So much better than what I was expecting! I love Carl Lewis. He uses every moment he can to teach a lesson.

I've coached for 21 years and Carl Lewis is TEACHER and a coach. All coaches are not teachers. Carl is going to tell you what to do, how to do it, and WHY. Allows the athlete to own it and comprehend the mechanics of running. Athletes can "self-correct" better that way.

Ash Sol you’re willfully ignorant and dangerous. Carl Lewis was told by his first coach he just wasn’t fast enough so he should concentrate on just jumping. In two seasons with good coaching Carl went from just a jumper to arguably the best sprinter of all time. An ignoramus like yourself would have dismissed him as not born with it. The fastest people are that way because they do the most things right when they train, eat, run/sprint and recover.

Being Coach T’s son must have been a ton of pressure. I’m proud of his success though! When we won the 4x400 relay we pulled ahead of everyone on points and won the meet. I remember him giving me a jumping high five and yelling,”YA’LL DID IT!! YOU WON THE WHOLE ENCHILADA!” What great times!!! I’m 42 now, 😂❗️But.. hey! I still got those fast twitch muscles!!! Joeson Savage that’s when you step in and lead your team. Begin with team stretching and warm up. Let everyone know how important this first step is. Then learn something new and useful and put it into practice yourself. This can be something like learning the most efficient way to blast out of the starting blocks. Tell everyone to peep your start at the next meet. Booom! Murc everyone off the line!! Others will see that you know what your talking about and will be asking you for pointers. Little things like this can make you a better athlete and leader. Or try engaging your coach and let him know your team wants to learn how what the best free weight techniques are to help your running. I wish you the best!!

    • @ethankossover6673
      @ethankossover6673 4 года назад +1

By keeping your foot on the ground beneath you no momentum is lost as apposed to putting your foot on the ground in front of you from overstriding. As your body moves forward and your foot stays, more power is generated from pushing off your toes. As he also lists, your hip flexor extends and will ultimately slingshot your foot back underneath you with less energy than you would pulling it forward early.

There’s a massive difference in being caught with Cold suppressing ingredient substances, in the system,as was the case with Carl Lewis, than those caught with actual Steroids and Body enhancing drugs like Johnson was !!!

Right, and Carl Lewis suffered a lot from cold in 1988 - I can personally attest to that: I interviewed him, in February, in Copenhagen, Frederiksberg - Lewis was coughing a lot for those around 30 minutes we spent talking. And even later, during the outdoor meetings in Europe, long before the Olympics, Lewis was coughing severely!

Fluro flash, either you naturally can run fast or you cannot. It's as simple as that.

@@ashsol2657 Everyone of those guys can run fast or they wouldn't be there. The best of them will learn how to maximize their natural speed.

@@crisprjw3051 Ok this is my thoughts on it.
Starting with an opinion as a coach. Likening a track sprint to escaping a predator can lead to the athlete sitting in and tensing up through the run which is deterimental especially in the last 40 where you should be tall and relaxed (this is just my opinion)
As a physio with a biomech background
He points at the hip flexor muscles and calls them extensors
he seems to think that a big stretch of the hip flexors leads to a passive recoil of the muscle. At high speed, the muscle would be contracting to get into position. In order for this to happen you don't want to be to stretched out as Lewis says in the video. This compromises the length tension relationship of the muscle and reduces contractility
I was a bit confused with his reference to the Achilles. For a similar reason over stretching the tendon compromises the propulsive movement of the foot (plantar flexion or pointing your toes) so if it's too long you get less power
His explaination of foot placement is meh. It's right to say you want to contact beneath you. This gives you more downward force and, based on Newton's third law. The more force you put into the ground the more force the ground returns to you (called ground reaction force). The body then manipulates that force into forward momentum by natural shifting centre of mass. By contacting directly beneath you. Your weight gives more force. Contacting Infront is like a natural brake and also increases risk of shin splints and other stress injuries.
Back to coach brain. I would have emphasised the importance of fast contact time with high force through the ground. Again to prevent the athletes from "sitting in" and compromising there efficiency. The greatest runners in Olympic history are so great because they put more force into the ground and are on the ground for less time.
I know this is long and I don't mean to be rude to Mr Lewis he is a great champion (not so great a coach imo). Hope this helps your running A CRISPR Engineer. If you guys want more info definitely listen to Michael Johnson talk about sprints he knows his stuff and is a fantastic coach

Usain bolt could never teach people how to sprint because he wouldn't be able to relate with them.
