- The Avelia Liberty, or "Acela II" is the future of high speed travel on Amtrak's northeast corridor route. These new trainsets will replace the aging Acela Express fleet in the near future and will provide smoother ride quality and faster travel time for NEC riders.
5:42 is where you go to see the new acela train for the last :52 seconds of the video 😒.. you’re welcome
The rest of it is just to please the algorithm?
E. Andrews but the rest is on 100,000 videos titled as “railfanning”. The point is, the video could have been labeled as “railfanning with a special catch” or something like that
Cubbie He showed the Liberty; the video was short. I see no issue
Chicago 90278 waiting nearly 6 minutes to see the new train at the very end is a short video.. oh ok.. meanwhile the video could have been cut down to 2-3 minutes like some RUclipsrs are doing that are looking for this train specifically.. not the whole video of trains that people can pull up on any video
Cubbie have you ever heard of skipping ahead?
3:13 buffers in "murica"
*shudders*
@Tech 83 Studio I am confusion 🤣
We have buffers here?
*HERESY*
I also felt something was wrong but couldn't tell why. The couplers, too.
Testing in the middle of a pandemic here. But it’s good to see them testing after a long time
You mean Pan "HOAX"
redman masonji wtf?
Perfect time for testing if you ask me. Less traffic on the rails.
Bryce Hosseini makes sense. Facts
redman masonji pan “hoax”?? You sound like Donald Trump.
2:50 that machine has European-style couplers and buffers. I'm surprised Amtrak hasn't fitted that machine with knuckle couplers
Knuckle couplers create slack. Perhaps they want to avoid slack for that machinery.
It's actually from the British.
Good point what Amtrak needs here is the Class 91 aar coupler because it has a slot for the hook
@@seankean4101 Correction, it's from France, Alsthom(the company who created the trainset) is based there
@@shanewalters4171 true we must always remember how we have build all this for the future.
Wow so cool! I wish I knew that was coming!
Lakes Falcon The avia liberty is awesome
Lakes Falcon ???
@Lakes Falcon Too modern? I agree that it is ugly though. The body lines needs a rework. They can change the horn too while they're at it.
@Lakes Falcon Would you rather have aging equipment and dirty service then!?!?!
@Lakes Falcon You do have a good point there, still though, don't forget we just recently bought back train travel, we would've been a car and a plane country if Amtrak didn't become a thing and the rest of the countries would've been laughing at us.
That horn on the new Acela sounds similar to the NYC subway horns.
No
Yeah and it’s disgusting
Kind of but the subway horns sound better
Guys, you know it's a two tone horn. That's the low tone
They only have that horn because a European company manufactured the train, once testing is done they’ll retrofit them with the American style horns.
6:25 lol. All the Amtrak employees taking photos too!
Looks like hired photographers to advertise it.
For the first time of their life they see a modern train, that's quite an historic moment.
Paname514 not true at all
Pity they couldn’t have matched the profile of the locomotives to the passenger cars. It looks somewhat unprofessional.
Yeah honestly
Amtrak is unprofessional they ordered 200mph cars without the proper trackage to go faster, they should have better maintenance and tracks before getting new trains
@@lyricvideos2209 Couldn't agree more there. I know they needed to wait until the Democrats re-take the Senate, but even then, most Democrats don't care about Amtrak. It's a struggle to keep this Nixon agency alive.
Agreed, the whole thing looks unprofessional though, current Acela models like 100x better all around
@@BrendanMacWade Demtards wont exist before too long. They are stupid people. Im black and I know better than any white man that democrats are waste of fresh air.
I don't know why, but the horn at 2:10 by the ACS-64 sounded very soothing
Steam locomotives are my favorite but holy moly this is the most Beautiful high speed train I have ever seen.
Nice. The rule of having to sound like a steam engine from the 19th century when entering a platform must be annoying if you live close to the station. Nevertheless great to see some investment taking place and new Avelia is nice (not a fan of words like freedom and liberty..as that is very relative everywhere)
That's a nice capture with getting the brand-new Acela II on film like that, during its trials on the NEC. I wonder if the existing Acela I trains will get re-used on the Keystone Corridor or might get cascaded to some other regional commuter railroad? At just 20 years, they seem too young to get scrapped.
It would definitely be cool to see Acelas running in other colors (like MARC, who still runs the HHP8s they got from Amtrak). I also read on a different comment that the Acela sets would be reassigned to routes with more stops rather than retired. I'd love to see the Avelia and Acela running side-by-side.
The old Acelas will be retired as Amtrak states “Their useful life has ended”
They require a lot of infrastructure to support their operation and are expensive to run. Not to mention they need all high platforms. Amtrak doesn't have the ability to keep two fleets running. They will in all likelihood be scrapped.
jaxtvman there’s a future high speed route being built to be completed completed by 2040. And yes stations will have to be redesigned because it would be extremely dangerous to have 2 tracks. Stations will have to be 4 or more with the main tracks running in the middle
Matthew Hanna Potentially we could see 200+ mph rail in Texas as the project between Houston and Dallas progresses. Maybe one day in California. The Brightline Vegas train also comes to mind. It will never get that fast in the NEC for several reasons, mainly because the infrastructure of the current ROW can’t support those speeds, (catenary in some places, curves slow trains, and you have all that commuter traffic). That’s why nothing goes faster than 135 mph south of NYC. There are plans to get the NEC to 200+ in the future but that means building dedicated high-speed ROW which will require tons of political will, money and a need to overcome all the NIMBYs. I remain hopeful.
Good to see now we'll only be a few decades behind the rest of the developed world in regards to mid-long distance mass transit
I’m not a fan of the horn but that design is on point!
That horn SUCKS
Ehh... I wish the shape of the loco matched the coach cars
@@trolleyman0754 Don't worry, I'm syre we'll be hearing a good old K5LA hybrid or so pretty soon;)
It's nice to think we have a future...
Nice! Hoping to see it in NJ soon.
Awesome catches, also on 8-27-14 I caught CSX Q138 & get this it had a RARE BNSF SD40-2 leader.
Please tell me that horn is going to get replaced with an American horn later on
I agree with you. European horns are the worst.
They better put a k5la on the train after they get rid of the current horn they are using, otherwise I won't ride it
Halethrope right? I was here just under a month ago.
Very nice!
A chiming bell on a 2020 high-speed train seems incongruous (6:11).
It's really too bad that the Acela corridor is restricted to 150 mph. These trains can do so much more.
It’s actually 160 mph on th me NEC with these trains but your right. Imagine if the train was able to go up to its intended speed.
The reason the horn sounds so weird is because it’s a 2 tone and the engineers haven’t gotten used to it. Amtrak won’t be changing it, engineers will get used to it and use it as it was ment to be used and people will get used to how it sounds.
The horn doesn't sound like an Amtrak horn. Is that the one they're going with?
Having ridden "real" high speed trains all over Europe... all I have to say is that our rail system is still 30 years behind.
Jerry Roe We have had high speed trains since the 1990s
Railfaner 232 true but it was only in the north eastern corridor and then it was really between New York and Washington only where as in Europe high speed is on most lines but regardless of that at least we’re starting to make progress

@@MusicmanDavid Sent the cookie to the politicians that have been keeping our infrastructure in the stone age by sending all of our taxes to special interest groups... moron!
Pretty awesome!!
Glad to see the track get upgraded, once that's done, it'll run up to it's fullest potential speed of 220 mph as the proposal promised, until then, we at least got the 165 mph speed record the original Acelas had;)
265 mph? When did the original Acelas go 265? I thought they topped out at 220, max.
@@TheHighRoad1748 Oops, sorry, I made a typo, I meant to say 165 mph, I'll edit it now, lol.
In Spain, I traveled at 302 km per hour (187.6 mph).
@@ednorton47 must of been fun.
@@ednorton47 Once I recorded a 319 km/h speed on my GPS. The issue was that the TGV I was in, an old TGV Sud-Est (built between 1978 and 1986) was not supposed to go faster than 300 km/h LOL (though technically it can go faster).
What’s with the clanging bell? Is this something from 1890?
No......It’s most likely a brass bell or a steel bell that hasn’t been upgraded to an electronic bell
"Is this something from 1890?" Like the whole American train system, outdated beyond belief.
Paname514 The northeast corridor was built in multiple sections to serve individual cities. The first section was first built in 1835 (Boston-New York). Some European rail also date back to this time and even earlier to the 1700’s but they were built as a complete long-distance route and updated over time to higher speeds. Electrification happened from 1905-1938
FRA requirment
@@jaxtvman really wow that sucks. It looks sooo modern but that bell 😬
Great looking train! If only Amtrak and the federal government truly put their efforts to upgrade the Northeast Corridor so that the train could run to it's fullest capabilities (220mph).
Libtards dont care. They hide like cockroaches as if this Hoaxdemic was real.
Unfortunately it will never happen because of the ownership of private property and because of the different states that the train goes through...out rail infrastructure is very old compared to Europe and asia ..those countries can tell a person we are building on your property and thats the final word
@@king_tony215 the govt can take whatever they which shouldnt happen.
Beautiful train. Thx
Excellent Video

This better come to Massachusetts soon
It is. Acela service is extending to Boston.
Doom Guy it’s been going to Boston for years now, they are gonna be in Boston as soon as revenue service starts
@@staycgirlsitsgoingdown2 oops
Where can I find a schedule of where it will be next?
when will it come on the north eastern part of the corridor like new york?
2021 is it's scheduled run depending on how Covid19 and the protests go, hopefully both these problems die down soon so we could be safe
Wow nice replacement for the agong Acela. Hope to see it soon
A K5HL would sound good on these new Acela sets like they have on GEVO’s and on a CSX GP40
I like the horn but it sounds...off somehow. I can't tell if there's a second horn and it's blasting two-tone style like in Britain
I think it’s bc the trains are based off of future TGV trains (same manufacturer) so they have that horn installed. Hopefully they change it
How did a dadgum foreign piece of MOW equipment get onto the NorthEast Corridor???
If you want the job done right, you go with the pros! Gauge is all the same, except for Spain and former Soviet Union.
Awesome video
What station is this with the MARC trains?
Actually, it can be anywhere on the Penn Line (which overlays the NEC between Union Station and Philadelphia's 30th Street Station) - it's why you see MARC and even SEPTA commuter trains in those stations (MARC from Havre de Grace south, and SEPTA from Wilmington north). I suspect Halethorpe (as that area was being rebuilt in 2019 and 2020) and there is a MARC station there (and is just north of the Marshall BWI combined station). I have *other* reasons for wanting to visit Halethorpe personally; the MOM'S Organic Market there hosts the regional coffee roastery for the local chain. (My last trip to Halethorpe was to the Timbuktu seafood restaurant for their crabcake sandwiches - the restaurant itself is off MD 100 west of the station.)
I'm okay with the horn. It doesn't have to sound like a freight train in west Texas. But that livery needs some fixing.
This probably how fast this will go
This is cool
Will it come up to jersey
Shoreline Railfan Productions hi yes it will as a RUclips and a train expert the train will run up and done the northeast corridor and the corridor does pass through New Jersey and the corridor comes under the Hudson River passing under union city before fallowing I95 before hitting Secaucus junction before then separating from the high was and continuing past to Pennsylvania
I honestly don't care about how the horn sounds. It 's a decent train after all. Definitely better than most Amtrak trains out there. If you guys badly want your K5 or whatever crap badly , just go and sponsor Amtrak the horn of your choice and they will gladly retrofit for you. Otherwise , keep the comments to yourselves.
Well! High speed rail, commuter rail, and MOW parade all in one video. What more could a guy ask?
Nice!! How did you find out?
JBtrainman haha this was a Scheduled Amtrak Extra
im questioning why they kept the european horn on it though.
It looks like as if Amtrak ordered a Shinkansen straight from Japan.
My only true hope is that an ho scale version of this new acela is made soon.
The pantograph being so much higher than our EU versions looks hilarious.
It’s to accommodate freight trains running on this route (causes delays)
@@matthewhanna9115 oh I know why, that and the double deckers
Emerald Zebra the AEM-7 had its pantograph sticking almost straight up and it looked soooo bad. They should separate the freight trains from these tracks
@@matthewhanna9115 Freight should stay, just add longer pantograph arms so it bends correctly like ours. Maybe then they won't get snapped
Emerald Zebra the problem with the freight trains is that they are very slow on the corridor while Amtrak wants the trains to go faster trains and since 7 rail companies use those tracks it’s very conflicting
6:11 Anyone notice that the ditch light isn't working? The right light is turned off and the left light is on.
It’s a glitch
I heard the UK used the buffers and the hook coupler at 3:38
Still does.
Can you imagine at top speed on a straight track non stop????
It'll be running at the old Acela's speed of 165 mph first, with the maintenenace making good progress as seen in this video, it'll go up to it's fullest speed of 220 mph, that's way faster than the Shinkansen which topped at 186 mph, until the new High Speed Maglev in Japan is done developing, Europe , China and the US will beat Japan's speed record;)
That's cool! I've noticed that it's going pretty slow. Is that just because it's being tested? Anyways, that design looks so cool!
it had a bad wheel somewhere in the consist so they restricted it to 50mph.
@@CrossbuckProductions Okay thanks.
It'll go faster soon, don't worry;)
165 mph after testing is done;)
The horn sounds like a Leslie S2M
The engines are basically the preview of the TGV 2N III.
Technically they’re more the Alston AGV
It’s the Avelia family the new TGV will be the Avelia Horizon. The Avelia AGV is different
Oh is it? Looked super similar to me so. Interesting!
Yep the AGV is fully articulated but the Avelia Liberty is two locomotives with carriages fitted on Jacob bogies and the Avelia Horizon is the same as the Liberty but in double decker configuration
@@gandalf7292 I legit don't know why they didn't make a double decker version. I mean, ignoring Japan for a second, the TGV Duplexes are built withing the loading gauge of the tunnels on both sides of Penn Statio

I like how this guy calls this the future of travel when our new trains are already outdated compared to many other countries
Matthew Zeng this guy is just trying to make good titles on youtube. after all, it is the future here.
Its alstom's latest model set of their tgv successor which will eventually debut in France.
Trains are not outdated, infrastructure is.
@@CrossbuckProductions actully look at our n700 bullet trains for example here in japan there FAR ahead of this train even our cargo trains are much better....why cant america do a deal with us japanese to make a americanized diesel eletric hybrid thats as good as ones in japan
@@themid-nightclub6123 because the trains in Japan are not as good as the French built high speed trains. They are far superior in technology. And Germany builds much better electric locomotives.
Top!
Was anything in this video made in the USA? Other than the diesel engine in the beginning I don't think a thing on here, especially the working train, was made here. If so Amtrak should loose ALL of it's finding. Maybe the Europeans can fund them!!
Both the old Acela and the new one are built in the US. As is all the other Amtrak loco’s and cars.
Looks a lot like track maintenance equipment. The title doesn't match the content!
Paul Langford Still nice to see construction vehicles in this video though!
Can someone please tell me that the new acela's horns are temporary and will switch over to the K5LA that we all know and love, like god damn that is lame man
They better change it.
Nice shot, it sure has a European design eh?
U G L Y. I'm sure it's a nice leap forward from the original Acela, but if looks were everything it's a step down.
they really gotta get rid of the speed limit
Oh, so you want trains to derail and kill people?????
The paint job in the promotional video was much better than this one...
Amtrak? Future of travel? 🤔
Sounds just like an NJT River Line train. I hope they put K-5LA's on them. That horn is no-good for a 165 MPH train.
165 is just the minimum speed, this bad boy will hit its maximum speed of 220 soon once track maintanence is complete;) as for the horn, I'm sure the K5LA will make a comeback
I hope so. But the current horns are in tight confines under the windshield. The only place they could put a K5LA is on the side of the carbody, like the Amtrak work GP-38's have their horns so located. Or else they would have to almost completely redesign the front to take an internally-mounted split-manifold K5LA. But again I hope you're right.
Geezus what was Amtrak smoking when they designed the new Acela fleet? Seriously it's ghastly af
Nice. But that horn could be better. Lol
HAHAHAHAHAHAHA "FUTURE OF TRAVEL" - "AMTRAK" HAHAHAHA (Greetings from a developed country)
I can’t wait to leave
America only makes the track smooth enough for freight. It does not measure up to European standards when it comes to passenger travel. Even the more modern sections in Michigan where you go 110mph does not seem as smooth as English trains that travel at 125 to 140mph.
Yep. Can't drink coffee without a lid on an American train. In Europe it's fine even at 200 mph.
I wanna see that Acela go fast
It will soon, 165 is just its minimum, 220 will be its max once track maintenence is complete;)
I think I’m the only one right now that’s split in these designs I feel the don’t belong on American rail but I like the look somehow
American rail is failure
What an atrocious looking train. Please bring back our GG1s!!!
Well we could use a step up with high speed rail. But I do agree with how they look right now, fortunately the sets are still in the prototype stage

Blame the Democratic party (other than Joe Biden) - they did not use Amtrak. Instead, they flew - hence all the love for Reagan National Airport. Even prior to the founding of Amtrak, the same party treated passenger rail like the RHSC compared to freight rail; if anything, Amtrak is still playing second fiddle - if not third - compared to other infrastructure. (Follow the debates on "Build Back Better".)
All that to see that ugly thing creep along at 30 mph? This could have been a 30 second video.
that’s exactly what I DIDNT want, a 30 second video. it just wouldn’t look right.
First of all, let me apologize for my salty comment. I have seen many videos of this train, but never a high speed run. I also feel that it is an ugly duck. that nose is awful, and the paint job looks like it belongs on a Fisher-Price toy. the old Acela looks much better.
Amtrak arcela is going to be so jealous...
Not when it hears that stupid annoying 2 chime horn it has, Acela will laugh its ass off in K5LA.
PokeyRailFanning the avelia express it’s gonna be laughing it’s ass of at 186 mph while the Acela is stuck at 150 mph
PokeyRailFanning K5LA is overrated as well who wants to hear the same train horn on every single train that runs on Amtrak
Justyourtypical Gamer dude. The K5LA never gets old
CrazyDash Yt but to be on every train besides the metro north?
These pantographs look very unstable. Why can’t you just lower the OHLE to the european heights? lol
My guess would be that it's got something to do with sharing rails with freight trains... that or some stupid regulation from the 1900's similar to the reasons passenger trains have to be so heavy in the USA versus their European and Asian counterparts, thus limiting their speed
to make double stacker container trains to pass under the electrification
I’ve never seen a container train on NEC, except train simulator.
Do you know what we do in Europe to freight trains on intercity mainlines? We just ban them and force them to use secondary lines for f_ing safety.
There are also dedicated mainlines for both trains but with height limitations for freight.
@@crvcrfing because of government trains. The US railroads managed to get rid of most of passenger trains to be able to transport what the railroad is best for: freight. In Europe the government runs the railroads with no sense of rentability. In almost all countries they cost taxpayer's money and deliver poor service quality in exchange - when you do not consider the high speed main lines only. Almost all the freight is on the road.
That is one ugly unit. Silly curves witn no sense of purpouse or continuity with the rest of the coaches. The designers of this thing have no sense of aestetics. Original Acela is so much better looking, and i thought Sprinters were ugly. Bring back the AEM7s🤣
