I was so terrified before I saw this - I looked at no spoilers, watched no trailers, tried not to hope too much... I almost cried from sheer joy watching it the first time. Thank you Tim for not botching it up.
Took my 17 yr old granddaughter. I’m 74. We watched the ORIGINAL the week before. Had a great time. Actually talked about the 2 movies. Had a wonderful time. Thank you!!
People think working in the film industry is fun but most of the time you're working on some commercial, tv movie, crappy tv show or sometimes an okay movie. It's rare for really awesome movies or series to come along that everyone working on it is really excited about it and it's decent quality. When you do get on one of those sets it's about as fun as life can get. Some of the best times in my life have been on film sets but they're very much the minority of your time working in the film industry. It's really about who you know, how well you're liked and good ol' luck when it comes to what stuff you'll get to work on.
I definitely didn't realize how much I enjoyed the first one when I watched it 20 yrs ago...untill the movie started and i heard that music..... Then i was 10 all over again
Loved it! Wish Beetlejuice was in more in the first half but i think they made it up during the second half and loved the part where they explained Beetlejuices back story 😊
I enjoyed the film. Would have loved another 1/2 hour. Belluci's character should have had more time and >power< over Beetlejuice before the climax. Just my two cents.
Ok idk if you all caught it but Michael Keaton said the great thing about this Beetle juice x3, hmmm maybe a hint about a Beetle juice 3 in the works 🤔
I know Winona was very consistent with Lydia, but I wish they didn't still dress her like a Catholic school girl. They could have changed her wardrobe.
The movie started out sooooo bad to me, I almost turned it off when Astrid met that boy I was like "Oh Jesus Christ it's a teenage love story?" Glad I didn't turn it off because the "Wtf" moments from the first act all panned out. Movie holds up fairly well to the original I think.
Yeah, people said that they knew right from the start the boy was a ghost, but i didn't, i just thought he had a disfunctional family and that's why his parents didnt turn around when he came in, when his house was not decorated for halloween, i thought it was for the very same reason
Script was a mess, chaos all over the place. If you haven't seen the original, why would you care much for Lydia, who's co-dependent, popping pills and disowned by her daughter? Delores seemed to be in there just to give Tim Burton's muse some work. Maybe some laughs but not from the three of us in an otherwise empty theater.
The plot was very straightforward if you really paid attention. Perhaps we aren’t in 1988 anymore, and this is Beetlejuice in modern times. It was such a great movie
hi it is Andy we meet year 1982 thanks for keeping the name beetle juice I got the name 🐝 bees and orange juice 🧃 thanks for everything I also wrote karate kid /I wrote part of my third movie sense 1983 thanks for everything/ .I mess all of you people all I was in different strokes the tv show we meet in NYC
I hated this sequel. I really didnt appreciate the absence of the maitlands. That's a huge one for me. The maitlands were the emotional through-line of the original. We were seeing the movie from their perspective because they were basically playing the straight man. So they plucked the main characters from the sequel and we're left with the crazy side characters that no one can relate to. It was too weird. I agree with Winona rider in regard to lydia most likely wouldn't have had kids. I dont like jenna Ortega and shes once again infected another ip I adored. The character of beetlejuice doesnt need to be expanded upon. I dont want to see him working in an office. That's pretty ridiculous. There were way too many characters and too many plot lines converging all at once felt unnatural and forced. Michael Keatons performance was very sedate. Not once did I see him light or smoke a cigarette. He constantly kept the timbre of his voice really low where as the original his tone and inflections were all over the place. In the original film he would flip from calm to manic in the same sentence. What they did with Charles Deetz character was detestable. Either have jeffrey jones reprise his role or dont have that character in the film. It's that simple. Also beetlejuice appears when you say his name three times, so why was delores having such a hard time finding him when she had already said his name more than three times. Wheres beetlejuice?! Wheres beetlejuice?! Wheres beetlejuice?! That was pretty stupid and bad writing imo. There was one shrunken head guy in the first movie but the burnt up smoker guy was more interesting, so we now have a race of shrunken head dudes? That doesnt make any sense. Also how did beetlejuice get his head unshrunk from the first movie? I wanted to see how lydia grew up having two sets of parents. Being raised by ghosts would have been very interesting. It would have also been cool to see how lydia helped adam and Barbara cross over. And mcarthur park playing at the end? I've always hated that song. It's almost like every move this movie made was deliberately designed to annoy fans of the original film. I personally feel like I've been slapped in the face.
Ok but two points that have actually been explained. It was difficult to bring the Maitlands back because they are dead, the dead do not age and Alec and Geena don't look remotely like they did in 1988. The fact they found a loophole and went to heaven was actually nice to hear. I did miss them but it was impossible for them to be in this. Also Jeffrey aka Charles has some kind of sexual assault allegation against him so they cannot bring the actor back
We all know Monica was in it because she is Tim Burton's wife. I actually really liked her character but felt she wasn't expanded upon enough. There was a lot going on as you say. Not that I found it bad, just seemed everything had to be hurriedly excuted due to the multiple mini plots
The actor for Charles Deetz is a registered sex offender and pedophile. He was arrested for child pornography. Be glad the actor himself wasn’t in the film.
2:48 I don't think that the story is stronger than in the first film. Actually the first film had a very clear, straightforward, strong story, Beetlejuice Beetlejuice is just a story mess :D
Nope. Disagree wholeheartedly. Go find @MistrBlistr and you can pal around in your misery and find your own movie to celebrate and leave us to ourselves!
I love the part where Catherine talks about how Michael doesn't have to worry about being old because Beetlejuice has been dead for years.😂
I was so terrified before I saw this - I looked at no spoilers, watched no trailers, tried not to hope too much... I almost cried from sheer joy watching it the first time. Thank you Tim for not botching it up.
Wouldn’t that be something but at 74 I wouldn’t be around and probably many of the important actors wouldn’t. So I don’t know if that would work.
Seeing this again tomorrow, absolutely loved this movie!
have you see the first one?

They are all smiling, and it absolutely transferred to the screen.
Catherine O'Hara was the MVP. She stole the show.
She was hilarious!!! If they make a third one, she needs to be in it
They made her character too whiny and cringe

They did our boy dirty. He did his job and left us. We need a petition to save our boy and bring him back. B can't go out like that.
Justice for Bob
Hahaha. BOB was my fave from the original and I guess he was for others too. RIP BOB
Loved the movie but the first one is a classic 💜
Must have been refreshing for the cast to act on real detailed sets instead of green screens.
