that guy… can’t believe you’re still doing videos. You were the first person I watched on RUclips and the first video I watched was the Apple universal dock review… crazy. I’ve got 10 years of videos to catch up on now.
Two weeks later and I’ve watched all your vlogs. I’ve loved your videos. Can’t wait for more.
No annoying music...intro...outro...perfect
What a nice video Jake. And congrats you really treated yourself with a great Mac. As I always say its money well spent in your case, and I am sure you will edit many videos and make good use of it and make it worth. I ma trying to decide between the 14 and the 16 inches, leaning more towards the 16 M1 Max, I know its way overkill for my use, but I need the multi monitor setup, and a fast laptop. The 32GB vs 64GB Is also what I am considering, happy with 1TB as I don't keep too many thinks in my ssd. I need to think this weekend and decide, shortage of stock and delivery dates is crazy where I am based. You got a new subscriber here mate! Regards.
Is everything alright w him? I don't see him making videos anymore.
I'm upgrading from a late 2011 macbook pro 13 inch to a 16inch base model silver which is now somewhere in the mail :D. Just about managed that 10 year mark with the old one which just demonstrates the build quality of these machines - this upgrade is going to be insane!!! Hopefully it arrives before xmas since i ordered it last week :D
Now please upload a video😢
I hope you prevail in your battle with mental health and come back stronger for all your fans who rooting for you…hang in there…you got this 💪💕🚀
This was a great video!! ALL of your videos are great. I have to say that I really miss your videos. I know your working at Monzo full time, and I am sure your probably sick of doing videos, you have been doing them for a long time! I am hoping that you will find your passion for RUclips again and we'll see some videos. If not, then best wishes to you for the future, and good luck with the new MacBook Pro. They are awesome systems!! Worth every penny.
Take care Jake
Huge props for getting the PERFECT 14" config! The 32-core GPU is power limited in sustained workloads, so it's not very worth the price, and the 64GB RAM will keep you going for years! You will definitely be getting your money's worth out of this.
Not really. the 32-Core GPU is still stronger than the 24-Core GPU. Although under sustained pressure, it may have a 5% decrease in performance but even with that decrease it is still stronger. Also, the difference in price between 24 and 32 is not really much. Nevertheless, the config he picked is amazing and will last for years. I also got. the 14" fully maxed out and have not been able to limit the performance by workload even if I tried. This thing is a monster I am unable to utilize the whole power haha
@@mova_2020 the 32 gpu is marginally stronger in most tests related to video editing or 3d rendering. I think the 24gpu is a better choice on the 14 inch not only because of the throttling on the smaller chassis, but also because it should theoretically give you more battery life than the 32gb with practically the same performance.
He said that he got the Max due to external display limitations on the Pro.
@@chrischoy9 you also need the max for 64gb of memory
That iMac unboxing is still the most excited Jake. So the next time Jake upgrade will be in 2030?
Really nice video Jake! What it is really interesting is the reasons of why you chose particular spec! Thank you for sharing! For a small computer. Would you go for a new iPad Pro or one of the air laptops?!
Greetings from Exeter :D!
Hey Jake cool video! What speakers have you got?
just found this channel...only to see its been 2 years since a post. Love the videos to bad you do not post anymore Take care.
Nice video! Jake, I wait for your next videos, how are u btw?
Congrats. I got my first MacBook pro in 2012 as well. Also got my MacBook pro with m1 pro processor few weeks ago. :-D
I switched from my MacBook Pro Retina Mid 2012 with 8 GB of RAM and 256 GB SSD to a M1 MacBook Air with 16 GB RAM and 1 TB SSD beginning of the year. So far no regrets…
I hope you're doing alright Jake, miss you :(
could you make a part 2 to your javascript 12 minute video? the first one was awesome, keep up the good work brother!
Jake! Where are you!!!???
One excited Jake.
What's going on? Where are you?!
Hopefully with this new machine, you can make more videos more frequently 🙂
Hey Jake bit of a long shot but I remember a old video of yours where you show a new coat you had bought and can't find it anymore, you wouldn't happen to remember which one it is?
The hard drive issue seems to be an issue with the pro lineup this year. I hope it’s just a software issue that’ll get fixed
Can’t wait to get mine
RUclips did its job.. shared your video asap.. and i stopped everything.. to watch this unboxing.. Like many of us.. i have followed you for years.. seen the old laptop in your world and can appreciate the emotional good bye..
Where are you jake
Its been 2 years since you uploaded
I initied and graduated in the same years as you from CoSc, hope you are ok. Cheers.
my 2012 macbook had the same exact issue 5 years ago lol and the repair center said it was a motherboard replacement fix
Where is Jake ?
Congrats I purchased 14" MacBook Pro with M1 Max 10-core CPU, 24-core GPU, 32GB memory & 1TB since I have LG 5K monitor and use it for photography and I am very happy with mine too. Purchased SanDisk 2TB Extreme Pro SSD V2 for $270 USD on sale with write speed 2000mb/s speed not as fast internal SSD but fast enough for Photography. Cost of my setup was $3099 USD minus $750 trade in for my 2016 MacBookPro. Total was $2349 for my 14" plus SSD 2TB gives me 3TB for $2600.
I have the 16 inch, and you’re right, it is chunky and on the heavy side. So you you were wise to go with the 14 inch for the portability.
14:45 The M1 macs have dedicated hardware for video encoding. Thats prolly why it does not bother using the GPU. An ASIC will always outperform software/general purpose computational units such as CPU or GPUs.
I will probably get the same one, just 2TB instead. I might wait for the next generation though. My 2018 is working fine, for now :)
JAKE COME BACK
WHERE ARE YOU!?
Also on an unrelated note, what do you use now instead of Docker Cloud for deploying containers? I feel like Digital Ocean is so expensive.
Nice, I remember how I felt unwrapping mine. New Subscriber,😊😊😊
I love the new square-ish design
Can you make a video after you plug in the new Mac to an external monitor, please? I've got the M1 and using an external monitor is a nightmare if it's not one of Apple's 4k monitors. I've got 1080p and 1440p and the text is so fuzzy it's unusable. With some tricks and third-party software kind of fixes it but it's not ideal.
I'd like to see how it is, for you, with M1 Max.
The issue with your old macbook pro is a battery issue. It needs a new battery. I also had 2012 retina 15 and had same problem, switched battery in 2017 then eventually it started happening again last year. Then I upgraded to macbook air m1, it has crazy battery life.
do a video on how to maximise on all its features. im a student and you used to be one so it could be a good video
This was a great RUclips channel.
Ok i got this just now and I used windows for 10 years now, kindly consider putting up some app content for this machine, it's just overwhelming
i think you should keep the old macbook pro. because the price of the old machine is very low and you have a lot of memories on old machine! it's priceless
Looks like this speedy MacBook Pro has enabled him to upload even more youtube videos. Or perhaps not.
Thanks sir.i really enjoys to see that mac unboxing. now,i pray for u to get good health and keep supporting to you.and also hope so to wear trousers. be peace sir😇😇😇
The strange behaviour with the boot times was because the M1 didn't have FileVault encryption enabled, when FileVault is enabled it goes to the login screen very quickly so it can decrypt once you put the password in
omg. the notch. i just cannot even.
So that means more videos Jake!?
where did u get the office chair? looks comfy
Wow I like the silver color very much more than the already outdated space gray!
A shame you stopped vlogging, you have so many great videos...
Where have you gone mate.
Nice! I can't wait for mine to arrive next week! I settled with 32GB and 2TB storage. I wanted to go up to 64GB as well, but I also couldn't do it, and my bank account would just hate me for it even with a student discount, it's still very expensive. 😭
Damn thats almost £3k even with discount lol. I went all out and paid £2.1k (with student discount) for a highly speced MBP retina 15 back in 2012 while at uni. Traded in the macbook and upgraded to macbook air M1, got £180+150 bonus back. I just use it for watching movies mainly nowdays.
When did you order it?
Props on the self-restraint to wait 10 yrs to upgrade
That certainly is a big upgrade from mid-2012 macbook pro. I have the same one, no major issues apart from 8gb memory and 9 year old battery. I'm not sure if upgrading those is worth it on an old machine
Just get the new one, it’s time!
@@FRonTLinES10064 I'll wait and see what next year brings
@@mariarehman You’ll be waiting forever with that logic. Just get it now…
I also have the mid 2012 mbr and hope/plan to buy the 14 inch in the near future. Mine has been stuttering a bit, so I can't get wait to get this one.

Hi , Jake how are you? I saw you dind t post fore a while and I hope you are doing good. Have a nice day!
No excuses for more consistent uploads now ;)
Watched your video 7 years ago. Can’t believe that I am going to the UK to do my master’s degree
Do you use an external mouse? Apple smart mouse or something else?
I ordered my 16" end of October. Got an estimated delivery between 16th and 23rd of December. Just got shipping notice it will be here on the 21st! Can't wait to get my hands on it. Thanks for sharing your unboxing.
You remember your RUclips Password Finally!
19:03 "You've been a good laptop." - I'm oddly reminded of xkcd 695, which summarises roughly as "Have I been a good Mars rover?"
did you reinstall osx on the 2012? that might salve the problem.
Congratulations. I went with an M1 iMac, mainly because I didn't need a (portable) laptop and the incredible screen.

The Goldilocks reference haha
We wanted more cooking!!!
did you try a new cpu termal paste on the old mashine?
Next week, Jake will be reviewing his new carbon fibre Lamborghini with gold alloys.
He's alive
Macbook air coming soon. Insanely jealous :D
Would love to get a 64gb for insane usage of VM's :)))
Creat more vlogs or videos. I am from India.
Post regularly dude
The Air looks really cute compared to 14" pro!
Monzo coloured jumper, you really are repping the brand
👍 Did you also purchased Applecare?
I thought jake would be a huge content creator but looking at his channel today for the first time since like ten years ago when i first was interested in html and coding i guess he never picked up the constant video making that alot of people do like the unity tutorial people
He has the ability...I think he's probably too busy or just not interested
I bought a Dell Dimension 8300 back in June 2004; 3.0 Ghz, single core HT and 4 GB of ram as an engagement present to my (then) wife and packed it into suitcases and took it all the way to Transylvania. It then came back to England after we got married (in Tulcea), My wife left me six years later for a rich guy and left "The Dellraiser" behind. I was so poor during those dark years it was all I had. I played a lot of "Guild Wars One" on it (still play that game to this day - it's a classic). It finally died in Oct 2020 (built my own machine - Ryzen 5, 3600, hex core (ryze of the machines)). Second hand, the base unit was worth around £35 on Ebay, it was electronic junk but I can fully empathise with getting attached to machines that have served us so well and gone the distance. #RIP DellRaiser
