I thought the guy in yellow was Brian McKnight....I keep forgetting his brother Claude is in this group. They look so much alike.....and I had no idea until now that it was Claude that hit that amazing high note!!!
@@RoninAli1 Went to be a producer in 1991. Take 6 was always on the road and it never gave him the flexibility do do what he really wanted, so out of respect, he had to step down. That ended up leaving the door open for either Brian McKnight (Claude's brother) to join ( they considered others as well to be that 6th member) or Joel Kibble (Mark's younger brother) who had a sextet at Oakwood and was blowing notes as well. Joel ended up getting in the group after his father ask on of his teachers why should he join after being asked the 2nd time. His teacher said, it would teach Joel things he wouldn't learn in school, and Joel stated that the group saw something he can attribute to the team and that's what they needed. Joel has tried to be like Merv and he says that was nothing but continual stress lol.
When Mervyn Left Take 6,I believe that he was the most "competition"for Mark Kibble Vocally. Joey had improved and matured greatly but as much as a T6 fan that I am that I can say that Take 6 adopted a"Mark Kibble" Sound with MK doing much Vocal acrobatics during concerts and stuff. I think that MW was that perfect Balance, resonance and Timbre that that T6 "Magic" was made up of. While T6 with Joey is still Awesome and best out there,The "SOUND" of TAKE 6 changed(For all those whoknowT6 well)
these brothas tore that song up!!!! best version and best job by lead vocalist !!! such confidence, composer true Master craftsmen love it!! I bet the audience just sat there mesmerized !! you know they ain't no body do dat before lol
This right here takes me back to them days when they were on the radio, they were big at the time. Loved this song, and I loved the way they sang it. Their harmonies were out of sight, and the arrangement was incredible! Like I said, loved this song:)
I have always loved Take 6, and this is by far one of their greatest works!!! How many groups can sound this good live? Very, very few. Surprising that Jay Leno actually used to have some hip music guests.
I've missed this fantastic a cappella piece for a while, now. So many memories, and it's one of the various reasons I adored the 1990s. Thank you for this post.

been looking for this song forever.. I remember hearing this as a kid in a B.E.T. promo and it stuck with me ever since that day. Thank you for posting this.
They just performed at the Chicago Gospel Festival 2012 on Sunday 24th. I was very disappointed though that they were only scheduled to perform for 25 minutes. And I missed 10 minutes of that. But I'll cherish those few minutes I heard them perform. Extremely talented men!
@ Jibcraip: So how do you feel about Ceddy stepping down? Personally, I'm sad to see him go, but I think Dentley is the perfect replacement. I'm just glass CD will still be doing stuff in the background, so we'll still be able to hear his touch on things.
I will admit that when he left the group the sound definitely changed and slightly missed something, althought they still remained superb. He was really good and I miss his energy in the group. Where is he? Why he leave the group?
OK. I have listened to this song at LEAST 10 times or more and I KNOW folks are going to shoot me for putting this out there but I have to ask. Can we say that Mervyn was a more colorful vocalist than any of the members? Maybe a better vocalist period??
@Ree4Quee ...because the record label owns the copyright of the sound recording, not the composition. So as long as its a different performance than the one thats on the record its ok, although the publishing company that owns the composition could probably make a stink as well, but usually they dont bother. Wht's so sad is that they are THE most talented vocal group EVER,but don't get the exposure, which would be great and give th new school reason to respect the rawness thy put out there, which is how it used to be done and still can be, but most solo artists can't harmonize like that...they can sing their asses off, but lack the vocal science of it all.
I really really beg to differ.. Joey Kibble evened them out.. When Merv was there, they were a bit heavy on the high end.. Plus, Joey's voice is stronger than Merv's, which brings out a purer sound..
EXACTLY what I thought. Take 6 have been BETTER than ever with their new additions over the years. A bit too much fire power on the high end and grit especially in live performances back in the day on occasion. Joey evened it out nicely. Khristian also brings his own unique flair. What makes Take 6 a great group is the GROUP effort and the arrangement! Its not because of just one person's singing abilities.
they were great, but COMMISSIONED WAS BETTER. Take 6 was good though. I couldn't really understand how they would beat them in some gospel categories on award shows.
Well, with T6, you have a group that mixed Gospel, R&B, Jazz, Big band swing, Classical, and Hip Hop which make them very unique. Commissioned, while very talented, were always in the Winans shadow. Hard to beat Marvin (winans) and his great singing and writing.
The fact you said his voice is stronger than Merv's shows you have ZERO clue about music or vocal tone. It's one thing to just be a fan of Mr. Kibble but please spare me with the foolishness. He isn't even CLOSE to the vocal range of Mervyn Warren. Not even CLOSE. Not sure what your ears hear, but they aren't hearing enough. Go back and listen to Take 6 very first album, then come back and listen to Joey's attempts at replacing Merv on those songs. It's a body bag in favor of Merv. Peace!
Dude you are so wrong it's hilarious. The only range Mervyn can beat Mark in is Falsetto. That's all I'm going to give you. Mark destroys him everywhere else. Gut range is not even a comparison. Mark and holler and he can sing straight. His riffs are more crisp and clean. He's far more soulful. And I love Mervyn. And I'm friends with some of the guys in Take 6. Mark kibble is The Man He's been the man for years. I've seen them in concert many many times. As a matter of fact my group performed on the same stage they did the night before they came. When Mervyn was in the group, nobody's live vocals compared to Mark. Nobody's. And I'm qualified to say this.
Mark has a stronger and more dynamic voice . Merv had a smother voice and wider range. So does Dave , don’t sleep on him . He has very smooth and had crazy range . He and Merv usually did the highest part of gateway Jordan .
Take 6 is still awesome! Praise God! Who’s still listening in 2023?
MERVYN FRICKEN WARREN...You aint had to DO THIS SONG LIKE THAT!!! If not one of the best leads the had from the beginning!
Mervyn was a vocal monster I liked him better with the group
Go 'head, Merv. You were sangin' like you ain't had a care in the world. I just love an effortless singer. All of y'all can sang.
I thought the guy in yellow was Brian McKnight....I keep forgetting his brother Claude is in this group. They look so much alike.....and I had no idea until now that it was Claude that hit that amazing high note!!!
I'm only 26 now but I've loved this group since 1990! Freakin amazing and they to me have become the staple for acapella at its true finest!
I love the CD version and this live version is great as well. Sing it Merv!
That dude was unreal. Singing and arranging the harmonies, and writing the lyrics. Genius!
I wonder why he left?
