The difference between Sporting and Braga is not just having a good manager. It's about the amount of fans that don't let the club fall in to obscurity. Sporting, Benfica and Porto always had millions of fans but Braga is a very local club and thats makes it weak at the long run. That's the reason why the big 3 never been relegated from the first division and probably never will.

Im a Benfica fan, and a major problem for Braga right now is also their stadium. The city of Braga is having a giant flow of new residents, that means a lot of new potencial supporters, But with a stadium thats really remote how can you atract new people, and at the same time keep the old supports comming in? Its a lot of problems in just a single club for them to be abble to lift the lift.

I've heard that excuse so many times and I don't understand why people in Braga still use it. It's only 1.34 km from the city center! It's still within the urban area of Braga.
In comparison Porto stadium is 2.64 km from the City center. As for Benfica, even Marques de Pombal where the championship celebrations are held is 4.30 km from Estádio da Luz.
Let's look outside Portugal, look at Juventus which is located 5.53 km from Turin city center, or Bayern Munich which is literally located outside the urban boundaries of Munich, it is located 10km from the city center.
So when I hear Braga fans complaining that the stadium is too far, I just laugh...

As a Braga supporter I must say must of us agree with you regarding Salvador, we recognise he has done a lot to take the club to a new level but now we believe it is time for a new president to take over. Salvador doesn't have the ambition necessary to take Braga to the same level as the 3 giants. He has left us great foundations, a young promising squad, great academy and facilities but now we must build on that. Besides he is very corrupt which has cost a lot of money to the club.

  • @ThePositivelyPortugal

Braga does not win the league because António Salvador does not want to. They are a feeder club for PSG. That ownership group from Qatar has a 30 percent stake in Braga. Salvador pockets the money, is very happy to finish 4th, and could not possibly care less. As someone who is a fan of Portuguese football and makes videos every week, I agree with you that the league is corrupt. But while Sporting and Porto have benefitted, Benfica is on a whole other level of corruption. Their game at Moreirense last month was more scripted than pro wrestling. But it happened in Portugal, so almost nobody noticed.

The way you picture Braga's history as being founded by Sporting fans answers your question. How can a group of students in Braga be already supporters of Sporting when the club had like 10 years of existence (SCB already existed in 1919, although unofficial), and only played regional matches? Y'all can't perceive portuguese football history without involving the three main clubs somehow.

The founding of Sporting Clube de Braga is controversial. There are several documents dated 1919 where you can find references to the existence of SC Braga. However, the SC Braga institution was legalized and approved on January 19, 1921, making it the official date of the club.
Regarding the equipment, the version of sympathizing with the city's Sporting and Benfica fans is erudite and has few bases. The fact is that before the club was legalized, the color of the shirt was green and white, just like Stromp equipments. However, the club's statutes have always defended the red and white shirt. And then, as you mention in the video, the white sleeves, due to the club president José Antunes Guimarães being an Arsenal fan.
Regarding the rest of the video, I can agree with what you say. Since the 21st century, it has been Braga's “Golden Era”, until today.
Despite everything, the differences between the “Big 3” and any other Portuguese club are enormous. Decentralization of television rights, marketing, the lack of solidarity of the “Big 3” in sharing European money with other clubs, the lack of people supporting the local team, etc… All this increases the gap between the “Big 3” and the other clubs.
I'm not going to talk about the corruption of Portuguese football and the fact that referees benefit Benfica, Porto and Sporting because this is a reality in Portuguese football, but despite everything, Braga had teams that I considered that were superior even to the “Big 3” and they still weren't champions. Mainly because of the reasons you mentioned in the vídeo about the benefits to the “Big 3”.
In 2009/2010, the championship dispute with Benfica, dubious decisions emerged, with arbitrations and punishments for players that heavily penalized the club. Hence that year was ironically referred to as the “Campeonato dos túneis” (“Tunnel Championship”).
Regarding the club's current president, I disagree when you say that Braga didn't and can´t become champions because of him. It's just difficult to be Portuguese champion with any club other than the “Big 3”, because of the reasons mentioned above and in the video. Salvador makes good money selling players, even to the “Big 3” and in return receives renegade players from these clubs and sometimes transforms them into great players, such as Alan and Palhinha for example. Also Braga produces excellent coaches. But keeping these coaches is a problem because they leave for clubs with more resources. The only thing I'm afraid of, is the club's approchement with PSG. PSG players go to Braga and then leave for reduced prices. And partnerships with national or foreign big companies never yield good results. In Portugal we have cases like Salgueiros, Beira-Mar, Belenses, Desportivo de Aves etc…
Also Braga is expanding their academy, in the long run it will be very profitable for the club. Also I want to highlight the investment made in women's football, which has been already portuguese champion, in futsal which is already starting to win titles and in beach football, where it is debatably the best club in the world in that sport.
I hope one day to see Braga champion as well as other clubs, but for that to happen portuguese football has to change.
Thank you for reading this rant, greetings from a "Braguista".

I get that I might have been a bit harsh on Salvador but I genuinely believe he's a little bit impulsive at times. For example, what do you think about the dismissal of Daniel Sousa? I could be wrong but it killed any title aspirations right from the get go.

    • @carlosbraga311

@@ThroneFC To be honest, Salvador sometimes is a bit of a fool. Let me be clear, that as a person I don't like Salvador, but as president of the club and for what he did, I respect him. Daniel Sousa was a misfortune. He had a good campaign last season in Arouca. Braga didn't lose any games with him, but the fans didn't like the way he played. Braga won games in the Europa League with poorly performances. The draw with Estrela in the first round was more bad luck than anything else. I don't think It should have been fired althought he wasn't ready to take this big leap in his career, but I believe he and Salvador had some problems behind the scenes. Well this year it would be difficult to get into the top 3, especially because Benfica, Porto and Sporting are playing well. Also The fight for the european spot will be very competitive.

Braga needs to join and beat the big 3 if they want to a big 4. Its getting harder and harder to join as Sporting CP get stronger and are now the strongest team of Portugal, that Braga arguably were better. The big 3 are strong at the moment. I don't agree with you when you say that Braga shouldn't sell to their rivals because that's not the main issue. Sometimes their sales are a success and other times their are not (David Carmo for FCP, for example).
The main issue is the league. The league is organised to benefit the 3 giants and makes our league quite boring. It's common practice to invite the top 3 to make decisions that will affect everyone. And, even though Porto has been talking about protecting the interests of the small clubs in the north, it hasn't until now been capable of changing the system.
One thing that keeps happening in our league is clubs falling to pay their debts or to their players. They usually make gambles to trying to make it closer to the top and spend much more than they are going to get.
