This device looks fascinating due to the surround support from HDMI inputs. Yamaha had a booth at PAX Australia this weekend (with this device!) so I stopped by and asked them a few questions myself. This may actually end up being the solution I've been trying to find for my audio for the past 8 years. Thanks for the video, otherwise I would have learned about this device too late!

🎉 Solid review Harris. I love the idea of surround sound, personally. 60 though is a bummer, but if it’s for rpg gaming, I think it’s worth the trade off for people to experience a game in a more immersive way on stream.

Looks like a good product, ticks a lot of boxes but that 60fps is a deal breaker. Shame they didn’t go for the newer hdmi 2.1 (which could handle the 4k 120fps pass through)

I own this device, and I'm curious - is there any way I could use it for Xbox parties using the aux port? I've tried with a standard TRRS cable, but didn't quite work out.
I'm wondering if there's a way to make it work, maybe with attenuators and other equipment? Don't really want to buy the bits and pieces if it's a list cause though.
Do I need to run my video through it though? Could really care less about surround sound. Just want a good mixer to plug headphone and mic into to stream

Just to clarify, the yamaha ZG01 can do 120fps even though the manufacturer doesn't mention it. I tested it myself and you can also find videos from Japanese RUclipsrs that confirm it.
How were you able to do it?
The question is, how does it works? Is powerful enough to feed the hungry boy SM7B? That’ll be interesting to test, for gamers that usually end up buying that! Including me hahaha
Yamaha is not particularly known for their good preamps. (Their LS9 and M7CL consoles actually had the worst ever made other than the original Focusrite octopre), but they, along with their subsidiary Steinberg has put out a lot of great soundcards over the last few years, so my guess would be: Most certainly, just as almost every other non-junk preamp will be plenty good for that particularly overated mediocre microphone;-)
@@hepphepps8356 Yamaha preamps have come on leaps and bounds. Have a listen to the CL/QL/Rio preamps, fairer comparison than something 10 years old like than LS9.

I love all the features, but the only thing i would love to have is a second input for the instruments. Such an oversight on both GoXlr and Yamaha.
I'm confused on what you mean by being "limited" to 60FPS. You're still going to get 120FPS or VRR (or both) on the monitor on which you're playing, it's just that the mixer can only output a 60fps signal max to most streaming sites (YT/Twitch/etc.) anyways. You can't broadcast a VRR or even a fixed 120FPS signal online yet. With AV1, that might change, but live signals never output higher than 60fps (50fps in Europe).
How does this work to use your mic on the console? How does the mic audio return to the console? It can't go through the HDMI backwards so I'm guessing this doesn't work well with a console in that regard...
Can you hook this up via USB to an Xbox Series X?

The connectivity of this audio interface does look amazing, but I do agree that kneecapping the video out at 60Hz and disabling VRR is kind of a deal-breaker for me even though I don't play high framerate competitive games and would LOVE the surround sound passthrough for multiple sources. I primarily play Arma 3, which is an older game but its engine is still heavily CPU dependent due to the absolutely massive environments, active units and simulation computation in game. A solid 60fps would be a dream scenario in an Arma 3 multiplayer session. It's for this reason that having an adaptive sync technology/variable refresh rate is often super beneficial to having a far smoother gaming experience at a lower framerate. So, even though capturing the amazingly cinematic 3D audio in game would be fantastic, I feel like the disabling of VRR could hinder display performance to possibly an unbearable degree. I mean, when 1 CPU core is handling the bulk of rendering in a literal 400 square kilometer terrain with hundreds of AI and 30+ players having a relatively smooth experience when things dip even below 30fps matters a lot.

the yamaha AVR receivers had 2.1/4k120 problems for years, guessing they never really sorted it out based on the choice to cap these at 60
