The main problem with this game is the entire magic system was never explained making it impossible to use. I couldn't understand how to change anything or what it did. I didn't even know what I had or how to actually use it. The player was never shown any real use reason for the magic system or how it was more beneficial than just straight up regular combat with regular arrows/sword and shields. A player needs to be shown by the developers with an in-game demonstration. Otherwise they have nothing to go off of. I always ignore any mechanic/system I am not explained in game. Not my job as a player to have to guess, or mess around or look up.
I think there is a healthy balance that devs can reach that isn't patronising to experienced players while still allowing new players a helping hand. I was encouraged to figure out the magic system in this game because my partner used it on me and made me insanely lethal, This encouraged me to figure out how to return the favour. Pokemon Black & White made me incredibly sceptical of the hand holding approach but I do agree that the devs could have done a bit a better job.

Explaining how a system/mechanic works in a game, isn't hand holding, it's called explaining how to use it and it's required to be explained step by step. If they don't then that system/mechanic is broken because it cannot be used. This isn't school where you spend more time outside the game trying to get answe4rs on how to use something in it.
