The House in the Cerulean Sea is FINALLY coming out in the UK a week on Monday and I can’t bloody wait! I don’t usually read fantasy but I think 2021 is going to be the year I dip my toe in with this and The Cemetery Boys. The Uwagba sounds incredible, ordered it. The Death of Vivek Oji was one of my absolute books of the year. Broke me. Their novel Pet is also AMAZING. Ooh and The Song of Achilles broke me too.

Yay! I’m so glad you enjoyed House in the Cerulean Sea! I also think we must have similar tastes in dystopian books because I didn’t enjoy Scythe as much as I expected. Starting Hunger Games later this year, so we’ll see how it goes.

This is one of my favourite videos of yours!! I loved last year's one and I was thrilled when you posted this one!! I loved the House in the Cerulean Sea too. I can't wait to read The Midnight Library.
Your videos are always so well put together and enjoyable to watch. Love that you highlighted some smaller booktubers like the Loc'd Booktician. I'm a new booktuber so it's great to see. 🖤
I’m so glad you read Vivek Oji! Not enough people have read the book. I really liked how the author used some of the side characters (like the market people) to tell the story of Vivek. It was interesting to step outside of the main characters’ perspective and read a stranger’s interpretation of events that day in the market. I don’t think I read another book for like a week because my heart was broken. My mind was like: “You knew Vivek was going to die since page 1. Why are you so heartbroken?” My heart was like “BECAUSE I DIDN’T KNOW VIVEK THEN!!!” 🤣🤣🤣
i'm sorry if i don't make sense ahaha and i hope that you don't mind this being too long but i am genuinely excited about the fact that you liked "the song of achilles" way more than you initially thought you would. what was really interesting to hear as you were voicing out your thoughts about the book is that it gave me more perspective on how someone who never read the story of achilles or found much interest in greek mythology as a whole would react to this retelling. you commented that there's this trend where m|m romances written by women seem to be very popular and you are actually right about that, i think. in the case with "the song of achilles", what made this retelling evoke such strong emotions from readers, i believe, was that besides some of us knowing the original tale, a lot of us felt validated by madeline miller's portrayal of achilles & patroclus' relationship, one that scholars for centuries and centuries have brushed away as just simply a "friendship", or having them portrayed in such films as "Troy" (2004) where they were cousins. despite the fact that there's so much hidden details beneath the original text of the Iliad that suggest there was more to achilles & patroclus than just simply being "really close friends", this argument of what their relationship truly meant exhausted the lot of us and so miller's writing, her knowledge of their story and then having written this in patroclus's pov, even after his death, it all goes to show how much more thought stories like achilles deserve to be given. there's so many posts and small analyses i've read of the importance of "the song of achilles" but hopefully this comment gives even the smallest bit of clarity.
I am SO excited for this! I've also been reading some of booktube's favorite books of 2020 (including yours) though I chose mine completely based on booktubers I watch most plus one I'd never watched before, instead of trying to match up books we both loved, because I'm trying to read outside my comfort zone more this year. But watching you go through all these videos and tally the books you had in common really makes me wish I had done that too! Maybe I'll have to do a round two. So many great books in your final list... can't wait to see what you thought of them all! Especially Scythe. I hope you liked it enough to go on with the series, because Scythe was good but Thunderhead was AWESOME. (ETA: that didn’t age well.)
Kayla, you're the best. Seriously. I loved this so much. I'm so glad you loved a lot of these books and especially that you read The song of Achilles, loved that one.
I AM SO HAPPY THAT YOU ARE READING SCYTHE! I'm reading it with my 8th grade students right now & they're obsessed. So glad you sorta enjoyed it. I literally watched this whole vlog just to see you finally read Scythe lol.

Hi Kayla!! I am so glad to have found your channel! I finishes The Other People and now I'm reading the Southern Book Club s Guide to Slaying Vampires!!! My next read which i am excited for is The House in Tne Cerulean Sea!
i was so excited to hear what you think of the song of achilles because i think the reveals at the end would shock you since you know nothing about the illiad edit: i didnt cry reading the song of achilles either, though i rated it a 5 because it impacted me so much in other ways. i also agree that i wanted more reasoning for why they were together.

This was so fun! The Midnight Library was my only 5-star read in January. I cannot wait to read The House in the Cerulean Sea - I am reading it as the group read for the February round of the Buzzwordathon.
The Strange Case of the Alchemist's Daughter sounds like it will be my thing and I didn't know it existed before this video. I'm so excited to read it now!!
I knew you would give five stars to The Death of Vivek Oji. The ending shattered me! I'm hoping to read their YA novel Pet in February. I've heard so many great things!
What a wonderful video! This helped introduce me to new book tubers I might like in addition to some new books I’ve added to my TBR. I also gave The Midnight Library 4.5 stars and am now really looking forward to reading The House in the Cerulean Sea and The Strange Case of the Alchemist’s Daughter. Thank you!
Felt exactly like you did going into Song of Achilles but ended up loving it. Also like you, I wanted more of the key relationship. Check Madeline Miller’s list of books- there’s another one called Athena(?) that I think you will also like. I am sorry you didn’t like Scythe, but I have had a real thing for Neal Shusterman since Unwind. I am totally going to pick up several of these books, so thank you for doing this!
Always love your reading vlogs and experiments but I especially loved how you incorporated other people's videos and contents in this :) I've also been reading booktubers' favorite books of 2020 for a video but I just picked the books that came up the most in all the videos that I watched of people who have similar tastes to me (those are most of the people I follow anyway), it's been really fun so far 😊 (The House in the Cerulean Sea is only one I have to read but I haven't gotten to it, I'm excited tho!) I also gave 4 stars to The Song of Achilles actually, I really appreciated a lot about it and the characters have stayed with me but I also wanted a bit more from it, I'm very curious to read Circe tho!
I think I've only read The Midnight Library and I gave up on Scythe halfway through. I think your reading taste is just so different to mine but love your videos as I get introduced to books I wouldn't find in any other way. Really interesting in the house on the cerulean sea now. I've also been interested in reading more non-fiction so will need to add 21 things you may not know about the Indian act. Hope you have a great 2021 reading year

I am sorry you didn’t like Scythe, but I have had a real thing for Neal Shusterman since Unwind. I am totally going to pick up several of these books, so thank you for doing this!
Always love your reading vlogs and experiments but I especially loved how you incorporated other people's videos and contents in this :) I've also been reading booktubers' favorite books of 2020 for a video but I just picked the books that came up the most in all the videos that I watched of people who have similar tastes to me (those are most of the people I follow anyway), it's been really fun so far 😊 (The House in the Cerulean Sea is only one I have to read but I haven't gotten to it, I'm excited tho!)
I also gave 4 stars to The Song of Achilles actually, I really appreciated a lot about it and the characters have stayed with me but I also wanted a bit more from it, I'm very curious to read Circe tho!
The house of cerulean sea was one of my fav books of 2020, glad you loved it too. It's all in the feels!!
I love your long videos, it makes me feel connected to you and your book experiences and I always take book recommendations from you. So Thanks 😊
Hope you have a great 2021 reading year
I have needed this! I am in such a reading slump and your videos always help me get back into reading!
The anxiety I felt when you said you were reading Song of Achilles. My favorite book of all time but I don’t think it’s your typical vibe.
