  • California's central valley is a great place to go bicycle touring. I'm on a three day tour in mid-March. This second day is 80 miles from Porterville to Selma.
I'm riding through orange groves, almond groves, vineyards, olive groves and the occasional cow farm. The roads vary from surprisingly good to horrendous. The biggest hazards are rent-a-bees and packs of farm dogs.

This route is also known as the "Citrus Belt". In between the valley floor and foothills is a few degrees warmer so the fruit won't freeze in the colder months of the year.
