The best performance I've heared so far. I've struggled with this wonderful piece for my exams in the late 1980's; it was a joy and a "battle of attrition": more "leathery" than f.e. Ibert's Concertino da Camera imo.
At :10, his playing lacks support and the sound fails... What's with this? This lack of attention to detail bugs me!!! Lovely tone, expressive lines. Every musician must strive to rise above the inherent weaknesses of their instrument ... Muddy line at 1:30, nice trill at 1:44. Formeau is, however, undeniably full of passion :) 2:48, this opening tone lacks support and suffers from an insufficiently supported air stream. Fellow Saxophonists, I suggest studying (for a time) with other teachers... flute, violin, opera. They have no deep understanding of the limits of our horns and can help us move beyond the limits of the horn. Happy studying. Formeau has accomplished so much... All I'm saying is that the best in the field should be demonstrating instrumental facility beyond level of struggling with the instrument. Can anyone comment on the tone of a Custom Yamaha to other horns?

Just meaning that I hope to see the continued evolution of saxophonists towards ever more refined skill sets. I'm guessing you might not have been teaching and performing for decades. My observations are simply similar to the sincere feedback that I give to students to help them improve. Have a great weekend!
Hi, I don't think it lacks of air support at 2:48, I think it's simply a way of interpretation. Fourmeau has graduated top of the class at 17 with Daniel Deffayet. It means 3 things, 1st, he knows well the drawbacks of his instrument. 2nd he mastered saxophone with one of the very best saxophonist in the world who was also violonist. 3rd he does not need studying with other teachers... You're criticising one of the best saxophonist of the world, so please don't advise anything. The only thing you can say is that you find interesting/strange the way he plays here, you can eventually disagree, but you can't advise.

Superb tone and technique - and avoids pad and key noise! Best playing I have heard so far.
