the opening line in the saxophone for this piece as well as the intro from the orchesra are so god damned beautiful, Andre Weignein you did a phenomenal job composing this
I have been listening to this video for 7 months now, preparing for my last senior performance at the Texas solo contest, Houston Underground. Rest in Peace André Waignein, you have made the most beautiful musical piece I have ever heard, and Simon Diricq, you are the player that has made me want to play this instrument for my career, and for the rest of my life!
@Keanan -- Well, sure, of course.....they MUST be distinguished (or otherwise differentiated) from SHORT TONES....or else....we can't be responsible for the consequences......
I started playing the saxophone not long ago and although I will certainly never get anywhere near this level of excellence, the beauty of this music and the perfection of the performance are inspiring and motivating for me. This is why I started playing Alto-Sax! I will come back to this video any time when I feel too tired or frustrated to practice. ❤
Hey Kalender. I'm a 22 year old (been playing for almost 10 years haha but I stopped for about 2 years in the middle) and now I'm learning this piece. Quite well actually. The high notes are legitimate challenges, especially when it's so fast. I thought it was SO ABOVE my skill level even as an experienced player who went through many concerts, many failures and sucesses along the way but now it's been going well for me. I'm telling you it's possible! If you truly love the instrument, keep playing!
@@davewang4369 you move me to tears. Ever considered composing anything, being creative? The piece above is not innovative, harmonically reactionary and Debussy was far ahead of this decades before. Technical demand is not everything. It is dead white music. Btw. 'high notes' you can also produce on the flute, only idiots torture themselves with playing in chaotic makeshift registers on the sax.
@@davewang4369 nice comment, I'm your age and kinda in the same boat. I had a gap in the middle and not the best practice routine for a while but as I start to believe in myself a bit more and actually try pieces like this, I find my practice skills improve along the way. Ever check out the Creston Concerto? It doesn't have as much altissimo as this but it's probably just as hard overall and is a gorgeous composition. Trust me, the altissimo passages are worth the effort! It's very satisfying to tackle those intense moments, and contrary to popular belief it's quite doable over time.
When I hear this again reminds me of the Covid lock down at home in 2020 as I was listening to this everyday, what a difficult yet memorable experience.
Does anyone know the publisher of this particular arrangement? I can only seem to find the wind band accompaniment version. Any help is much appreciated from the RUclips hivemind; thank you!
How do you get this video? I mean this video is from Adolphe Sax Competition. But even the official account doesn't have this 4k resolution and perfect audio quality version. No matter how you get this one, it's really a good job uploading to RUclips. Thank you, good sir.
I love everything about this piece...I often wonder how composers wrote such complex pieces without computers. The orchestra is superb...and wonderful acoustics.. The saxophonist is stellar. I note the long fingers...maybe that's why I've never played well. My fingers are too short. :)
But don’t think that just because he sounds on the a28 amazing that you eill too. Try it, maybe you will like it. I tried it and it requires too much time investing. Play on what you think you will sound the best one day
This is truly the most beautiful thing I have ever listened to
It's is absolutely and truly stunning

Cade Domangue you probably have no idea who Otis Murphy is if you think this is amazing😂

@@imautistic3791 a lot.
almost all of the saxophone at these competitions have such pure tone.
Ben Taylor probably wouldn’t have gotten there in the first place if they didn’t

it is the fascist, null homotopic aesthetics of 'classical music.'
it is how white people want their world, clean and sanitized. It is fascist aesthetics.
一体何がどうなったらこんな音色になるんだ…美しい。
his tone is so incredible, he makes a piece like this seem easy
I agree. It's definitely a brighter tone than most classical players, but it's more crisp and clean in my opinion.
Second movement 5:32
Third movement 10:23
Thanks bro. Also the oboe solo here is so nice.
Whoever made this piece is a genius, this is the song that made me truly fall in love with classical music.
André Waignein, Belgian composer 1942-2015.
At first I didn't like it, but now I can't stop listening to it. There are other versions on RUclips as well, but Simon Diricq did an incredible job.
Molto fine, e perfezionato
just wait till you hear it on bari sax. even more magical
I like the way Simon looks at the conductor at 0:10
he’s getting mogged
I can't stop LAUGHING
The combination of talent and hard-working

Amazing performance by Simon Diricq! I am I just seeing things or is he using a German clarinet style tied string ligature??
Vandoren Klassik
Did I see him using circular breathing?
i believe so, there’s a 15 measure run of notes, that i figure would need circular breath; i could be wrong though
Très grand Bravo Simon formidable super génial dans cette pièce très belle composition de André Waignien .encore félicitation .
Muito lindo parabéns, meu filho Paulo Félix toca muito essa melodia. Vcs são fera
SUPER!!! MAGIC!!!!!
Невероятно прекрасно! И Симон Дирик, и оркестр, и, конечно же, сама Рапсодия. Браво!!
An incredible performance.
"A magnificent piece and a superb interpretation." 👏👏👏
Is he famous yet?
amazes me how any person can stay sane trying to play the 3rd movement of this piece. its ludicrous
