Yeah that takes me back- waaaayyy back. But for us girls we basically had to dance with ourselves because the guys would only hit the dance floor when a hip hop song came on so they could breakdance. As for chaperones? I honestly can't remember ever seeing any of them around so he def got that right. We used to also have clubs that catered to under 18 kids and that's where the REALLY interesting stories took place. But I wasn't allowed to go.

Middle school dances in the gym:
All the theater kids, all the dance kids, turning the gym into "Fame!"...
We were lucky to have been in school where & when we were, and owe Miss Ann Atwater and C.P. Ellis a huge thank you for demonstrating how to integrate schools (and students) successfully.
We had zero clue our kindergarten to 12th grade class was going to be making history, and make the Koch Brothers so mad they would attempt to buy the 2009 school board elections when our kids just wanted the same opportunities we had ...

I feel bad for the guy from art. Called my parents home phone. I told him no. I considered if I maybe I could handle it. No way. Too many cuter guys, and it would have destroyed my reputation. I should have approached more guys, because in Highschool I had a boyfriend who was a senior, graduated. Having a college boyfriend I missed out on more innocent boys. I remember sock hops before school in the mornings at my jr high. The songs that transport me right back to those moments are come on Eileen, stray cat strut, and should I stay or should I go.

I was born in 80 and went to middle school in the 90s but never went to any dances. I never knew of any because, unfortunately, I was in ESE (special Ed) classes, so I never went to any dances plus I had nobody to go with

School dances could go either way back then. Some were great, others were memorable for all the wrong reasons.
The music I remember most is Righteous Brothers, 'Unchained Melody" or Marvn Gaye, 'Lets Get it On", Styx, 'Babe", Meatloaf, 'Two Out of Three Ain't Bad', Wings "My Love", Dan Fogelberg, 'Longer", Peaches and Herb, 'Reunited', or 'Evin Bishop, 'Fooled Around and Fell in Love',
We only had a few dances in middle school but 'middle school wasn't a thing where I went to school, we went 1 through 8 at one school and then four years of high school at a completely different school .
We had lot of girls with the same names, there was like 8 Michelle's, five Jennifers, several Debbies, and a dozen or more Lorries or Laura's. There weren't many original names then just repeats of the same over and over again. I think the class before mine had like 12 Beths, and five Lindas.
Fights were common at our dances, some got pretty out of control, usually it was against guys from a different school who showed up to make trouble. It got so bad that they stopped having dances for a year and a half after a car got burned in the parking lot and a couple guys got into a high speed chase going after someone who started a fight.
What I remember most is dumping 20 bottles of Mad Dog 20/20 into the punch bowl or several bottles of Everclear. We all would have beer in our cars, or hidden in a cooler under the bleachers or back in the locker room.
I remember one dance where a a few of us woke up 30 miles away the next morning in a barn.
We thought that was the worst of it till Monday when we learned that about half of those who were drinking had passed out or were found in various other rooms in the school with some of the girls.
Waking up with a cow licking your head, with a hangover and three girls you barely know in a barn a half hour from home with no memory of how you got there, or where any of our clothes were is something that sticks with you for years.
I was 15, the one girl was a senior, the other was a chaperone, and the other was the grand daughter of the people that lived there. We only found that our after she started to wake up, or sober up, and tell us that we were there because if we had gone to her house her dad would have shot me for what we did the night before.. Then looking out and realizing you don't recognize or know who's car you drove, and don't remember driving it. Then one of them says they think its the principals car, "How did that get here?".
I'm sure that was the last time the principal left his keys on his desk. (We drove it home, that day but left it in a mall parking lot with the keys under the mat. None of us ever figured out where we left our clothes but the girl who was a chaperone, (who was the much older sister of a girl in my class, said she seemed to remember me throwing hers out the window.
A girl I was seeing at the time, who I took to that dance, took my motorcycle home, which concerned me a bit because the one girl I was with was her older sister.
The only thing I was able to gather from that night was that the older chick, the chaperone from the dance, was the one who cuddled up to me on the ride home, and the one I had to hide till I found some clothes back at my house for her to wear. I got some strange looks from my dad that day after driving up to the house after being gone all night with a strange naked woman, but all he did was smile and shake his head. I took the chaperone home the next morning on my motorcycle.
At the time I was more concerned with having gotten one of them pregnant than the car we had apparently borrowed or the fact that one of them was 7 years my senior and naked as we walked into my house. At the time I really hated school, but looking back 50 years later they were some wild times, and how we all stayed out of any serious trouble is beyond me.

They’d happen right after school, in the cafeteria that had been transformed by adding brown butcher paper to all the windows, and piling all the tables & chairs to one side🤣!

High School Teen Club dances after the football games! It didn't matter how many times you were blocked or tackled, you hustled your a** off to get there in time for several dances. The aches and pains weren't noticeable until the next morning.
