Remember when Toyota and Honda made exciting cars? Peppridge farm remembers.
sharpemang what is with that joke?
sharpemang do you think the new Civic Type R isn't exiting?
So you think a Celica is more exciting than a GT86? A car that has more power, better chasis, better suspension and RWD. And what about the new Type R, isn't it fast enough for you?. The sound it's not the same but otherwise it's a really good car.
so do nissan mazda subaru dan mitsubishi
Macelo Guia . Well, it loses in a 0-100 but that's all. They MX-5 it's much softer both in terms of suspension and chasis. Have driven both? I go with the 86 without any doubt
That EK9 is a really nice looking hatch.
Agreed. Here's your 100th like
Watching this makes me want an Integra DC2 so much more.
I owned 3 Dc2's. Awesome car so much potential.
MOME914 God damn, 3? all Type Rs? I have the EK =D Honda Life!
Get a dc5! I love mine
Buy a gsr! they're super fun cars and relativity cheap if you can find one not beat on its whole life lol.
@@ryanwilkinson6999 DC5 is not as race focused, DC2 was made with the same spirit as the NSX was made
Scotty Kilmer needs to see this
Jose Salinas he’s recently been more inclined towards Honda’s. He’s already said that Honda makes better racing cars.
😂😂😂😂
Dont make me laugh to hard xD
Jose Salinas he hates the 2zzge
This video actually showed me that Celica's are good cars.
Keeping up with Type R's in the corner speaks volumes about Toyota's engineering.
agree
Justin Holloway that's lower end Toyota celicas too lol. I honestly don't think those celicas were wide valve twins. I may be wrong though. not to mention the soft suspension haha
Yeah, when the hondas were behind it... as soon as they jump in front, they're gone. Only good car toyota has is the supra. The popular ae86 is only good after you mod the hell out of it.
AlienNinjaPuppy Uh... MR2 turbo.
Toyota fan boys making all kinds of excuses 😂
In the end their all winners. Over 20 years later, you still see each of these model of cars on the street till this day!
very well said!
I would have liked to see a SW20 MR2 and maybe even a Prelude in this racce
@Alexander L neither are the Celicas or civic or intgra

Pretty cool race, impressed the celica did as well as it did. looks like they could have shifted the celica a few hundred rpm higher tho
Of course it's Tsuchiya on the track, so the S2000 is going to do well. But, man.... that is the spirit of the S2000. 7th to 2nd, and fastest overall lap time. Lovely.
Peter Zachos and dont forget it has 50HP more than the others but didnt get firt
Same engine class
True... but...
1) it's the AP1 version, without the LSD;
2) plus it's not just BHP by itself, it's power-to-weight ratio, and many of those cars are lighter (the Civic R, for example, is almost 300kg lighter);
3) plus he's starting in last place, on an incline and handicapped with a far-back position.
4) Plus, and I think it can't be overstated.. with all that in effect: 7th to 2nd, and fastest lap time.
Z1... that's exactly why they chose to handicap the S2K. No replacement for displacement.
Peter Zachos AP1s do have LSDs
i like honda and toyota! my last car was a 93 DA integra that i loved and now i have a 2000 celica gts which is even more fun. but i love pretty much all japanese cars i mean. look at nissan. well, i like their 90s and early 2000s more than their current cars but they are incredible
すげぇVTEC積んだホンダ3車がトップ3独占、、

respecting Toyota and everything, but this battles shows who's the boss.
even if the DC2 or the EK9 or the AP1 were slower, just LISTEN to that SOUND. Damn, Honda knows how to make people drool over engines.
well, since they used R versions of honda, one would think they'd be using T-sport toyotas. atleast they could have used the GTS celica, witch would have hold up much better. in this race they used one base celica and one 2zz engined celica.
and not having the mrs in this race is wierd because its statistics wise perfect for this comparison/race whatever.
and yes, Honda does make great motors :)
unfortunately, you can't use the verb in the present! instead of knows we should use knew! due to the present day constraints and the death of the NA, engine sounds are going silent. Only exotic makes, can have good engine sounds with turbos, because they can use exotic materials and million dollar exhausts, that the common brands cannot make/sell.
I really hope I am proven wrong with the next models, but for now it is the sad truth.
Ricardo Carvalho i agree, NA engines sound better than turboed engines, but i got to hear an straight piped audi s3 it is LOUD as hell! and its mostly engine sound not spooling sound.
pretty much all cars will sound well with a proper exhaust.
Yes, you're probably right, though RPM range make it less interesting. But hey..... I believe in engineering and its capabilities , so the future is promissing even with turbos.
thealeksanderh supra, MR2 turbo, Celica GT-S, LFA. While Honda have NSX, S2000, Civic Si. Honda is overrated.
Man, 3rd gear really screwed those Celicas over. If they had a shorter ratio 3rd gear, the drivers would stay with the bigger cam profile from 6k to redline while going uphill. Might have changed the outcome of the race
maximus9401 these look like lower trim Celicas. I think if you get a sport model it might have a shorter 3rd.
@@DeVoN420zz lol man honda won the race all top position excuses excuses
@@DeVoN420zz What mods do you have?
@@DeVoN420zz you really have to beat the shit out of a 2zz to use it right. Use every ounce of that power band from 6k all the way up to 8400. If you time it right, you can keep it in lift.
@@DeVoN420zz yep. I was specifically talking about the 00 Celica ecu 89666-20082. Its the one I use and I believe lift kicks in at 6k and rev limiter is ~8400. But yes, an ems4 would be wild
インテR速すぎました。ガンさんもうますぎでした。
Should've went all out toyota vs honda since they brought the S2000 too. Bring the Celica GT-4 and Supra for toyota and the NSX for Honda also.
I think nsx destoys every toyota car in the circuit, even not having turbo.
Where’s the mr2.???
Celica gt-four doesnt have the handling or hill climb as the 7th gen and the hp is comparable to the 1zz fe
@@blitzcourt5021 that's laughable. You're thinking of the 135hp gt.
The gt4 is turbocharged, awd, and makes like 250hp stock. 😂
Lmao the Supra is a boat..
In terms of FF cars, nobody makes better handling cars that honda. Mini Cooper, peugeot, alfa romeo, renault, and vw gti can be there but competition after competition the R's come on top and have been described as the best.
do you mean alfa romeo? XD
*Alfa*
Nah lol
red88alert The other videos on this channel disagree. The R's are formidable FFs when compared to other manufacturers.
+Johnny Salvattore you dont actually mean that hondas are good but till there...the europeans handle better...
love these videos!! i watch every single one
hey I watched this as a kid :3 still have the DVD
I love my DB7 Integra. I knew the B18C was a good engine but I wasn't expecting the Type R to do as good as it did. Awesome video.
i work in motorcycles 20 years, europeans and japanishes bikes. Honda is just the leader....i realy dont know how they make it to build so reliable engines!
Would be nice to see a modern take. To see where the new cars stack.
Unfortunately for this circuit the gearing on the Celica throws it right into the flat spot of the 2ZZ powerband (5000-6000rpm) in 3rd gear on the big uphill. It doesn't even accelerate on the uphill, just barely hanging on around 5200-5400 rpm.
yup. and at that point it has only 143bhp instead of 190bhp .. if only "lift" kicked in at 5,200 like VTEC does.
The GT-S has 180hp in the US and 190hp overseas. Mine is a 2000 year model and fuel cut off is at about 8400 rpms. If you rev to about 8200, you stay in the power band with no issues or dead spots. I've never raced a Type R, but I think it would be closer than this. The 2zz is dead at lower rpms. Not much there. It's happy above 6000 rpms and rewards you if you drive it right. Also has a very restrictive exhaust from the factory which doesn't help. Mine is at 240,000 miles on original engine with nothing but suspension, intake, and exhaust. Burns no oil and has no issues at all. VVTLI still pulls hard and it corners well.
If that were the case, they coulda downshifted, got into lift, burned through 2nd, and when they got nack to 3rd, they'd have been in lift. Dude doesn't know how to drive. Lol
Kolton McCallister heeyyyyyy. Whats up. N yea. He shoulda stayed in 2nd and bounced the redline and then hit 3rd and demand that the car eat lift. Lol
This looks kinda fishy. Do you realy think that even at 5500 rpm without lift engaged the Celica cannot accelerate up that hill? And it's realy strange that every time the celica comes up the hill it gets stuck at 5500 rpm just before lift. Kind of a big coincident. I dunno but this seems realy fishy to me.

That shift at 10:22 !
The thumbnail is just pure gold.
Thats one thing I always tell People about my celica, what I lacks in grunt it makes up for in cornering.
Especially in the real world driving on public roads. On twisty roads there's not many similar level cars that can keep up.

these are awesome !
I think an mr2 body with a k series engine is an absolute beauty and beast. These two should make a car one day.
The integ R is always leading in the race in every miroshis's video
HONDA ❤️
Wouldn’t expect anything less from a integra R great car great engineering
wow it's so beautiful to see these cars together racing
reminds me of gran turismo psone :D
I believe RUclips recommend this because I own nothing but 90's era Honda's! And I can confirm the hills in a Honda is where u pull away!
この頃のホンダは熱かった…
I may get flamed but i really think that gen celica shouldve got a gt-four option or have been used in rally. A H22a swap would be nice in that gen celica with better gear ratios
i cant believe miroshi has tons of these street cars races * o * ihuuuuuu
Love both that's why I have a 2000 Celica GTS and an AP1 s2000
If the silver celica driver shifted at 8400 going uphill instead of 8k.. He would have landed in lift instead of 5700rpm
これはいい!
Awesome Video
I like these translation videos!!
Love this "gran turismo" replay :D
I used to have one of these celicas. The ratios are stuffed, it is difficult to consistently stay in Lift(Vtec), especially on an incline, so you bog badly into 3rd because you land outside that power band. Shame because it was a brillant car. My very good friend who had a Type R would always get me buy half a car because it just wouldn't shift like the R. I'd land 3rd at about 5500 which is useless.
Es un coche de niñas el celica
How steep is that hill that the celicas can't accelerate on? I have a celica and while it's main downfall is definitely the longer gearing, high lift engagement and narrow powerband, IDK how they are getting the car to just straight up bog like that at 5500rpm in 3rd unless that hill is near vertical...
Love all these cars, cool race
Celica shifts at 7900 and hondas be revving out to 9k. Man, rev that celica to redline! Lift didn't seem to be engaging, either.
This race seems fishy

What's that? The toyota that wanted the power of Subaru or the Subaru that wanted the reliability of a toy?
Why 2 celicas and altezza though? I think it would be nice for an mr2 to be there instead
Keeping the 2zz in optimum power is tricky in those cars, hats off to the drivers tho!
この時代に生まれたかった...。
エンジンの差がはっきり出てますね。セリカのエンジンも悪くないんだけどね。これだけはコンセプトの違いだから仕方がない。
Gan-San and the DC2 are a perfect match.
I have the integra dc civic ek and the is3000 also looking for the 97 celica love honda toyota cars amazing cars!!
As a Matrix XRS owner, I do see how the GTS will lose uphill.. My gear ratios are HUGE on the Matrix since its on 17's stock.. 1st gear is 40mph, 2nd is 65mph and 3rd gear is good for 90mph+. Great for highway cruising and pulls, but on a race track it involves a lot of shifting between 2nd and 3rd gear to keep it in lift.
Honda killin it =P
problem is that the celicas need to clutch kick a couple times to keep the revs up in the next gear. thats why revs drop. or keep your foot on the gas double clutch quick. clutch in. to nuetral. the clutch again. gear in. with gas still to the floor. requires quickness and precise shifting or your grinding gears...
Honda makes a better engine assembly but also seems to have a better understanding of suspension set ups. Both Brands i say are very close.
i really feel ashamed as s honda guy to read all this hate against toyota. 😅
Sebastian Lange especially some of the people who have lack of understanding of the two companies or who they wanted to appeal to in their marketing. this video is track vs commerce more so than track vs track. but people are gonna say what they wanna say I guess lol
I have owned both over the year's and I love both

Both are good brand. Both produce good automotive.

DeVoNmotorsports shut the fuck up toyota fanboy
I love Dc2♡♡♡
Oh hell yeah, at the beginning i bet for the Integra and the EK9 and they really finished on the top. The S2000 passed the EK9 and finished 2nd, but at least the Civic finished 3th with is also the top. Right?
...Right?
WOW I WAS SUPER IMPRESSED!!!!!!
Great battle! Gan-San is like 30 car lengths lead and still running it to the limiter in each gear, Altezza's did pretty well I think considering the weight disadvantage, shame the Celica 3rd gear upshift wasn't in the Big Cam or they'd have been right there with the civic and integra I think
Celica is miles off the integras\Civics. it would take alot more than just a slight gear ratio change to catch them.
Probably a massive weight reduction like the ITR, strip out those creature comforts of any kind, all insulation and you're there!
The weight difference isnt that big. There is a big list of things Honda changed on the ITR compared to the normal integra that make it a faster better handling machine.
No doubt! it was the big shooter of the day, but wow 2400lbs makes a huge difference, in all these late 90's battles it keeps up a lot with super late braking and superb acceleration I think in do no small part to the ultra lightweight of the car
got to bounce a celica off the rev limiter up-hill to stay competative
simple toyota makes people movers and honda makes race cars for road
In this race yes but you have to remember this is a balanced race HP wise except the AP1, all Toyota's true sports cars are beyond the limits of the DC2 and EK example: SW11, SW20, ST185, ST205 & JZA80. I am in no way a hater of Honda and in fact have a soft spot for them but there are just very few examples of a good balanced race when it comes to JDM cars unless your talking late model EVO/STI battles.
that guy can't fucking drive a celica for shit, he can't even stay in the vvt-li for fucks sake hahaha.
lol

Ehem.. GT500, biggest jepanese racing series. toyota/lexus doing far better than honda since ever.
and F1? i cant even remember the last time honda been leading there.
toyota had 7 years, eventually doing as good as, if not better than honda the little time they were in (and thats going from not having an F1 team ever) witch honda has always had.
Also Le Mans, ever heard of that? ofcourse you have, secong biggest race series in the world. toyota doing far better than honda.
Hondas are good, but not good enough for you to go around saying toyota sucks. witch is what it seems like you're trying to portray.

This video makes me miss my Integra 😥🏎💨
The extra weight of the Altezza really shows. Same hp as the Type R but an extra 400lbs
also the stock suspension is so fkn soft, its alright in tight corners but man the body roll in high-medium speed is shocking at times. very sharp front end.
インテグラ速すぎだろwwwww
Celica gear ratios are killing it. Rpms dropping too much each shift
Glad the Hondas all did the best.
are these standard road cars or have they got some mods done to go on track? if standard then thats amazing.
apart from one of the Altezzas they're all stock
The use a type r integra and not a TRD M celiaca... Bit odd?
+Duffyv2 There's another video on this channel where they use the TRD M Celica against the Type R and it still loses.
the JDM celica ss is the same as the usdm TRD celica dude, actually the ss is a bit better
Duffyv2 it would still loose lol

Are you working on more translated videos to upload? I really hope so
Dee Jay I got more videos, they will be uploaded eventually. Right now I have other projects in progress that need my attention.
VTEC Revs the heart :) Honda All the way
I know these guys are pro's and I love BMi videos have been watching them since I found out about them in the early 2000's.
But Akihiko didn't know how to drive that celica. On these engine's you must kiss the rev limiter at around 8300 rpm's for a fraction of a second so the next gear stays above 6000 rpm's where the "Lift" point is at or the small to large cam lobe change over is. (This is toyota's "v-tec")
@ 7:20 you can see he doesn't even rev it to 8,000 rpm's and the next shift drops below 6000, you can even hear the engines tone change when it switches back to the small cam. So if he was changing gear like this every time of course he was going to have cars creep by him throughout the race.
But in his defense its known to be pretty difficult to stay in the 2zz's sweet spot above 6000 rpm's at all times. If you shift too late your bouncing of the limiter and loose speed if you shift too early you fall out of the big cam lobe and loose speed. But if you get it right you get a strong pull in the next gear. It's fun when you get it right.
@Bezo Balo gt4 celica is not really in the same class as any of these, the mr2 is rubbish, ae86 is a dinosaur stop taking the piss, the supra again, more in a class above s2000 etc, but below nsx, so its not there. Chaser again not really much of a sports car
@Bezo Balo yeah tbh rubbish is a bit harsh for the gen 3, just looks so bad i would never even consider it haha. ae86 is cool, just too old its got a solid rear axle like cmon. supra isnt even a sports car, its more of a gt. nsx is the best car to come out of japan period. and dont even @ me saying the chaser is sportier than a civic lmao those things are boats
This video shows why I bough a DC-2 GSR in '96 - VTEC's rule!
Considering that honda threw in the s2k why didn't toyota throw in the chaser or the usd supra???
poor gearing kills the celicas. though in a straight line they are better than non-type R vtec engines. They should have compared these celicas to Si's its a much better comparison.
