  • Getting ready for the Arcade Superplay Expo, so this ended up being the result of practice.
    For those unfamiliar with what the Arcade Superplay Expo is, read up on it here: www.tiltify.com/events/superplay
    I'll be there doing Arcade PO/SPO, and Splatterhouse speedruns! Definitely check it out when it happens!
    So for this run, I got pretty decent luck on most of the fights that matter. I made a couple of mistakes on Pizza and Sandman, but considering the luck you need, it's not too bad. I also apologize for the recording looking kind of janky; I'll try to look into recording it in better quality at some point.
    Timing this game is kind of strange. The time listed in the title is the sum of game times rounded down (ex. Glass Joe had 2:44 left on the clock, so he was beaten in 0:15.xx seconds). The way funkdoc timed his runs (original speedrunner of the game), he rounded those times up, so this would be a 2:29 with his timing method. However, because of the game timer counting down & being somewhat vague, it can make using the timer a bit confusing. If you're interested in what this run was in real-time, it clocks in at about 3 minutes and 45 seconds from the frame my gloves go up, to when the ref finishes the 10 count on Sandman.
    This was played on MAME, since I don't have a working arcade board and capture setup. The dip switches were all switched off except for the one that has demo music, meaning this was on "Easy" difficulty with the "Longest" timer.

      When he does that “stick to you” thing where he gets all up in your face, hold right on the joystick. You’ll immediately dodge to the right when he lets go. After this, keep throwing left jabs. He’ll be stun locked

      I know u commented 5 years ago but I'll leave this here for anyone interested Doesn't just have to be left u can throw a right and also ko punchs you can also beat him without the stun if during the fight u throw rights when he throws hooks after you dodge he's off to the right so only rights land. If u get good enough I usually do body blows for his first 2 punches when the hook comes dodge right and throw a right. Unfortunately his grab prevents u from doing what u can with the others and knocking him out first knockdown. Best u can get is 2nd knockdown but fun game to play

      He's actually pretty easy, but you have to know some strategies first. At the start of the fight, you have to crossup him at least once (a crossup is when you jab around the same and on the same side he does, if you do it right, he'll be stunned for 3 more right punches). After his two jabs, dodge and counter punch the hook, make sure you punch him on the right side or it'll miss.
      From there, he has a pattern to abuse. By punching his high guard in the left or right (it changes sometimes) he'll either block it and counter with a body blow, or duck under it and throw an uppercut. The abuse part is these attacks are actually too slow, so you can dodge both and counter for two hits (Make sure to counter with your left hand, and then stun punch him with your right. Your right hand is too slow to counter these moves). From there, use this to try and knock him down before 2:30.
      Once 2:30 happens, he will stop approaching whatsoever, because the next thing he'll do is block your next attack and clinch you. This is a good thing, however, because it's easy to dodge the insuing uppercut by buffering a right dodge (just hold the joystick right). Once you counter with a left high punch, keep rolling the punches, because he'll be stun locked until KO. That's why you want to get 1 knockdown before 2:30, to drain his entire lifebar after he gets back up.
      If you do this right, he won't get up, he's been knocked cold too quickly and can't get up. I've never seen this happen, but even if he does get up, you're still deep in the advantage, because just one more knockdown will get you the TKO and the win. This strategy works almost the exact same in Title Defense, except the triggers for his counterattacks are a little different and it's more difficult if you fail to KO him in the first minute.

    The question i have isn't about this game but Super Punch out for the SNES. When you fought super macho man; how did you get in 2 hits in the very beginning of the fight? I can only get one in and because of it can't stun him. He is the only one i cant get under 15 seconds on. Thanks

    OK, what settings do you have this on? Some things seem screwy. Like being able to hit Pizza Pasta more than twice without him holding you.

    • @zallard1
      @zallard1  7 лет назад +5

      I'm using default difficulty settings, which I guess is all switches off (except the demo music because it doesn't matter for the gameplay in this run). If the settings still seem unfamiliar to you, I'm also not using TG's difficulty settings for this because they don't interest me for speedrun purposes (typically I go for either easiest or hardest difficulties; TG's is 1 notch above easiest).
      For Pizza, he's programmed to go into his defensive pattern at 2:30 on the clock when he's unstunned. I knock him down during a stun from a counter punch and during that stun, the clock rolls from 2:31 to 2:30. This skips his defensive pattern outright when Pizza gets up, which makes him go back into his regular aggressive pattern that I can counter with well timed KO punches.

    • @DK3CHAMP
      @DK3CHAMP 7 лет назад

      No what I am saying is I can't get more than two hits off of him when he isn't in defensive mode. I have also tried what you were doing with Piston Hurricane in another video, and that simply doesn't work. I have gotten to 450k now at least 10 times now. I am also using default settings. I watched your videos because of 4th and up Piston Hurricane. I tried your moves on that fighter, and they simply don't work. The only way I can consistently beat 4th and up Piston Hurricane is if I get lucky, and give him a knock out body blow punch. If that punch doesn't connect it's a miracle if I beat him. I tried to quickly go to his head like you did, and it simply doesn't work. Also you are able to almost knock him out before 2:30. I have used your moves, and they don't work.

    • @zallard1
      @zallard1  7 лет назад +1

      All of your punches need to be well timed in order to land as many hits as I do on Pizza. I'm doing a "Right Cross" which the game demo shows off before you insert a coin (also known as a counterpunch in other punchout games). Your right jab needs to connect while the opponent's left jab is coming out in order to get the opponent stunned for additional hits.
      Another thing that's useful to know; there's a mechanic that determines KO punches and whether or not they hit the opponent. Whenever you fill up your KO meter, you get one "freebie" KO punch, then the opponent starts dodging subsequent KO punches. However, if you hit the opponent with a KO punch while they are in the middle of an attack, it doesn't use up your "freebie" KO punch, which is how I was able to save the uppercut for the start of phase 3 on Pizza. Additionally, if the opponents gloves are down, KO punches do double damage compared to if their gloves were up (hence why an uppercut was used)
      Not sure what specifically you're having trouble with outside of those. For the Hurricane rush, if you hold left jab as one of his punches gets blocked by your gloves, your jab will connect faster than his body blow that he's trying to throw, but only if you're holding the button down. There's a pretty particular rhythm to it that takes practice. Can you point out any other specifics on the Hurricane fight you're having trouble with?
      Either way, I can assure you that the moves I'm doing do indeed work once you practice counterpunch timings on opponents.

    I feel like I've asked you this before, but why not a run of loop 2?

    • @zallard1
      @zallard1  7 лет назад +2

      This game loops forever; there is no finite "ending" to it other than when you become the champion for a speedrun to stop on. I did some IL fights of loop 2 out of curiosity that I uploaded a while ago though.
      I'm probably going to try score runs at some point to see how far I can get, although those will be far less polished as a result of the later fights being pretty difficult and random.

    • @ogredanhibiki
      @ogredanhibiki 7 лет назад

      ***** I see, they do get pretty difficult. But it is kind of interesting to see how the line up changes for each loop. IIRC it changes 3 or 4 times before it loops one line up forever (which I think is Glass Joe, Piston Hurricane, Bald Bull, Sandman). I remember a few years ago just out of curiosity I did 100 fights to see both who that fight was (IIRC Piston Hurricane) and to see if it would loop back to 1.

    • @zallard1
      @zallard1  7 лет назад

      Oh nice, I still haven't gotten around to getting to fight 100. From the little bit I've done beyond the first few loops, it seems like *maybe* the difficulty stops increasing on loop 4. The last thing I see a fighter change in their pattern is when Piston Hurricane 4 starts doing 4 jabs/bodyblows consecutively similar to Pizza Pasta. After that fight, every subsequent fight "seems" the same as the previous loop.
      I guess a speedrun to complete loop 4 would be neat to try one day too, but I guess I'd like "hard" confirmation that the fighters on loops 5 and beyond are completely identical to loop 4 in the way they behave, the odds of certain attacks, ect.
