C Mcd It’s nice to have been able to learn from someone. My dad bought me a bike, but never rode one himself. So I was pretty much on my own. I lived though. ;-) It’s nice to be able to pass some of that on though.
he will always remember this moment, I know I do. spent hours trying to figure it out on a honda 230. stall after stall, all I wanted to do was ride. didn't stop till I learned that day. burned in my memory. gotta love it
I just bought a 2017 klx140 and i have twin boys, there 9 yrs old, im so excited to get them started on riding dirt bikes, they have the small motovox pit bikes but theres no shifting on that of course. Getting young boys into riding bikes is a great way to keep them motivated and out of trouble. If more parents spent more time with there kids this world would be a better place. The excitement in your boys eyes is priceless and that will make any father feel good. Be safe and keep riding.
They are gonna love it! Daniel has since sold his. (He’s about six feet tall now.) But it was a great bike for a long time. It’s a very forgiving machine in the shifting department with the low home 1st gear, so they will do fine. Daniel was a little upset that he wasn’t an instant pro, after having had a Honda 70 with no clutch, but a four speed shifter. But he got it figured out pretty quick.
This video really inspired me to ride mine. Now I’m going super fast on it. From the bottom of my heart, thank you. You don’t know how much of an impact this has had on my life.
Just got my first bike today. Klx140L 2019. I’m a little too big for it but it’s just Tons of fun to rip around. And when u grow out of it it’s still big enough to have fun on. Love the bike a lot
Its really powerful for its size, and unlike other motorcycles brands, Kawasaki rounds down instead of up. its not a 140cc, its a 144. Daniel is well over a foot taller since this video, so hes too big for it now, but it still hauls him fine. And if this is your first bike, its a perfect starter. Enough power to get you into trouble, but not enough to kill you right away. ;-) Have fun, stay safe!
Really want one these for a pit bike! I just bought the new 2017 kx250f and oh boy what a bike!! Fuel injection, literally spot on response time when you twist the throttle
I got a 2020 KLX 140L today. Well I should say we bought it becuase it won’t be here until Tuesday, which is about 4 days from now. It will be my first bike and I am very glad that this is the bike I’m going to be using. I’m lucky I even found the bike because of quarantine, no local company’s have any in stock. We could have spent 8k on it, but we found something closer that only cost about 4K, which was a great saver.
Congratulations! You’ll love it. It’s a great bike. Daniel still has his, but he’s getting ready for a larger one due to a growth spurt. But it still hauls him fine.
XxgamingnukexX gaming me also! I’ve never ridden before, I’m about 5,4 and it fits great was able to find the 2020 for sale for 3,099 out the door! Super excited to learn let me know how you like it!
wildone99 I rode it for the first time today. It is amazing, it’s has a lot of power, so you have to be careful off the clutch. It fits me well, and it’s very comfortable. I was so glad I got it, and not some other pit bike.
XxgamingnukexX gaming awesome! Yea me also I was going to get something less exapensive but I’m glad I was patient! Now I just gotta wait till I can get my arm cast off and I’ll be good to go ! Thanks for the feedback!

I just got my wife a KLX 140 to learn on. She loves it for trails. She cant keep up with my 850 Polaris but she doesn't care. I think they're absolutely great beginners bikes. I clocked hers at top speed it was 51 MPH.
It’s got a great power to weight ratio. I really liked that bike. If she’s interested in riding to the trails, her next ride could be a TW200, still not going to keep up with the Polaris, but a very capable machine.
@JimsEquipmentShed I figure she'll want to upgrade next year. She's rode the bike for four days and wrecked each time. She broke her toe two days ago and can't wait to get back on it lol. It's a ton of fun for her. I figure a 200 or 250 is in her future. I'm too old for dirtbikes everyday lol. I like my four wheelers now.
@@semosurvivalist that’s the perfect sized bike to learn on, light enough to pick back up, and fast enough to be fun. Another good off-road, on road bike is a klr250 if you can find one. (Not a 650, unless your wife is at least 5’11”.)
@JimsEquipmentShed She's 5'10" but a 650 is years out lol. She comes in way to hot for that kind of power. I'm guessing a 250 of some make will be her next one. Who knows though...have to see what she picks out and bite my tongue lol.

Daniel Day hell yes you font need a license unless you wanted to ride it on the road but you need to be 17 to get your Ls and the you got to the Ps or that might just be for cars then you get you license so no you dont but if you want to ride on the road yes
I started on a Honda 50, back in the 60’s. It’s the same one my grandson is riding is some of my earlier videos. (Newer frame though, the hard tail monkey bike frames didn’t last long.)
Wish I had a father like him too teach me how to ride, I know the basic's of a bike, shifting, how to stop, such, but like he knows when he needs to change the carb, I live with my grandfather and he doesn't know much about bikes, he's just gonna buy me one and let me do my thing with it.
Unfortunately, thats how I learned myself. My father didn't know anything about motorcycles, but over time, I figured it out. And at least you have the internet now, when I had to figure something out, youtube wasn't an option. I either got lucky, and found a friend that knew more, or I broke it, and was more careful the next time around.
@@JimsEquipmentShed Yeah, Well lucky for me, I have a really good friend of mine that has a lot of riding experience, He currently has a KX250F, so, and it's not my completely first time riding, I rid my friends CRF 125 and did everything perfect the first time, he explained the basic shifting (1 down 4 up, neutral is between 1 and 2) and I got it down pat, but, How'd you learn mechanics so well? just curious, I love your KLX 140 videos man!
J0kerOfficialRBLX While my father wasn’t much of a mechanic, and he didn’t really care for motorcycles, he got me one when I asked. So at about eight or nine, I had my first bike, a Honda 50z. That bike was a beast, and being a semiautomatic (you had to shift, but no clutch) it was a perfect trainer. It taught you to match your RPM’s or stall.
@@JimsEquipmentShed Can you give me some advice for shifting, And some advice for mechanics? I'd be a pleasure to get alittle bit, I'm getting my first bike in 3 weeks, I'll I've been doing is waiting and waiting, I'm so exciting, I'm getting it for my birthday, I'll be 16, 5'4-5'5 Getting a KLX 140G 2017, What is your best advice for learning to shift and not worrying, I know most things like pressing the clutch is mandatory for just about every action you do on a bike, But what is some extra tips you would give me?
@@j0ker893 Well congratulations, that was about Daniels height when he first got his, he still loves it. The best advice I can give without actually being there, is find the clutches friction point. Just put it in first gear, and don't even add throttle at first, just find that point where it starts to grab. Once you know where that is, it will help you a lot for taking off without stalling. As soon as you hit the friction point, its a matter of trading places with the throttle and the clutch, as the clutch is going out, roll the throttle on. The key is not to get too greedy in first gear. Once its rolling, the bike will be a lot more forgiving. Above all else, don't get too frustrated, it all takes time. And happy birthday!
He was about 5’2 and kept it for about two years. His dad is about 5’ 11” and he had a ton of fun in it, no shortage of power. It’s probably a right sided nine until you are about 5’ 7”.
Yea, I thoight he did pretty well. He was mad that he didn't do better first time out though, as he can drive our truck. Getting used to a hand clutch is a different learning curve though.
Daniel was about 5' 3" at the time, but at 4' 9" you'll do fine with it. its a pretty low bike, but a lot of power. They round down, instead of up like most manufacturers, so its actually more CC's than 140.... The honda 50 for example is only 49cc.
His helmet wasn’t there, just his sons. While I don’t actively recommend it, in the 80’s I rode with out a helmet a lot, so. (And still do on occasion.) It’s only a golden rule now.....
Don't mess around by cleaning just part of it. Junk moves around..... Pull the entire thing apart, and soak the parts in CLR. (I think you can get CLR from walmart) Once everything has soaked for a few hours, use a sewing needle to make sure any holes that should be open, actually are. (Be careful not to scratch any brass surfaces with the needle.) And blow everything out with compressed air. Before re-installing it, put a new fuel filter on the line.
You may not have CLR then, its basically a calcium, rust, lime remover. Try the workshophero website (They are in sidney) They sell metal rescue, and it should be pretty much the same thing. Just make sure there are no warnings on use with aluminum. (The brass seats are generally not affected by much chemically) white vinegar will work as well.
Used, a family friends kids grew out of them, and the smaller bikes were just parked. So they cut Daniel a heck of a deal. (He saved you and bought it with his own money.)
@@usernotfound7681 You'll just have to keep scanning the local ads, they come up on occasion, but yea, not cheap. Daniel got this one priced right because it was, uh well loved......;-). The clutch was fried, and the back tire was showing the air inside. The carb was crapped right up because it had not been run in years. So you can find one cheaper, but you will need to work on it. But as long as the engine itself is good, (And this one was) its a deal no matter what.
JustinSTeam2 big Dan is 5’ 11 and about 198lbs. It hauled him really well. While he’s too tall for it, it has Plenty of power. So I’d say yes, it will do very well for you. The power is actually under rated as they rounded down on the engine CC’s. Where most manufacturers tend to round up instead.
I have a klx 140 I’m really great full for the bike it’s pretty easy to maneuver but it’s kinda slow and I’m outgrowing it already I’m thinking about getting a 09 yz85 or a 15 kx 150
Daniel still loves his, but it won't be long before it will be too small for him as well. Hes currently working on a Yamaha Blaster 200, so thats where his winter focus is.
Try the Klx 230r or the Honda one the seats 3ft tall I’m going from a klx 140 L because I’m looking for more power and it’s kinda low I’m 5’4 I’m 15 I started off on a Yamaha ttr 110 to learn then the clutch but the 230 is just right for me
JimsEquipmentShed im 13 and have never had my own dirtbike and have ridden about 2 minutes on my friends pw80 and also about 5,2 would that be a good bike for me?
How tall is your son? I’m buying a 2019 KX140 for my wife. She’s 5’2” but I’m not sure of her inseam. Says the seat height is 30” so I think she’s tall enough.
Jerry Massey Daniel was 5’ 3” when he got it, so she’ll be fine. And it’s got plenty of power, so she won’t feel like she’s on a kids bike. As you can see, it hauled big Dan around fine, and he’s over 200lbs.
One message I have... if your gonna buy the Klx 140 cause it fits you, dont. I got mine about a year ago and after the first month it was boring so I got it rejetted and bought an fmf power core four silencer and power bomb header it definitely piped it up but I'm still bored of the power. Now I'm still do grateful my parents bought me the bike but if you have a choice go with the kx 85 my buddy has one and I ride his alot and it's way faster
The same place we got this unit also had a ktm 200 XC-W available, if you need out of the hole power, thats the bike to go with. We specifically stayed away from two strokes. Hes not racing, and as an occasional weekend rider had no need for mixing fuel, or rebuilding engines.
Wow I used to have that bike same year same graphics same everything rode perfect for 8 years and last year my dad sold it to a friend and I regret it it’s destroyed my friend brother is a fat retired super cross rider and was way to heavy for it and it has a clapped out chain sprocket suspension is destroyed battery doesn’t work it’s sad every time I go there they leave it in the rain I hate it I want to buy it back so bad
Daniel is actually getting ready to sell his, he's almost 6' tall now, so its time for something bigger. He got this bike origionally from a friend of ours pretty much the same way as you are describing the current condition of your past bike. The kid out grew it, and it sat for a few years and basically played dead. Thats the good thing about these bikes, someone will end up with it, and it will be back in action gain one day, they are super tough bikes.
JimsEquipmentShed same mine sat for a long time just washing the dust off of it every month and when we were selling it I rode it for the last time it was crisp now it’s definitely not lol
:( My dad is just a raging drunk who tries to say he knows everything about dirt bikes and tries to teach me, when in reality he's just a little ***** and knows nothing, nor has he ever ridden a dirt bike. And my poor brother, my dad thinks that he can't handle a KLX125, and my brother is 15! Oh, How jealous i am of you guys, a dad who shares passions, isn't a raging drunk, and actually loves you and isn't annoying.
My Dad never rode a bike in his life, but he did get me one when I was about Daniels age. So you can learn to do it safely on your own, I wish I came from a riding family, but sometimes, thats just not in the cards. The drunk thing is a whole different ball of wax, sorry you and your brother have to deal with that. If you have a bike, thats a good excuse for talking really long rides.....
I think he's headed in that direction. That was a great bike when he was running it though. Its pretty powerful for its size, and great as a step up from the Honda 70.
Farming Lad03 he's about 5' 4" right now, but his dad is 5' 11" and it pulled him around just fine. The clutch is baked, and we need a battery, so this wasn't the best light to show this bike in. It's been parked for about three years since the last owner out grew it. (He's over 6' tall now.....)
It brings me so much joy to see him as happy as he is! Great teaching, Dad!

And happy birthday!
i just saw this exact bike at our dealership, I'm hoping I could buy my little brother this bike as well.
It’s a great bike.
This was such and interesting video
Man, this kid made my day. Makes me want to be a dad
Hes already outgrown that bike, he's almost 6' tall now. Time flys. That was a great bike though.
How tall were you I’m just wondering how long this bike would last me
He was about 5’2 and kept it for about two years. His dad is about 5’ 11” and he had a ton of fun in it, no shortage of power.
It’s probably a right sided nine until you are about 5’ 7”.
@@JimsEquipmentShed cheers
I got one on Christmas and looked them up to see how cool that are
Logan Workman congratulations! You are going to love it, that’s a great bike.
he caught on quickly!
Yea, I thoight he did pretty well. He was mad that he didn't do better first time out though, as he can drive our truck. Getting used to a hand clutch is a different learning curve though.
Does this bike have a ton of power and does it rip good
NaRly BrOs Plenty of power, and does very well on the trails. Not as zippy as a two stroke, but quieter, and will last longer.
I have one and it has a lot of power
Hey! I’m 5,4 and a beginner. Do you think I can ride this bike???
Absolutely, Daniel was about 5’ 3” when he got this one.
Me and my brother will be perfect fits on these bikes
Jim Halpert they are great bikes.
About how tall was he in this video, I'm 12 and I'm only 4'9 and I'm trying to find a good bike and so far I'm interested in this one
Daniel was about 5' 3" at the time, but at 4' 9" you'll do fine with it. its a pretty low bike, but a lot of power.
They round down, instead of up like most manufacturers, so its actually more CC's than 140....
The honda 50 for example is only 49cc.
How much inch were the tires front and rear?
Sorry, that was 7 years ago, I really can’t remember.
Yeah dads been riding bikes for a while still hasn't got the golden rule down pat where is your helmet ??
His helmet wasn’t there, just his sons.
While I don’t actively recommend it, in the 80’s I rode with out a helmet a lot, so.
(And still do on occasion.)
It’s only a golden rule now.....
My Honda cb125e just broke down from a clogged carburettor. Any tips for fixing it?
Don't mess around by cleaning just part of it.
Junk moves around.....
Pull the entire thing apart, and soak the parts in CLR.
(I think you can get CLR from walmart)
Once everything has soaked for a few hours, use a sewing needle to make sure any holes that should be open, actually are.
(Be careful not to scratch any brass surfaces with the needle.)
And blow everything out with compressed air.
Before re-installing it, put a new fuel filter on the line.
JimsEquipmentShed thank you for the advice. I'll be upgrading to a Klx 140 soon anyway. ( that's why I'm here )
I'm Australian so I don't have Walmart
You may not have CLR then, its basically a calcium, rust, lime remover. Try the workshophero website (They are in sidney) They sell metal rescue, and it should be pretty much the same thing.
Just make sure there are no warnings on use with aluminum.
(The brass seats are generally not affected by much chemically)
white vinegar will work as well.
JimsEquipmentShed cheers, I'll be onto it
i love dog bark bark
Toby is nuts, he can't help barking, and chasing. Its ingrained into his doggie DNA... ;-)
did you guys get yours used or new because i can’t find a used one anywhere
Used, a family friends kids grew out of them, and the smaller bikes were just parked.
So they cut Daniel a heck of a deal.
(He saved you and bought it with his own money.)
@@JimsEquipmentShed do you have any idea where i could get one used, the brand new ones have a ridiculous price around $3000
Awesome video
Thanks, its a great bike, he loves it.
JimsEquipmentShed do you think this would be big enough for a 18 year old? I’m looking for a good trail bike I’m 5”8 and around 145 pounds
I might get one how tall was he back then
I think he was about 5' 3" at that time. His dad is almost 6', and it hauled him around fine.
Plenty of power, thats for sure.
Get a yz 125. Best bike I've ever ridden.
are you sure he was 5'3? not trying to be rude at all but my brother had the bike when he was 5'3 and was able to touch the ground on flat foot?
You mean like Dan is at 3:53, or flatter with knees bent?
It could depend on the wheel size most of the time
Ok so I’m 5,8 and I wanted to know is this a good size can I still touch the ground when I’m sitting and how many gears do it have
Team lored at 5’ 8” you’ll be able to plant both feet flat, no problem.
It’s a five spreed.
Try the Klx 230r or the Honda one the seats 3ft tall I’m going from a klx 140 L because I’m looking for more power and it’s kinda low I’m 5’4 I’m 15 I started off on a Yamaha ttr 110 to learn then the clutch but the 230 is just right for me
How tall was he?
About 5' 3" and growing by the hour. Right bike for the right time, I'm hoping he gets a few years out of it.
JimsEquipmentShed im 13 and have never had my own dirtbike and have ridden about 2 minutes on my friends pw80 and also about 5,2 would that be a good bike for me?
Was this the regular 140, the L, or the G??
Justin Hood L
How much was the bike
$100.00 They cut him a MAJOR deal. Owned by a family friend, and it had been parked for a couple of years.
Insane Gamer 100 bucks that's the deal of the century!
JimsEquipmentShed what would be a reasonable price for one
I guess that depends on your area, probably around $800.00 to $1100.00.
I have the same bike
It was a great one!
Oh yeah for sure the klx shreds
how tall is the guy on the 140
Daniel was 5’ 3” during this video.
Nice video but do recommend using a automatic than a manual also how old was he in this video
GTA PLAYER He is 13 now, and this was in 2016. This was his first bike with a standard. He got a lot better with it after a few days.
@@JimsEquipmentShed yeah i could see that just from the video👌
@@OwenJewell Then what was the question?
@@JimsEquipmentShed that for his first ride on a bike he should have an automatic
GTA PLAYER His first motorcycle was an automatic.
A Honda 50z, then he had a Honda 70. (Also an automatic)
JimsEquipmentShed ya I see what you mean it is a great starter bike
Hey but isn’t the 85 like 82cc and the 140 is like 144 cc please explain why the 85 is faster I am new to this
@@Eric-sb9ek I'm new to this as well :p
You can shift without the clutch when your driving
Yea, one step at a time. ;-)
Isn't that extremely bad for the bike?
Soup Time yeh if you wanna blow up your bike
What year is that one
its a 2008.
no he owns his shop and works on cars but i own a 90cc and 200cc forwheeler
I'm about 4'10. would this bike fit me?
Evan Schweppe yes ii think I t would fit fine, right up to about 5' 11". I'd say, over that, and it's getting small.
JimsEquipmentShed thanks, like the channel
Thanks, Hopefully it will stop raining here one day, and he can ride again......
Probobly not I had one and moved up bc I out grew it. I'm 5'5
Is this bike too big if you're 4'11?
Super Kyle I think you could do ok at 4’ 11” you won’t be able to flat foot both feet, but you seldom do while riding anyhow.
I GOT A NEW HELMENT AND THE BIKE ITS AWSOME I HAVE NOT ROAD IT THOUGH
Logan Workman soon enough, Daniel only got to ride his once before winter set in last year. Summer comes quick though, hang in, you’ll make it. ;-)
I'm getting one soon
Good for you! Its a great bike, you will love it.
“am I in gear?”
Clutch not in hand*
Ha! Ha! Yea, everyone has to start somewhere. B-)
Thats me
How tall are you because i am 5'1 and looking for that bike it looks good btw
Ark074444 youtube Daniel was about 5’ 3” at the time, so at 5’ 1” You would do fine.
And it’s got plenty of power, his father is 6’.
Does this bike fit a 5'3 female?
Ardnekz Sure, perfect size for you. It’s got plenty of power for its size, so I thing it’s a great all around bike.
How old is Daniel
He’ll be 16 in about a month.
Is it a L or a G?
I believe it was an L.
how old is he
15 in about two months.
Good for first time
I thought so, he was kind of mad at himself for not being able to do it perfectly the first shot out.
So cute
Colton Benavides Yup, that he was, now three years later hes kinda grown out of it. Hes ready for a bigger bike.
If if it was a 2008 I had the same bike
Yup, same year. So far he really loves it. Lots of rain lately, so not much time to ride.
oh and it did not die it stalled
great kid man
Ha! Ha! Yea, we’re gonna keep him! ;-)
Ini di negara mana ya?
USA
Bellissimo
Ur dads a champ
dad is joe moto
I HAVE TO WAIT FOR MY DAD COMES HOME
'
Yea, its always good to have someone there when you are trying out a new bike. Does your dad ride?
It took my a day to use the clutch OK
Not bad, I've know people that took months, and still sucked at it. Its a good skill to have.
Poor kid has to listen to daddy
DERP
ima need you all to smash that like button and spam up gg in the comments
I uh, have absolutely no idea what you just said. But Thanks?
Thanks for the reply. It really helps me out, knowing someone cares.
I wish I had had a brother to ride with, so you do have that going for you.
That is true, He won't leave me. I really appreciate the replies, it really means a lot to me that someone cares enough.
I got my first bike when I was 14 and it was a klx125...
These bikes are sooo slow, but with technique and skill you can keep up with many faster bikes
MxForever yup, I think he's going to be really happy with it.
Yeah, I just came off of one and moved up to a big bike. But it was a great bike and nearly indistructable
Yea, I think he'll get a few years out of it.
The former owner is about 6' 4" now, and on to much bigger bikes as well. It happens.
JimsEquipmentShed it is good on tight trails easy to maneuver
c0uchsl0uch yup, that's exactly what we were looking for, he not racing or anything, just out riding and having fun.
and its because the first time i rode a dirtbike i slamed full speed in to wall I'm ok
Yea, that happens to everyone when they first start off.
👁
Lucky kid my dad wasn’t shit..
I miss being a kid hahaha
Me too, but thats not going to stop me from trying his bike out, this can pull around old fat guys as well as kids. ;-)
+Snakepit Bytes don't we all! ;-)
Weak sauce get that kid a 230
I think he's headed in that direction.
That was a great bike when he was running it though.
Its pretty powerful for its size, and great as a step up from the Honda 70.
What hate is Daniel. I know if it is size for me
Farming Lad03 he's about 5' 4" right now, but his dad is 5' 11" and it pulled him around just fine. The clutch is baked, and we need a battery, so this wasn't the best light to show this bike in. It's been parked for about three years since the last owner out grew it. (He's over 6' tall now.....)
So cute
Yea, time flys though, he's taller than his Dad now, so the bike is heading off to a new owner soon.
